I'm usually all for friendly competition and stuff, but it looks reaally close to something we did last year with Pie_Savvy
Damn dude, I hadn't seen that. I just tried to throw together like a heavy-duty brain scanner/wiring thing for the heavy like he has a heavy-duty baboon heart. Sorry about that, my apologies. Edit: If you want me to take it down for some reason, I will.

We assumed it was just a funny coincidence rather than some dastardly stealing anyway.

Hey, guys. A bit of an out there concept but I was wondering what you thought about this Spy weapon idea. It's basically a garrote, but the backstab initiates an animation. Obviously I'm not going to talk stats but a downside would have to be that during the animation, the victim could be saved, but with some nice buffs, it could encourage players to be a lot more selective around their targets, as well as focusing more on stealth. As I've never done a weapon like this before, I'm not leaving much to be certain and instead wondering what you guys thought. If anyone would like to take this on, please do hit me up. It's a very old suggestion, but if modelled and animated well it could be cool anyway.

It was a shaving knife to cut of the throat, but I left it as a backstabbing "knife" since it was very hard to make it look like as if you really would cut of the others players throat. Im not even sure if its possible since the weapon/hands animation are only a part of the players view and they might cannot reach through a second player standing infront. In worst case, it might look like this in the end: [t]http://i.imgur.com/nPxxfzv.png[/t] But its definitely worth a try
Interesting thing to note, at one point early in Team Fortress 2's development story, back when it was called "Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood in arms" they were going to give the spy Piano Wire to strangle people with. You can see it in action around the 18 seconds mark. One of the problems I see with it though is the knife is pretty instant. Strangling with wire wouldn't look right unless it took time to actually kill the person, from which the spy really cannot afford to do... Instead of strangling he could just lop off the enemies head if it were sharp enough ( and the spy being strong enough to actually pull it off ) I guess. Although I cant' see the Razorback stopping this since he's not stabbing the back lol.

That way everyone can be put in the correct place (for example, the RPS taunt).
One of the problems I see with it though is the knife is pretty instant. As I said, the time taken to kill the victim would mean players would have to be more selective and stealthy
The downside would obviously be that you lose the ability to chain stab people quickly. Once triggered the view would switch to thirdperson and the Spy should probably not be able to cancel the animation (just like a taunt). During animation the enemy team could still kill the Spy, saving the victim. To balance all these downsides for the Spy there need to be a number of really good upsides. Something like extremely quick/silent cloak/decloak and possibly more health or maybe increased movement speed. The duration of the animation is also pretty crucial. If it takes to long I can imagine it being rather difficult to effectively use in game.
I think that Hitman has about the right idea for time (which is 3 seconds, maybe give a little) EDIT: Actually the bomb dropped lines would work pretty well if the victim gets saved. For example: Soldier Engineer Heavy

That might not fit Spy as well but it'd be cool imo.
Yeah, just pop their heads off like he's using a cheese wire. :v:
If you're trying to make it as fast as a regular backstab, I'd suggest having it decapitate the head instead. That might not fit Spy as well but it'd be cool imo.
The main thing of this weapon would be that backstabs take a lot longer than before.
The main thing of this weapon would be that backstabs take a lot longer than before.
If this is giving other stats than a normal knife (which will clearly be) then you should ask yourself, why would somebody rather use this "slow" kind of instant kill than a quick backstab?
The main thing of this weapon would be that backstabs take a lot longer than before.
I imagine a piano wire would be longer than a backstab as you have to overpower the other person compared to just stabbing them in the back with a knife. Edit: Would make a great mini game, clicking faster than the other person.
If this is giving other stats than a normal knife (which will clearly be) then you should ask yourself, why would somebody rather use this "slow" kind of instant kill than a quick backstab?
Those stats would be up for Valve to decide, but I think it would go down as Gadget said, being a bunch of extremely useful buffs. The main idea behind this is to encourage a new playstyle with Spy, hence why it's a bit out there.
Edit: Would make a great mini game, clicking faster than the other person.
I don't think so. Some people would just use external fast mouse clicking programs.
I don't think so. Some people would just use external fast mouse clicking programs.
And those people would get banned.
And those people would get banned.
Razer Synapse has a built in macro function. Although a quick button mash mini-game would be neat, I don't think it would be worth the trouble.
I feel like making it take longer for someone to die might be interesting since you essentially decommissioned a player for a while longer than usual, instead of simply mashing to kill them
Hello guys, I have a few questions or atleast tips on how to improve on this at all, I am making a Ventriloquist dummy head for the pyro this halloween, and I was wondering If i can get some input or some ideas. Heres what I have so far. {edit} the idea was to have a huge break on the head making him look decrepit
Snip-O
You've gotta give your cracked area's hard edges and maybe experiment with hardening up some of those facial features.
You've gotta give your cracked area's hard edges and maybe experiment with hardening up some of those facial features.
Thanks I'll try that when I get back home from work.
wire ought to have a completely silent kill. no kill feed, no death scream, totally silent. shouldnt take too long, and the spy should be able to cloak after a kill significantly quicker. perhaps it provides several seconds of shimmer resistance as well as several seconds of faster cloak and decloak? it could also be able to be initiated out of a cloak, where the decloak happens during the animation.
Perhaps it could be usable while having an active disguise, and the disguise would only disappear once the victim dies.
Or how about to being disguised all the time but the victim lasts 2-3 seconds till he dies. During this progress, the ally team can attack the spy and the victim gets "free" in a stun position for a while.
alright, I have sharpened up the break on the head and sharpened some of the facial features, I was wondering If I should give this a wood texture or should I paint it like a newer dummy (with cracks) or should i make it look like the paint is starting to wear off exposing the wood.
I don't know if Ventriloquist dolls can be made from porcelain but porcelain breaking like that would make more sense than wood. You could also make the cracked part thinner and give it bit more defined jawline.
Ok, I'll see what I can do, thanks alot.
