Jill just came out and deconfirmed it. Literally in the final hours- not, you know, in the days prior he had to let us know it didn't mean anything (to us) and not to waste our energy hyping over it. :)
Sorry, exactly where did he do this?
Disappointed. One word. Simple. Disappointed. Seems like this dev team // company always disappoints.
Can't really blame the dev team for the update taking so long because they have to deal with the antiquated engine and the messy code and not able to play test because of how small they are, however I will blame them for the lack of communication between them and the community. A blog post from them saying what's going on isn't enough to make up for the radio silence in between.

Nothing to have deconfirmed if the community doesn't hype meaningless numbers. [t]http://i.imgur.com/K0KPgis.jpg[/t] (User was banned for this post ("Reaction image" - Craptasket))
Over hyping is frankly your own fault, not Valves.
Nuh uh. No. Stop giving valve free passes. Stop giving this dev team free passes. It's been over TWO MONTHS since the balance changes blog post. They're actually holding content away from us. These changes are presumably done. They aren't releasing what they have done, which is the balance changes everyone wants. We havent heard anything but shit about cases since than. Nothing. Hate to be rude, but stop giving your sympathy to these fucking awful developers. I'm not trying to be a pessimist but this past year and some change has made me awfully cynical. That's what they are. Awful devs.
Dane shouldn't be at fault at all, he said himself he just saw the date on the whiteboard and got excited, not knowing exactly what it means. I guarantee if anyone else went there instead, they would of done the same thing, maybe even worse and say for sure its coming out on that date.
He said that after he knew his original tweet had backfired. After visiting valve, he teases the date 9/6, implying that he knew the update would come out then. Although it's a dick move, it's up to us to not get too over hyped over it.
i do agree that if dane was straightforward about this info he learned from the git-go i would have nothing to argue against him
Bummer.
Dane should have been more straightforward about explaining how he found the information but I am legitimately curious at why there would be 9/6 on a whiteboard alongside a jungle. The way it's described sounds explicitly created to be leaked information. The fact that not only did valve avoid deconfirming this early on but they had such a thing visible during a tour they were well aware had community figures is fucking pitiful.
It is almost as if valve as a company does not care about the game???

There's really no other explanation I could think of
Either dane made it up, or the team posted that to mess with those who came to visit. There's really no other explanation I could think of
Have you considered Internal Testing? Or a team meeting? Because that last one was something VNN talked about in the q&a video in July.
You know...I was prepared for nothing to happen today. Fairly prepared, even- the date on the calendar, I rationalized, could just as easily be something internal. But I really didn't want it to be. I've been waiting so fucking long for scraps from the TF Team, so long that I had given up months ago because there was nothing to hold onto. But then Dane presented a little glimmer of hope- and in all honesty, I'm not mad at him. He saw what he saw, explained it for what it was and let us come to our own conclusions based on it. I appreciate him reporting what he saw. What I do not appreciate is the piece of fucking work Valve employees have been for the past few days. Just yesterday we have a Valve employee going off on Dane- on Reddit- for an entirely unrelated theory, without bothering to take the few extra moments it might have taken to debunk the ninesix speculation, which actually did have some substance behind it. Today, we have Drunken F00l- at least him, who got his start on TF2- watching our forum, no doubt including our speculation and being aware of it, rating a single post about him and disappearing into the ether, not contributing even a tidbit to the conversation. And finally- finally- we get Jill-Him-Fucking-Self commenting on our speculation in a PM, less than two hours before the "deadline" where we should give up finding more...and not just saying "hey, there's nothing tonight, sorry!" but looking at our speculation with what almost seems like disdain, summing it up to a fucking reaction gif of a guy jumping out of a window. He couldn't just come in here and say, hey, nothing's happening guys. That's a date for internal testing related to the update! He couldn't deconfirm it before the hype train started actually taking off for people today. No, he- and the rest of the Valve employees who have been mysteriously active for the past few days- waited until the last goddamn fucking minute to dismiss our hypes for a long-overdue content update to this nigh-abandoned game. WHO FUCKING DOES THAT? Do they just hate us?

I don't think it's as simple as "they have the update done and they aren't releasing it." It would probably benefit us all to step back and take a breather instead of lashing out over this turn of events (but I am still confused at why they had 9/6 on a whiteboard in plain sight among visitors if it led to nothing though).
Either dane made it up, or the team posted that to mess with those who came to visit. There's really no other explanation I could think of
hours after that date came out to the public, the tf team should've said "no no wait guys, this isn't anything". total silence, as usual, leading people (like me) to believe that in silence they were confirming it. they obviously wouldn't say "yeah, it's coming out then". I have a feeling tomorrow is going to suck when it comes to emails for them
Either dane made it up, or the team posted that to mess with those who came to visit. There's really no other explanation I could think of
What if it meant something different internally to the team? Like choosing maps or hats or something. They wouldn't deliberately just fuck with us when they know we're this close to losing it.
Either dane made it up, or the team posted that to mess with those who came to visit. There's really no other explanation I could think of
A. The Update is still today. B. The Update was at the time planned for today and got postponed. C. It was an internal note that they didn't think of erasing. D. The TF Team is trolling us. E. Something has already happened and we haven't noticed (ARG?) I could go on, but I'm already stretching a lot by E.
Why would they leak a date to community figures about an update that they worked on for a year. Honestly why would you believe that?

They are actually holding parts, large portions even, of this update. I don't even care why they aren't releasing it. They should have released it a month ago.
I'm honestly surprised you're still hyped for the update 14 months in.
I wasn't! That's the thing! I'd given up until the Dane leak gave us something to actually consider. I'm pretty sure there was at least internal testing or something today, else the date wouldn't have been on display like that. But I wasn't hyped anymore! Not until four days ago. And they watched us get excited, they watched us get eager for a content update, and they waited until the very last second to tell us it wasn't happening yet. How much do you have to fucking despise your customers to do something like that?
take a break
yeah like you make fair points dude but dont let yourself get worked up over it, its not worth it
Shall we use Meme Magic to spawn the update into reality?

Just give us a blog post already for fuck sake, this is ridiculous.

You're treating valve like they're spiteful neighbors, not as an actual company.
:dogchill:
At this point, assuming that there really is no chance of the update being this week, I'd like to have a small blog post by the TF Team apologizing over this whole mess, like they did on the first day after MyM's launch with Casual's disastrous first impression. I feel like their silence over the situation is what caused the most harm here.
Assuming were still a ways away from the update, now would be a good time for "balance changes part 2", as balancing is honestly what im excited for the most from this update they made note of how they received a lot of feedback from people after the initial balance changes post, so im curious to see what they've done with it
