biggest problem with ad-hoc is stream snipers and otherwise harassing players
I've always thought this would work well as a Steam-side setting. One setting would blacklist everyone from being able to see what server IP you're connected to via Steam profile (aka not showing the Join Game and Watch Stream buttons). Another setting would do the same, but blacklist everyone but friends from seeing that information. The last setting would allow everyone.
Of course, in-game this wouldn't actually work the same way; Steam broadcasts whatever server your friends are connected to if they're online regardless.
My only problem with ad-hoc connections was an aimbotting dude who harasses people in general. He basically made everyone on a server leave, so I left and he changed his name to "made ghosts ragequit" and joined the next server I joined. Kept doing it until I lured him onto a server my friends were on who promptly Vaccinator-pocket destroyed him and made him leave on his own.

That would imply people stream tf2.
Hi hello as somebody who does not miss ad-hoc connections i'd like to say that I think they would be fine as long as steam had an option to disable the "join game" option from your profile
Funke is now playing Team Fortress 2. Click here to join.
Approximately seven seconds later
xXx_Joeboy13_xXx has joined the game

xXx_Joeboy13_xXx (TEAM): Hi Funke are you recording
Doop: WHAT IS YOUR VIDEO GOING TO BE ABOUT????????

Sounds pretty typical
It could all be avoided if he just changes his name to NOT FUNKE. Won't draw any suspicion.
I feel like the best solution would be to not allow all ad-hoc connections but allow you to invite friends to whatever server you're on.

It should be the same as your inventory and profile privacy. Allow anyone to join, allow only friends to join, or don't allow anyone to join.

Yeah the casual menu should have the option to toggle friends joining you and show a list of your friend's games and give the option to join a friend's game in progress and party up with them (assuming they're not in a party of 6 already).
There should be an option to disable ad hoc connections from your profile, along with a streamer option that obscures your name and all names in the server, replacing them with the normal bot names. They could then re enable ad hoc connections through the server browser and through friends who haven't opted out of letting people join them.
Everyone around my friendlist quitting TF2, It's a sad sight, I'm almost the only one left who still has slight hope in the game
I was watching a recent video from HiGPS and he suggested giving the spy a small buff to his disguises by showing the weapon reload animation anytime you're disguised and press the R key, not just when you reload your revolver. It's a small thing to help spies but I really like it, does anyone else think it would be a nice change for spy?

I don't think it'd make disguises much more effective but I'd take it.
[editline]16th September 2017[/editline]
The real problem is though, the knowledge of disguises reloading when you reload is already kinda niche, which on one hand helps, but on the other it's kinda shitty there's no way to know. If there was absolutely no feedback whatsoever, like you just press R and the disguise reloads without you getting anything, that's like borderline glitchy behavior. So I guess I'd rather they give a feedback on the disguise reloading first, make the little disguise portrait in the corner reload when you do, and make the reload sound that of your disguise.
I have a script that, when holding STRG and switching weapons as the spy, makes me switch weapons for my disguise aswell.
Means that I can walk around juggling weapons as a disguise which is often seen as regular behavior for people just running to the battlefield.
People usually suspect a spy when players are being statues, not switching weapons, not reloading, not shooting. The movement of just weapon switching is often enough for people to stop suspecting you.

I have weapon switch/last disguise bound to my shift key for easy access as spy (and for medic I have a medic radar script bound to shift).

Spy already gets this. You have to actually reload the weapon for it to work, though. e.g. tapping R with the knife out does nothing, tapping R with the revolver out while it has a full clip does nothing, tapping R while the revolver is missing at least one shot will make your disguise perform a reload animation.
It's counter intuitive, clunky and isn't written down anywhere. Works though.

His proposal is that anytime you press R while disguised and your disguise is holding a weapon that can be reloaded that your disguise performs the reload animation.

While they just straight out ripped the TF2 store description, they also included a link to Meet the Pyro.

They did this with all their other games too.

Are companies legally allowed to make positive reviews for their own content?
Are companies legally allowed to make positive reviews for their own content?
Of course they are. Why wouldn't they?
A "positive review of their own content" is the same thing as a TV ad going "Our product is amazing!"
They can leave positive reviews for their own content, but if they don't disclose that they're the ones who made the content, and lead people to believe that they're a random consumer, that's ethically shit and probably illegal.

I wasn't saying that Valve was actually doing this, I was just outlining a situation where a company leaving positive reviews for their own content would be really bad, in response to Riki's question about whether positive reviews for your own content is illegal.
Don't be stupid for the sake of being stupid.
No need to be a dick.
okay so i opened up my inventory to show a friend a thing i got just now and steam kind of broke

that's not my avatar and i also don't think that's the icon for tf2
you thought it was the pyro update, but it was me, dio
it's the last video trailer thing that came out for this game which wasn't directly tied to a specific update
Yeah, true, but wouldn't it be a little more convenient to just link to the TF2 "Meet The..." playlist they already have on the official VALVe channel so people would find all of the videos in one place?
"Constantly updated" :quotes:
Hey now, other game companies have totally misled their consumers before, what makes this any different?
