texture is still slightly WIP but would anyone want to work on custom particles for this?
we're hoping for a subtle smoke effect coming from the mouth as well as maybe some very small flames/embers
we're also going to work on a custom projectile [sp]likely post-release[/sp] that might need custom particles as well
Might just be me but this looks more like itd belong in Dota, not tf2. It looks great, dont get me wrong, just visually its very detailed and not very cartoony. But maybe Id have to see it ingame.

it's really tame in comparison to most in-game wood textures, and there arent any weapons that take the form of logs/tree bark so there was nothing to take reference from.
All of the detailing is a bit more focused and refined than world tree textures, but I really don't see what's stopping it from fitting into the TF2 universe and artstyle at all.
It's really just a different way of portraying wood (most materials in TF2 have been experimented with and are represented differently in different circumstances), and it still more than suits the aesthetic in my eyes

I saw on his fp profile that he's 25... not sure what's going on with him. I don't wanna accuse but I have an inkling that he may be trolling us all hard.
dudes the woooden flaregun looks good ingame, its just the blender viewport not having any shader, now aside from that...we are looking someone to do the particle effects.

4 years worth of bad workshop submissions is quite the commitment for a ruse.
wow it really does look like it belongs in dota lol

completely different examples, most tf2 wood is extremely flat and basic and textures are less painterly in favor of broad strokes and low contrast edge wear
ikes' item is extremely well crafted but it's stylized to the point that it ignores TF2's existing artstyle in favor of looking individually good, which is less than ideal for a game that simplifies details
I don't see any problem with the model but honestly i'd say simplifying a lot of the texture detail would make it fit tf2 better

I know you're asking for custom particles, but if it's not too late to throw in my two cents about this weapon, I'd like to, if that's okay:

Excuse the messy work as I did this super quick, but I feel like the structural integrity of this flare gun makes it look like it's on its last legs. More re-inforcement to the barrel with more tape or vines could make it look more structurally sound; bulking up the wood itself would make it look more sturdy also maybe? The more readable the parts of the gun as a whole from afar, the better. Simplicity in things like the tape and the angles taken in the wood could look nice.
The tooth, where it sits currently, also feels like it could be somewhere that is not directly in the way of the barrel, too. The tooth always looked to me that it would disrupt whatever would shoot out of the barrel itself, with the way the sharp point curls up and all. Moving it to the handle somehow might look neat, but I feel silly even posting any of this in the first place since all of you have already gotten so far in the process itself.
Ignore this all completely if you want, given the circumstances- I do like the idea of this gun conceptually and I'm happy to see it in the final stages. If I knew anything about particles I'd offer more, I just wish you all luck with the rest. Sorry if I'm stepping over any boundaries helping or if I'm too late with all of this!

the tooth is more than aesthetics tbh, I needed something to use as a fore grip
also from a front angle the tooth isnt in the way of the barrel, the tip sits below the lower lip
otherwise I kinda prefer the disintegrating tone, it feels like it has more personality as-is
I like this paintover and if we were earlier in the process I would be inclined to include some of this but as it stands it's kinda too late
but as it stands it's kinda too late
Its never to late. The Bolshevik Bomber weapon I did for arms race 2 was basically finished, then Square pointed out how it didn't fit with TF2's style. He did a similar thing that retro just has and we redid the entire model.

I personally love the longer barrel, but maybe you could do something about all of the unused space?
Give it some noisy features, like bandage wraps or strips of metal holding it together, just for some detail, perhaps.
I do really like the shape of it, so far, especially the end of the barrel. Reminds me of a blunderbuss.
If you really like, I could give texturing it a shot, whether or not you use it is up to you, though, because I'm sure more talented people would love to help!

Well it looks now like it can fit in both games so I think you have an opportunity here. Both TF2 & DOTA2 are owned by the same company. So I don't think it will hinder the chances of acception if you roll with the "It looks like something out of DOTA" thing and just upload it as the "Dotanator", make sfm art for this thing look as much as possible as a scene out of DOTA and if you really want to go nuts with it: Try to upload this on both the TF2 workshop as well as the DOTA2 workshop and play the whole thing of as "A celebratory Item to commemorate the achievements of the Steam workshop as a whole".
More profit...
Nearly done with a couple things, with FiveEyes on the claymore and Vipes on the rocket launcher. Hopefully both will be finished and released in a week or so.

Question about animation swapping, I basically switched the Bottle/Caber anims with the Eyelander's to make the double claymore actually swing like Demo's other swords, but shields don't show up on Demo's arm. Not sure if it's because of switched models, was wondering if that's something that can be fixed
guys listen, i understand all critics here but right now because of time we arent able to change many things of the weapon as we would like to, both me and ikes are happy with the end result of the weapon and we are looking someone with cool skills in particle making so we can give this weapon a proper finish touch, we dont have THE time to change the weapon that much, i have a busy job and ikes have to do ike's things.
btw, the weapon looks really different when compile it ingame, what you guys are seeing is just the blender viewport without any light.
so yeah we are looking for a particle guy ASAP. please

I think the main issue with it is the gun just doesn't look like the type of thing the TF2 Mercs would use as a Weapon,
Why would anyone painstakingly craft a a flaregun out of bits of wood and scrap, seems totally counter productive, especially with other more refined weaponry on offer.
( Not to mention the whole thing would burst into flames upon use. )
In TF2 pretty much all the weapons are either manufactured weapons or day to day items that are readily available to them (Fishes,Frying Pans, Boxing Gloves, Golf Clubs etc.)
Which is why your weapon looks so jarring when put in the context of TF2.
All of the discussion regarding how it fits Dota is pretty much spot on, seeing as in Dota most gun type items are forged with bits of scrap and wood, which is a big part of its art style.
I know at this stage you're just wanting to finish It, which makes total sense to me. Clearly a lot of work has been put in, but the idea itself is kind of flawed and ill-fitting so spending much more time on it would be a bit pointless.
I think in the future when making a weapon for TF2 you really need to compare what you're making with pre-existing stuff within the game,
so that you don't fall into the trap of making something that looks cool independently but looks weird in context.

But aren't a lot of pyros weapons made from junk and spare parts? Isn't his flamethrower homemade too?
But aren't a lot of pyros weapons made from junk and spare parts? Isn't his flamethrower homemade too?
Yes, bits of metal and day to day objects, things that don't tend to be counter productive when you are making something to set people on fire with. Unlike wood.
:snip:
moving forward to another topic...
Yyyeah like
Even with whatever's been said, I say it looks very impressive and it'd be something to be proud of. I say you & Ikes did a pretty good job with this design~
I'm all for using existing items to help with you idea, but it's still not cool to just completely use an existing idea and make it your own. It's obvious your take on the harness is pretty much the exact same as the Cold Snap, so you really, REALLY need to scrap that and do it your way.
I'd like to think I've been fair in my critiques, and while I've been a bit iffy about you using someone else's work without their consent, I'd like to've been a bit more constructive and fair. But because you straight up ignore anything advice given to you, even when you pitch your work to the Emporium, it's just ending up being a waste of time on everyone's part.

Listen to us when we give you advice on how to improve, rather than go ahead and make a fool of yourself on the workshop when you post something seemingly rushed and wonder why noone likes it. If you end up going ahead with using this model, despite everything we've said to you, it won't end well on your behalf. Being made fun of for making work that many people called bad is one thing, but plagerism on someone elses' work is a completely different path you don't want to go down.
[editline]1st March 2017[/editline]
This may be a complete change of tone from what I've been saying, but I should also point out that lucarioaaron has also been reuploading a lot of concept art onto his DeviantArt account. He tags all of his reuploads as adult so it doesn't end up showing on his main page.
(As well as a lot of genuinely NSFW art, so a massive warning to those without a mature filter enabled on their account.)
[T]https://puu.sh/uoVQW/be393d16dc.png[/T]
I've TRIED being reasonable when it comes to giving you advice, but this is straight up unacceptiable. I'd be angrier if you were trying to profit off the artwork of others, but this shit still really gets on my nerves.
We were done with this. Please stop bringing it back up just think of it as this that your stuff is good enough to steal okay?okay?!
I feel uninformed. What exactly happened?

Go back a few pages like 2-3 and read till present cause I rather not have another 3 filled when the space is better used to display new content and not stolen concepts.
