I pray the update brings a revamp to the MvM missions/tours system. Something like you choose to play and get put in some random mission. A tour would be finishing 4 missions.
I've always thought a "randomized segment"-based MvM system would work well. Currently MvM waves work with "sub-waves" and those sub-waves must be defeated before the next arrives. Empire Escalation's first wave starts out with an Armored Sandman Scout and 6 gate bots, followed by a second Armored Sandman Scout, which is then followed by a gate bot Pyro boss healed by Medics. Could you imagine if the Armored Sandman Scouts could be randomly replaced by a hoard of Air Strike Soldiers, or maybe a boss Demoknight? Maybe the gate bot Pyro boss instead becomes a slightly-less-obscene Deflector Heavy, or maybe a Giant Blast Soldier. Although, I could see this working better as an "expert" tour with new MvM rewards. You'd see the randomized wave before the round starts, of course. Nobody could really fully plan around something that changes every time, which I think would be really neat. People would have to study the HUD overview of the upcoming wave and assess what they should do.
The only thing you find when you get the TF2 Funko Pops is a disappointing feeling knowing you spent money on buying Funko Pops.
I'd much rather have a funke pop
i'll pop you right now if you don't stop
TF2 turned 10 years for me couple of hours ago. Started playing since beta. Do you think Valve will mark that milestone up for some update?
i'll pop you right now if you don't stop
dont get in a funke over a few vinyl toys
TF2 turned 10 years for me couple of hours ago. Started playing since beta. Not to sound like a broken record, but after a night of Casual, I am cracked in half. They could release and update that consisted of: * Nerfed the cock-smoking, sheep-raping Dead Ringer. * Literally nothing else. * Seriously, didn't even look at the localization files. ...and I'd be pleased.
How many people have already foolishly sacrified themselves under the Banhammer?
Today is 10 years since I first launched TF2. It's been a long time since then. TF2 has changed a lot, and so have I, but I figured I would just make a little post to say thanks for keeping the TF2 scene alive (even if it is just waiting for an update). Growing up, I was a part of several communities in CS and TF2. The one I ended up sticking with was Facepunch, and FPUK because of how much I enjoyed the people and playing the game with them. I haven't had a proper good TF2 session in a long time, but I hope the update is soon for you lots because I'll probably be sitting down Saturday evening to have a longer play session and see if the game still has the old magic. I'll let you all get back to complaining about the lack of updates :~)
I think I have found the date for major update for TF2: http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=440 It should be written in article called "Were in an FPS golden age". It should be written there like this "Expect a major update to Team Fortress 2 when it turns 10 on October 10."
How much would it shake up TF2 to have every gameplay-effecting weapon available from the start? Would such an event severely damage TF2's economy? Would the health of the game overall increase as a result? few bonus rounds for fun: round 1: all pre-existing tradeable weapons become vintage round 2: achievement weapons prior to this update become vintage and tradeable round 3: newly-released weapons can only be crafted or purchased for 1 week after release. feel free to mix and match conditions interested to hear any and all answers, but especially from folks like Geel

Would the health of the game overall increase as a result?
Weapons and metal from them are practically worthless to the common man, and who gives as shit about what impact this would have on people like Geel, they're such a small minority. Besides he's a businessman, he could find another way to exploit the market. If anything this could be a great opportunity for him, shifting markets are the most exploitable. From a non-economical standpoint, people who racked up a ton of hours in the game (most of us here) already have most weapons we need if not all of them, so the change wouldn't really be felt. F2Ps would feel the change the most. With their limited backpacks, they can't hold on to all weapons at once, so if they had all the weapons from the start it'd be like christmas. A possible downside would be that they'd be robbed of the euphoric feeling of finding a cool new weapon from a drop, especially if it's one they died to a lot of times and looked forward to getting. Instead they'd have the whole complexity of the game dropped on them and the amount of options could be overwhelming. To F2Ps it'd be more of a sideways step if anything, to us veterans it'd be a barely perceptible change, and everyone else isn't really worth considering. So yeah.
As amazing of a 10th anniversary celebration the Pyro/Jungle update would be for TF2 Valve just doesn't seem to care about anniversaries that much.
Honestly, getting the update out before the anniversary would be even more cool. Bonus points if it's really good. Imagine a blog post coming out in the anniversary day and talking how good TF2 after 10 years became and how it's still going strong.
So who is optimistic about this week ?
How much would it shake up TF2 to have every gameplay-effecting weapon available from the start? Would such an event severely damage TF2's economy? I think the current weapon system is one of the things that's kinda unfair to new players since they can't really control what weapon drops they get, so they either need to hope to get the weapon they want, trade for it or buy it. Even though we know Valve doesn't design weapon drops to be better than stock (but sometimes it happens of course) a new player might look at all the weapons they don't have and think the game is pay 2 win. Only having weapon skins/taunts and cosmetics are buyable items feels a lot more fair. I think maybe having something like you unlock weapons as you get achievements for each class could potentially work. Add a bunch of new achievements for each class and achievement milestones. Maybe even let players decide what weapon they want to unlock when they get a milestone. Maybe have every weapon unlocked for a class within 10 hours or so playtime for that class on average. Maybe also have weapons unlock with playtime as well if players aren't earning enough achievements. Of course many weapons in the game are community made and they get a cut of the sales from the Mann Co store so Valve may have to work out some kind of deal with the item creators depending on the terms of their contracts with the item creators. Now I don't know how removing metal from the economy would affect it. Metal is free currency anyway and I bet Valve doesn't exactly love free currency constantly entering the economy, but TF2 was the first in game economy they made and they probably didn't exactly know what they were doing.
Where did she/he write/say that? In the same article, or where?
It's safe to assume it was a guess. Don't believe it too much or you will set yourself up for disappointment. Thought you would know better after nine six.
Perhaps, since they're going for a "Choose your Adventure" contract system, there could be easier contracts aimed towards newer players that reward them with a unique weapon, while harder ones will be available for more experienced players, which give better rewards.

Imagine a blog post coming out in the anniversary day and talking how good TF2 after 10 years became and how it's still going strong.
I imagine they'll make a blog post like that even if the update isn't released. They'll just add a little note at the bottom of the post saying "The team is still working hard on the pyro update! We don't have a date that we can tell you yet, but we also couldnt think of way to end this sentence. See you next year!"

Nothing to see, besides speculation.
I really hope the TF Team wont delay the Update for a few extra weeks just because it's close to the Anniversary. A re-release of the medals would be cute and romantic enough for me.
