There is absolutely no way of telling that apart from gut feeling - and the only info we got are vague hints at it being "soon"
You made this statement while conveniently cropping out the part of my quote which explains why. I can't even with you anymore. They're not going to drop it in the middle of ToTH. It needs it's own patch for the medals, and its a major community event. Sure they've interrupted LANs in the past, but this is something different. Its also the (largest?) TF2 update in (ever?). Everything points to them picking a week where nothing is happening community wise for a hype post then splash page.
Its also the (largest?) TF2 update in (ever?). If anything, wouldn't a great new update for TF2 increase TOTH's audience? TOTH isn't a competitive LAN or anything, it's just a community charity event.
Id even go as far to say that releasing the update might even get more people watching (and donating to) the TOTH.
Id even go as far to say that releasing the update might even get more people watching (and donating to) the TOTH.
You see that would make sense. But that isn't how valve works, as we've observed. Though I wish they would.
Id even go as far to say that releasing the update might even get more people watching (and donating to) the TOTH.
that's...basically what I just said...
What's up with the upper-right box though? Like yes it's very clear Valve put way too much on their plate for the update, but it's not like they can just up and release it at any point now that they're nearing the end of their work on it. Like, what if the artpass on a map is 4/5 of the way done? You can't just ship a map with dev textures on one of the control points. Or like, you wouldn't want to ship untested weapon changes and end up with stuff like the enforcer, or launch an update page that's half plaintext. The point is that the problem isn't one of Valve withholding content at the end of their development work, it's one of poor planning months and months ago. There's no simple fix now of "valve should just release whatever unfinished stuff they have now" because that would make for a garbage update.
The point of that box is not that valve could release it now, but is that if it would have problems at launch there would be morons who would defend it by stating that it was "rushed" like MvM. And that box is definetly checked in my opinion. Yeah, while i'm at it: [t]https://i.imgur.com/mkn8qz6.png[/t] so yea, bingo
To this day people still overhype the pyro update like they did with EOTL. i feel sorry for those who expect it to be god's gift to virtual content.
To this day people still overhype the pyro update like they did with EOTL. i feel sorry for those who expect it to be god's gift to virtual content.
To be fair, with all we've been promised, the hype is warranted. With EOTL it was pure speculation with what was coming, with the only part that was promised that wasn't added was [DEL]Coldfront[/DEL] Snowplow. Maybe the update won't be worth the wait, but I'm really hoping that the extra time truly allows good balance changes, bug fixes, and general QoL fixes. edit: thanks chandler
the only part that was promised that wasn't added was Coldfront.
you mean snowplow, and even then i dont think it was promised
At this point I just want something positive to inject new life into the game. It really feels like player count and interest has been diminishing lately, I barely find any decent casual matches now and a couple of my faved servers have become abandoned.

It really feels like player count and interest has been diminishing lately, I barely find any decent casual matches now and a couple of my faved servers have become abandoned.
Playercount hasn't changed much, it's just that casual mode doesn't ever disband games or rebalance teams so servers get depleted and unbalanced, causing more people to leave the match and re-queue, causing servers to empty out. Basically casual mode is still broken after a year and a half. And of course community servers are dead because they've been dying ever since QP/Casual sent all the players to official servers.
To be fair, with all we've been promised, the hype is warranted.
thats your problem right there. and everyone else for what it matters: you have not been warranted anything - let alone from valve. if the past months have proven anything is that valve will never set deadlines to themselves for the sole reason that if they feel like delaying the update for another whole year you bet they will do so. you think and prefer to think valve owes you new content, but the reality is that thye not. theis over-hyping frenzy has turned everyone into such an overzealous, content-deprived individual that even if the update launched tomorrow no-one would be pleased at all and people will go lenghts to say that "tf2 is dead" etc. I can understand the frustration of those who are in dire need to feel this game and play it like it was 2007-2011 all over again, but the truth is that we're far from that. tf2 has lived way past its lifetime and has been pused to above and beyond - to the point where it became a testament of the glory of those who spent 9 years developing and crafting it. even with the catastrophe that MM is, the core game is as solid as it was 10 years ago, sans the changes experienced in the past.
I'm gonna go with a 2 day starting tomorrow. 3 days haven't been a thing since 2012 so there's no reason to expect one other than the rumored size of the update. FYI Meet Your Match was intended to be a 3 day update (serious, no longer have the picture confirming it but take my word for it) but ended up only being 2 days.

Some us want this update because the game isn't balanced, and a balanced game is a fun game. Crit-a-Cola isn't fun (for anyone that isn't using it). And you can thank those same hard-working developers for letting that disease fester for four years; oh, and let us not forget six years for the Atomizer, and nine for the Sandman! Yes, I fully believe the team should be accountable for mistakes they've neglected for years.
I think I just had a TF2 update dream. I was awake when I experienced though, so I guess that makes it a vision? I don't know. One of the bigger things in the update was the addition of a taunt to every weapon that didn't already have one (/r/TF2 was going ape shit over the new Jarate taunt), as well as a new all-class partner taunt where you could hug another player. On day one, however, it was broken, so no matter what classes were hugging, every voice line said by the participants was the Engineer saying "Give me a hug, partner!".
Balancing changes should have never been update content.
They claim that the process is so time-consuming that it benefits from being included in significant updates. I'm not entirely sure I buy that, but then again, they are limited on resources--because their company culture is awful and anti-consumer.
And of course community servers are dead because they've been dying ever since QP/Casual sent all the players to official servers.
To prepare for the F2P update, I can see why they transitioned to official servers. Official servers can support any population boom and guides new players into The Team Fortress 2 Experience™. The community server browser is a minefield of bad initial impressions. Excess file downloads, donator 'perks', malicious servers, non-gameplay servers, autoplaying ads -- anything that's going to leave a sour taste any player's mouth. This isn't what The TF2 Experience™ should be. But to me, a solid community server is The TF2 Experience™. Pubs make an ideal social place to make friends, with the game being a great platform for it. So here's the question: is it possible to set something up where bad experience servers won't happen, and support the good experience servers? It'd need to be a server that can be trusted to handle new players and get item drops. So far I've only come up with an 'official community server': a server hosted by Valve, but rented and run by the community. At minimum, server variables could be adjusted, moderators could be appointed to police the server, and map rotations could include workshop maps.
Man, if this update is taking this long, I wonder how long the next one will take... In all seriousness though, I think the TF team has a flawed development mindset. They need to start thinking like a small development team that pushes smaller, more frequent updates than huge updates once a year.
Another TF2 blog dream; they posted about changes they made to projectiles and focused on stickybombs. The blog title mentioned potatoes, for whatever reason.
Some type of memetic dream weapon is being controlled by someone who plays tf2, I also had a dream where the pyro could shoot rockets and that was the only change. It was pretty good.

I hope that they're adding quality of life things, like the grenade launcher reflecting the loaded grenades and the revolvers chamber moving. These things honestly make or break a game for me, it's like an itch you can't scratch when the ejection port doesn't open, or the characters not actually pulling the trigger when firing a gun. Stuff like this would make TF2 more of a modern looking game, since that's what they seem to be going for.
That had to be very boring When mr. Kojima gave me stuff that belongs to VR section (repeated missions with added challenges) i didn't rike it and dropped the game
You think it would be but I'm having a lot of fun now doing everything else without worrying about S ranks (Plus I have the Raiden suit now). As horrible as the plot (and pay2do things fast) was the gameplay is super fun, especially when you're an invisible super fast cyborg ninja driving a tank. Ok back to TF2, the problem I have with community servers is the only ones in Aus are 90% horrible trade/idle/24 hour 2fort garbage with a few custom gamemode servers (that are actually good imo) thrown in. The only "vanilla" servers are empty most of the time and it was like that even before meet your match, if anything mym has expanded the map pool for a lot of Aus TF2 players. I don't really see this situation changing after the update. Also I live in West Aus and all the servers are in the Eastern Coast :saddowns: I've never played with a ping under 60 for years now.
speaking as the local spy main mgsv is the most disappointing game in the series and mgs3 is still better
mgs3 is still better
Nah mate, MGS2 was the best one and if you disagree with me your wrong :)
