How do alot of you model hair? Do you make the base model in Blender and sculpt the normals, or do you sculpt the base and cut down on tris before doing the normals?

Cross post from Halloween thread Hit an emergency situation here, turns out we lost our texture artist on this set and need help ASAP. Everything else is set to go (SFM, lods, flexes the works) we just need textures and normals for the pants/mantle combo and the gloves/boots combo. The hat has been completed. I didn't imply the texture work was bad, the model and texture themselves are fine, but the red is out of place and jarring on the medic compared to the more reasonable coat color style.
I guess it's a matter of taste, I don't have any issue with it personally, and it should also be noted that I'm a huge fan of burly winter coats so again, taste. I don't think it's inherently bad, a lot of players like it and I think the color is tasteful enough. not to mention my vest doesnt even bleed red, it's going to be mostly overalls and dark grey

By finger pointing at other color scheme changing items you're not defending your design, you're defending mistakes. You're saying "Yeah it may not be a good design but others did it so its okay". Slippery slope blah blah blah. Personal preferences and good design are two separate things. I like the vest colors, but don't think it would be good in game.
Oh no, I'm sorry that I started something bad. :frown: I guess I'm not a big fan of the "put another big coat on top of a merc's existing coat" school of items. And it's no coincidence that two of the biggest offenders of drastically changing a class's colours, the Medical Monarch and the Caped Crusader, quickly had new styles more faithful to the correct team colours created for them.

I'm surprised they didn't just make that one the default colour.
