He's only doing this because Vipes got a VAC ban (from Loadout, ages ago, for cheating on SINGLE player) and one of Vipes' items was accepted.
im pretty damn certain ive seen a few workshoppers with VAC bans you know, the type from 2000+ days ago i dont think anyone should care what someone did 6 years ago in a video game
"Sentry going up." Its been a while since my last post about the artillery sentry for the Frontline update. The base models and the animation are completed and we are now heading forward to the lods and destruction parts. At final we have to fit the firstperson animation to the new toolbox and the upcoming PDA. One big thing that bothers me so far are the legs of the sentry. My intention is to create a custom skin for the stock sentry gun, this means there should be no visually advantages or disadvantages on that skin. The legs of the stock sentry shows the player the orientation of the sentry gun with its three legged frame. The artillery sentry however, uses a four legged frame which gives no clue of the exact orientation of the basement. Do you guys think this may be a big disadvantage for the enemy player like a spy? If so what could be the solution to solve it? [t]http://i.imgur.com/qAl6VyB.jpg[/t] Gadget wishes some thoughts on his stunning textures.
But it is though, isn't it? It was the same for contests, winter sales, and some other stuff.
i really don't know what it's like to get vac banned, ive never been banned personally so idk about sales or contests but it makes sense for valve to not give you free content via the store if you've got banned but removing your access to the entire steam community and not letting you upload user generated content would be a step above just a cheating ban, that would just be a community ban at that point. the way you're typing is strange it's like you're desperately trying to get someone to say "wow you're right good point", idk what you're trying to prove but i really don't think vac bans are that serious and i think most people would agree. you act like vac ban recipients should be jailed.
He's only doing this because Vipes got a VAC ban (from Loadout, ages ago, for cheating on SINGLE player) and one of Vipes' items was accepted.
lol wtf, alright i guess i'm done here. why do people go after vipes so hard?
you should make a team colored box so the box doesnt obscure the team of the wielder
lol wtf, alright i guess i'm done here. why do people go after vipes so hard?
For starters, all his work is workslop material. Secondly, he got Pagliacci banned a few years ago when Vipes posted his shitty scout set, causing chaos in the halloween emporium. Thirdly because what kind of idiot get permabanned as much as he does. Fourthly, he's just terrible at everything he does.
*words*
Yes I'm sure he stole such an obscure and uncommon pattern such as checkerboards and stripes. The fiend. Question for you. At what point did you think your personal feud with someone was grounds to prevent them from submitting and possibly receiving revenue?
You do realize that it could be mere coincidence right? like there are so many people in the community that some people are bound to have the same ideas at some point. I mean he isn't entirely guilt free, but its still rude to attack him relentlessly. I mean nobody has copyright on checkerboards, Gatsby hats, and barber pole stripes, so cool your jets kid. I dunno what your personal beef with him is, but you shouldn't try to drag it elsewhere. Either publicly or not, just because he got vac banned doesn't mean it has anything about his work.
Do elaborate, you must know something the others don't.
He made a hat that is literally just Commander Cobra's helmet with a class logo on the side. hey guys I'm 15 years old and over-inflate meaningless bullshit because a bunch of angry loners on an image board taught me that that's an acceptable way to act
Well since I'm here I may as well drop the results of some recent experimentation. Specifically with normalmaps. While it matters significantly less for ingame items given how cruel dxt compression is to normalmaps; for promotional shots it may be worthwhile to bake your normals as a 16bit tiff and then downsample to the usual 8bit tga. Reason being there is often very slight banding on just raw 8bit normalmaps due to insufficient colordepth. Downsampling trades banding in exchange for noise and it leads to a small but noticeable improvement. No normalmap on the left, raw 8bit on the middle, downsampled 16bit to 8bit on the right.
Finally got back into making this item and decided to try my hand at making normal maps by making high-poly model in blender and baking it on the actual model. I pretty much instantly ran into this problem with 'blockynes' in the normal map. I would appreciate any help with this problem and tips about using blenders sculpting mode. You could do something simple, like add a small winch system to the back of the legs that's never used, but gives the vibe of utility. Also, the box looks very bright in comparison to the sentry, which seems dark. Imo the metal in particular could stand to be more shiny.

Thanks in advance!
That's dxt compression. Everyone's least favorite form of texture compression. Couple examples first. Uncompressed on the left. Dxt compressed on the right. Block compression. Cutting an image into 4 by 4 chunks which can only have 4 colors each. A quarter of the filesize and it streams into the gpu faster. Damn near everything in every Source game uses it. Pretty severe artifacting sure but there's a little more to it. Take the normalmap above into an image editor and flip through the color channels and you'll notice something else. Dxt has a bias towards the green channel when compressing. What happens then is that often the red and blue channel, despite dxt supposedly being 4 colors per chunk, are just 1-2 color solid blocks. And this is really bad for normalmaps as the red channel matters just as much as the green. They're X and Y vectors. As you might expect giving 4 by 4 chunks all the same value makes things pretty blocky. It worsens even further the lower resolution you go. Thus the squares that have appeared along the surface of your item. Dxt is the only compression Valve allows you with the importer (which is so incredibly dumb given an uncompressed normal at half res looks better nearly 100% of the time and takes up just a tiny bit more memory than it's dxt counterpart) so you should probably keep it in mind while authoring. The best way to minimize normalmap artifacting is to reduce gradients as much as possible. There are dozens of ways to do this but the quickest and most popular way is to just weight your vertex normals so the normalmap does less work. Another way is to make sure the bulk of your strong gradients end up in the green channel so they survive being compressed.

CS:GO AWP ported to TF2 with its animations. Still needs some origin tweaking. The airfilters on these were covered with some kind of fabric, so it would be cool if the fabric on the mask model for pyro is damaged with holes burned trough and with stitches everywere. Also does somebody have some links to some reference material for Pyro? the only things I seem to find is a frontal an a side view, but nothing in between, no head reference, no back reference... I might be searching in the wrong place. ps. The picture I used for this one is from a mod for another game and the background for this picture is dark grey which is annoying.
