What about making them just a darker teamcolor?
I was thinking about making the red parts of the hat and collar paintable, so I want to keep the stripes neutral. I can try it out though, if it's dark enough maybe it's fine

I would make the stripes a darker team color and have them paintable instead. Pure white + a painted color would look really grody.

you're gonna want some of the color around the edges of uv islands to spill over, you'll avoid the white seams easier that way
