Every single group that has tried to make stock only tf2 a thing has died because not many people knew about them. If Valve made their own version it would be immensely more popular.
I think that has everything to do with the fact that Valve has neglected the idea of making the Community itself easier to explore (i.e better server browser, tutorials/introductory information that points to community servers, etc..)
The default hud shoves the Server Browser into a corner and instead highlights the official servers. It's no wonder newer players sometimes never discover there are community driven servers.
I've only seen contracts from last year's Halloween. The ones I had seemed to boil down to "play on a particular map and focus on something other then the objective."
Of course there was no need to actually focus on it since it was things I'd be doing anyway, but I imagine some people would put a higher priority on completing a contract than trying to win.
Are regular contracts better?

Yeah, regular contracts encourage you to use different weapons and playstyles. There is the occasional "map" contract encouraging you to play on the new maps with the current campaign, but most of them are focused around getting you to play differently, which I personally found pretty fun. In fact, Gun Mettle got me to start playing stock-with-Zatoichi Demoman, which is still my favorite way to play that class.
I had barely touched Soldier or Spy until Tough Break contracts, they were fun

99% of the time yes. I've had fun completing most of my contracts ever since Gun Mettle. The only ones that were completely boring were the ""Open contracts"", where the only thing you had to do was play the game (score 100 points on the scoreboard basically). Nothing unique or interesting to do rather then just playing the game like you usually do.

I don't know about that, all I remember is "get 10 headshots as sniper"

although to be honest I only did the first campaign event, completely skipped the second one due to how bad the first one was
WEBSITE REDIRECTED TO CSGO
WE AN ESPORT NOW BOYS
my page monitor just went off and now teamfortress.com is redirecting to the CS blog???
Why does the TF2 blog go to CSGO...
Page monitor went off.
teamfortress.com is now the CS:GO blog
Edit: Back to normal
:snip:
h-happening???
[editline]15th September 2017[/editline]
fixed and it's nothing, move along
situation "normal"
glad to see they're finally merging tf2 in to csgo, long time coming
Welcome to the Pyro Update! We've fixed the problems by getting rid of Pyro, alongside the rest of Team Fortress 2 altogether.
The TF2 blog is back now though. How the hell did they accidentally make it redirect to the CS:GO one???
And it's back, for a minute TF2 was deleted from history.
glad to see they're finally merging tf2 in to csgo, long time coming
your witty remark is too late, they already fixed it
also what the fuck did they even do to make that happen????
real talk, that's the weirdest thing i've ever seen in terms of team fortress 2 pre-update shenanigans
I'd be down for TF:GO. That game has a lot of modern QoL and gameplay features that TF2 is in desperate need of.
i demand an explanation valve
Yeah, what did happen? What were they even messing with? The domain?
also what the fuck did they even do to make that happen????
we'll find out just as soon as jill finishes counting the licks needed to get to the tootsie roll center of his tootsie pop
i demand an explanation valve
I bet an explanation would be the equivalent of that "We're sorry" joke on South Park.
csgo blog had alot of database problems during the last hours so there's your explanation

if it's that's all it is I'm gonna be sad
when my page monitor went off I was like "huh what is that" because I'm not used to the notification noise
then I was like OH SHIT THE PAGE MONITOR IT'S HAPPENING
then I got really confused because I kept getting redirected to CSGO
and then disappointed when it went back to normal
for a precious few seconds I thought the madmen were actually doing something with the update :(
Did the CSGO domain reroute to TF2? That'd have been extra funny.
Did the CSGO domain reroute to TF2? That'd have been extra funny.
if it did nobody wouldve gotten to the csgo blog
I feel we all (myself included) see these weird things happening and assume valve is working 3 steps ahead to perfectly tease the new update in a weird unorthodox way, but really they just are monkeys who occassionally press buttons.

Anybody who sees this as anything other than a technical issue they fixed in a matter of minutes is deluding themselves

Well clearly some people felt something was happening. When you don't give a dog any food, it's going to start trying to eat rocks.
