TF2 Competitive Beta began in January 2016 Meet Your Match came out in July 2016 We have waited longer for the Pyro update than we have for competitive matchmaking. Just something to remember.

The thing is TF2 has always been Valve's experimental baby. It birthed their idea of the entire steam market and the crate/key system. It would kind of make sense for them to test Source 2 with TF2 first.
It's autumn now. I cannot fathom what is taking so long for this update to release The only reasonable thing I can think of is a lack of manpower.

Didn't the devs say a long time ago that source 2 was guaranteed to never happen? Pretty sure they straight up said it was never going to be a plausible project to work on
I have zero faith that TF2 will ever be ported to Source 2. Ain't no way you're going to ever be getting me on that hype train until I see it actually released.
While I don't think they will port to source 2, it wouldn't surprise me if they optimized the game significantly by eating the spaghetti code in the source engine.
TF2 Competitive Beta began in January 2016 Meet Your Match came out in July 2016 We have waited longer for the Pyro update than we have for competitive matchmaking.
While I don't think they will port to source 2, it wouldn't surprise me if they optimized the game significantly by eating the spaghetti code in the source engine.
if they try to fix spaghetti they will just create a ton more problems. that's how huge exploits happen. That's what Jill means by "there's a crying source engine".
if they try to fix spaghetti they will just create a ton more problems. that's how huge exploits happen. That's what Jill means by "there's a crying source engine".
Then what option do they have other than porting to source 2?
Then what option do they have other than porting to source 2?
same as how it's always been done. keep going and ignore it.
Tip of the Hats just started :excited: https://www.twitch.tv/tipofthehats
Does anybody knows if Twitch subs counts towards donations?
Does anybody knows if Twitch subs counts towards donations?
yes they do [editline]22nd September 2017[/editline] I don't see source 2 being worked on now, they already have so much stuff to work on, throwing a new engine would delay stuff much more than what we already waited I don't want a source 2 port, it'd be a waste of effort somewhat, a lot of effort , if they're remaking the game on a new engine, that would be great, but that would need even more effort. the only way we get a new engine is, they get everyone at the company to a meeting, Jill stands on the table and does an emotional speech, gets everyone excited "and no we're porting this game to our new engine!, now who's with me!" *dead silence* and then they go back to work on VR
I think some of you guys are right, TF2 isn't getting a Source 2 port. Valve is going to greenlight TF2 as the first game on Source 3
I have major doubts for source 2, at this point I think it's more likely that they're just trying to get all the speghetti code straightened out and find ways to optimize the game in order to widen the playerbase so more people will be able to play this "biggest update in tf2 histoy", and we should recall Jill specifically complaining about tf2 basically riding the source engine on its last leg and being a complete mess to code and program due to years of not being optimized, and if I recall, the TF team has very few programmers so it'd make sense that they're taking a long while to do so
To port TF2 (a massive pile of spaghetti code) to Source2, the TF2 team would have to be 10x the size it is now, and all coders. Valve would need to hire at least 50 experienced game coders and get them up to speed on the complete clusterfuck that is the TF2 source. Vale doesn't hire people new to the industry. They only hire seasoned veterans because they don't have a system for training noobs. Valve actually have the financial resources to hire a small army of industry vets (probably just from TF2's profits, never mind anything else.) What they completely lack is the desire or will to do so. Why be arsed to do anything than what they are doing when they make hundreds of millions per year? I've said this before, the irony of TF2 is that it makes so much money that any other decent studio would lose their collective mind to have a game so profitable. Conversely, TF2 makes so little money compared to the rest of Valve's income that it is ultimately little more than a line on a spreadsheet (and an occasional testbed for half baked ideas.) Gaben is starting to get close to retirement age. I suspect in the next few years he'll open up a knife factory or a speed shop or maybe a yacht club and quietly step down from Valve. I don't think he's given too much thought to TF2 since he recorded the line "my favorite class is pie."

EDIT: Isn't he the reason TF2 gets no attention, why Valve doesn't hire dedicated TF2 programmers (or anyone for that matter), etc? All in the name of money?
The thought of Gabe Newell stepping down from Valve makes me irrationally excited.
You know what they say, policy comes from the top down. Without Gabe, the company may just make some pro-consumer strides.
I'm calling it, they are porting to Source 2, and the wait is just the porting. They will do some "It will never happen again because we will never port to a new engine again" post, and things will start to improve. There is just to much pointing to it, I'm starting work on a video with the evidence.
I don't think they will just move the main game client over to source 2 if they do port it, they'll probably be a long public beta of the new client before the main one is updated. It wouldn't shock me if moving the game over to steam datagram relay is giving them problems, making big changes to matchmaking functionality like that seems to give them problems in the past. Honesty you have a lot more access to the TF team than most of the the rest of us, maybe you should send Dave an email asking if he would comment on why the wait is taking so long.
In slightly better news, via redderp I learned that the F1Cheat 2017 devs have officially but the kibosh to their project. They shut down their site and their official Discord: F1 joins Lithium among the list of free TF2 cheats that have packed it in this year. The cynic in me (which is to say, all of me) imagines the devs got bored with the lack of updates and moved on to greener pastures. Unfortunately, the two big pay TF2 cheats (NullCore and Lmaobox) are both still active. The latter has been detected 3 or 4 times in the last year, but sadly the former is still undetected as of this writing.
Pyro confirmed human???? But for real, what if they'll show Pyro's face in the new Jungle Update?
My guess if they do finally reveal the pyro's face that it would also become an Elite Grade Cosmetic.
