The SAG-AFTRA and videogame companies have reached a tentative agreement to end the voice actor's strike that's affecting TF2. The Pyro/Jungle update was in development for so long that the strike didn't really affect TF2 since stuff in development before the strike wasn't affected by it.
But if they release it on the 10th then we'll know that they've had it completed and made the concious decision to delay its release for the anniversary. Furthermore, any update that isn't the pyro update from now on will surely be relentlessly shit on by the community. Honestly, any move that Valve makes at this point will be heavily criticized, but doubly so if they manage to ruin the Halloween event as well.
And no one will be angry that they sat on an update that's already long overdue?
And no one will be angry that they sat on an update that's already long overdue?
They will, that's my point.
Oh man, imagine they just so happen to finish the update the week of the 10th. They might actually be afraid to release it that week because people will think it was held back for it. Lack of communication leads to these kinds of situations.
they could just.. say they weren't holding it back for that
If they made it into a witty blog entry it might help. I imagine a lot of people would still believe otherwise.
It amazes me how much the development of this update parallels Half-Life's fate. At least this has a higher chance of being released.
They'll say it's celebrating any anniversary of TF2 other than the 10th. 9th or 11th is fine. 8th is also ok. 12th is acceptable, but pushing it. Don't even ask about 7. On the bright side, think how exciting it must be for them when they're finally ready to type up that blog post and hit 'send'. I don't know why that thought came into my head, but for some reason I think it's a nice one.
I will need a Raising the Bar for them to explain how in the fuck an update took nearly a year and a half
"Welcome to the Pyro update. After 9 years...."
Couldn't quote rest of it, because it would have suggested that they spent any meaningful time developing the update.
"Welcome to the Pyro update. After 9 years...."
"...hopefully it'll live up to your standards. If not, please let me know. I can be reached at gaben@ valvesoftware.com, and my favorite class is the Spy. Thanks, and have fun!"
What the actual fuck have they been doing this past year in order for the update to not be out yet?
When was the last time the TFteam made a non-promotional hat?
When was the last time the TFteam made a non-promotional hat?
Promos are usually done by community contributors with a contract instead of being made by the TF2 team.
I expect Pyro to be a completely different class with every Pyro weapon changed at this rate
It amazes me how much the development of this update parallels Half-Life's fate. At least this has a chance of being released.
FTFY
If the blog post is snarky I think I might shit out my heart in rage
Speaking of promotional hats, a Black Mesa dev created promo items for TF2. http://steamcommunity.com/id/bmworkshop/myworkshopfiles/?appid=440 I believe they're intended to launch with the Steam release of Black Mesa in December. I don't know about you guys, but these items look friggin awesome to me.
I can only hope the crowbar gets added. Bonus points if it makes the HL1/TFC sounds.
The Crowbar has to be added as a wrench for Engy if they don't make it all class
The Crowbar has to be added as a wrench for Engy is they don't make it all class
Well, it lists all classes under the crowbar workshop listing, so probably. Backstabbing people with the crowbar will be fun, lol.
I wish we got another promo like Sleeping Dogs. Kong King is still one of the most visually impressive maps in the game, the cosmetics were nice looking, and the weapons were also pretty fun.
I wish we got another promo like Sleeping Dogs. Kong King is still one of the most visually impressive maps in the game, the cosmetics were nice looking, and the weapons were also pretty fun.
It's still crazy to think we got a promo with a map and weapons (we've only ever gotten just promo weapons before) even if the map got delayed a little bit. Honestly the TF2 team used to add promos too often and add too many poor quality ones. Now they barely add any. There's a happy medium that I don't think the team is hitting. The Black Mesa promos look great and I hope they get added to the game.
Backstabbing people with the crowbar will be fun, lol.
The mere thought brings back memories of Manhunt and the horrific sound of severed spinal columns.

I am actually fucking confused as to the fact that they didn't do a TFC themed update
I am actually fucking confused as to the fact that they didn't do a TFC themed update
Then they could actually do something with all the TFC items in the workshop.
