The case for Source 2: Comments from Jill about the current engine: "The engine currently contains various workarounds for pathological driver cases, but ultimately the drivers in question simply do not operate on 1GB+ of textures in a 32bit process efficiently. The game will often hit the exhaustion limit having used less than half of virtual memory, with the rest being driver allocations. Ultimately, memory management improvements in the drivers, or a full 64bit port of the game, will likely be required to play on high texture quality settings for these cards." Could be used for a Source 2 beta in the future. Also, they've called content creators to finish their stuff for months now, could they be porting the community contributions as well? http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=30112 Some people might be skeptical of TF2 getting Source 2 before CSGO, but TF2 has the smaller playerbase and would be much less risky to test a multiplayer FPS on Source 2. Another reason why people might doubt the port is that the team is small. However, wouldn't Source 2 allow for greater productivity/less work in the future, making it quite worth the initial work? Finally, I find it strange that they didn't answer VNN's email question about Source 2, I feel like that would be a simple yes or no unless they wanted to surprise us, neato style.
This thread will end before the pyro update drops. :toxx:
a 2 month old account doing a toxx. whoa, high stakes.
I feel like a Source 2 port is a possibility based on some of the stuff Valve higher ups have said but probably not in the cards anytime soon. It probably makes sense to have all active in development projects on the same engine in a company like Valve so employees can more easily move between games. I wonder if maybe we could be getting a 64 bit port or conversion? Looking at steam stats it seems like only 4-5% of steam users are still on 32 bit OSs.
all tf assets are already ported. they have tools that do it auto
That tool includes maps too, allegedly.
They said "We're finishing up the update". Check one of VNN's videos on it, it's in an email from Dave Riller. They said this months ago.
Hmmmm.... One of these things doesn't line up with the other.
a 2 month old account doing a toxx. whoa, high stakes.
Why are you so rude all the time oh my god
tbh in this instance it's probably related to all the toxx stuff in this thread
tbh in this instance it's probably related to all the toxx stuff in this thread
even before the stupid toxxes, nearly every time metaru has posted in this thread was to act like kind of a dick
Some nights, I just feel like playing 2fort. Those are usually the best nights when you have people that are on the mic. You get to know each other as the teams prepare the defenses. You aren't just a face in the crowd for one round. I love those nights.
A month and a half at this point, they either lied, added completely new features between then and now, or have been playtesting the absolute crap out of it.
Or, yknow, instead of lying they under-estimated how long it would take to finish up and what was originally a hopeful "It'll be out soon" is now a "due to unforeseen issues it's taking longer than expected". "Lying" implies that they intended to mislead.
I'd like one extra large update aged over 450 days for perfection to go, please. Would I like localization files with that? Sure, just don't forget my free bug that comes with every meal, thank you.
I'm calling it, they are porting to Source 2, and the wait is just the porting. They will do some "It will never happen again because we will never port to a new engine again" post, and things will start to improve. There is just to much pointing to it, I'm starting work on a video with the evidence.
Albeit it a funny and perhaps seemingly impossible suggestion, the idea that Valve will actually prioritize a significant amount of mannpower on the project sounds quite believable if you assume Valve is conscious about just how poor of a state Team Fortress 2 is in now, specially when compared to its release. Of course I want them to be porting the game. I want that to be the major reason for the huge delay, if not more. I think I've reached the point where I no longer want "another campaign pass update." If anything that shit is like a dog treat meant to tide you over until the next one. Don't get me wrong the Campaign Passes are fun to an extent and can certainly bring attention... But are they more valuable than updates spent on fixing core issues with the game? I won't toxx out of hype like the many retards in this thread, but I'll stand with you on the idea that Valve might just be working on porting Team Fortress 2 to the Source 2 engine. Godspeed valvenews

If tf2 gets ported to source 2 can I finally have 4 cosmetic slots?
These toxxes are horrible, it's the equivalent of dickwaving. "Haha if the update doesn't release soon I'm gonna PICK MY NOSE" Don't dickwave unless you have a dick in the first place. You have to put something valuable down, and no I don't mean something expensive, I mean something that you don't want to lose, or is something very shameful.

Ignored the thread for like a week, I come back, there is no pyro update but people expect a source2 port. The fuck did i miss?
Ignored the thread for like a week, I come back, there is no pyro update but people expect a source2 port. The fuck did i miss?
You missed nothing, people have simply fallen into the bargaining stage of grief. "No pyro update? Well can we at least get a source2 port?"
Ignored the thread for like a week, I come back, there is no pyro update but people expect a source2 port. The fuck did i miss?
People are just discussing different topics at this point, and since there is a lot of refrences to some type of an engine change, then we have got to source 2.
Toxx: TF2 will never be fully ported to Source 2. Some partial shit like Panorama UI might happen, but there won't be a full port, not in a million years. Actually, I'm on board with this source 2 port rumor. Not because I believe it, but because it's a win-win scenario for realists everywhere. If i'm right, then the game will be tremendously better. If i'm wrong, everybody will see how deplorable valve's work schedule is, which reaffirms my expectations from the start. Hear that, Valve? Hope to see that port soon! Or watch you get burned at the stake! There's no losing for me at this point!

How can we claim valve lied to us if they never say anything concrete about the update? Edit: sometimes I think flurry just waits around to dumb box my posts. Almost everything I've written in this thread (and earlier) regardless of context has been shat upon without a counterpoint
