no pyro or sniper
[t]https://files.catbox.moe/7pjz2w.png[/t] qt EDIT: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=32954 TOTH News post landed. On the final day :v:
no pyro or sniper
Wot if pyro is actually a hermaphrodite?
Better late then never on that news post right??
I really like female variations of TF2 characters when they aren't creepy AF "femme pyro" models with preposterous proportions. This Heavy Weapons Gal was made by a Deviant Art user in 2008: [t]https://i.imgur.com/Zo8vpud.jpg[/t]
So are the Female characters a scrapped idea? I can't imagine how much new voice actors they would have to hire for that. Would be cool though.
Those designs are okay, I guess. You know how everyone always praises TF2 for great and distinct silhouettes? Well, half of these just feel the same. Not to say that they aren't cute or good looking.
At least people who make the femclass models now have something to base it on. But you know, they'll just take the model and make the breasts 10 times bigger.
I don't have a recording of this, and this could just be a joke but I was on one of the Nemu's servers last night and Jill said that in the new update, community servers will be able to pick the bitrate of the voice chat. I wasn't recording at the time, and he said it in voice chat so I couldn't screenshot it. Maybe someone else can post it, I dunno.

My favorite is Granny Demo.
my curiosity is piqued. if the designs of the male cast was largely based on idealized imagery of those sorts of characters (soldier being based on wartime propaganda, scout on food and toy advertisement child mascots and the like, spy on james bond and the medic on crazed scientists of the media from the era) then shouldnt the female cast follow the same trends, being portrayed as idealized women of whatever respective character they are? it seems unfitting for scout to be a somewhat masculine black woman. a good handful of these concepts just dont seem to fit the art direction from a design standpoint.

I see where you're coming from but there's exceptions even in the original cast.

I thought he primarily went for chat?
BTW the Toth blog post is our fault, not Valve's. Nobody had emailed them to make it until I did last night.
That's not a minigun, it's a machine gun.
-snip- i'm dumb and didn't realize i typed minigun
Sniper as an australian hitman, demo as a drunken black scot, pyro as ???... About 50% of the designs of the Male cast came from the culture of the time. None of the female cast seem based even loosely off of the culture of the 50s and 60s. It just looks like he was like "We need Females in the cast of TF2! Why? Because we need equality!". If these were designed with the 50s in mind, i wouldn't be too flustered with them. They just seem too forced.
Concepts are often going to be more general and rough, if they would've gone through with it I don't doubt they would've picked fitting ones instead of making 'em all generic and the more refined artwork would reflect that. Not really going to get that with basic concept drawings, though.
Jill used voice chat in that night? I thought he primarily went for chat?
Yeah, he also sang a little song once he got a tele up in the goldrush stage 1 attic: "take jill's teleporter, take jill's teleporter, take jill's teleporter to the aaatiiiic"
Yeah, he also sang a little song once he got a tele up in the goldrush stage 1 attic: "take jill's teleporter, take jill's teleporter, take jill's teleporter to the aaatiiiic"
It sounds like he's going insane
It sounds like he's going insane
The Potted Plant is slowly but surely turning Jill into another plant. Soon, the entire TF2 office will be overtaken. Then, the other teams. Then the entire world.
The art style is dead, I see no reason to pretend its still a driving factor now.
Character Design and Art style are two different things, my dude.
Character Design and Art style are two different things, my dude.
Certainly that is why our deep well designed 1950s characters can equip White Banana heads with sunglasses.
Wow those female merc designs are amazing, fem Soldier would have been really neat. I am especially fond of this draft;
Certainly that is why our deep well designed 1950s characters can equip White Banana heads with sunglasses.
What even are you trying to point out here ? That mere micro-transactions are the Characteristics and personality of said character ? Sorry to bust your bubble buddy, but micro-transactions have nothing to do with designs of characters. Is D.va a police officer in the game and lore ? I don't think so.
Also the fact that there's items now that legitimately fuck up team colour recognition
The Engineer girl is really cute. But all the designs as a whole are miles better than those fan models.
I like how they give off the same personality without being 'same body type but its a lady'
Heres how I imagine it actually is, -Dota 2 has 10x the players TF2 has -CS:GO has 5x the players TF2 has why the fuck would you give TF2 attention when you could make content for that many more people, and make that much more money instead? Economically, we don't matter as much.
I don't want to bring up the Coke versus Sprite analogy again. Suffice it to say, this isn't a valid excuse for Valve.
