Similiar, but different.
You can see the missing spikes and the "dots" on the nose.

I used it as a reference layer, did redraw
It's noticeable that's the shape is different

Nah dude, Pagliacci's right, ya can't just say someone's wrong and that these things are different without actually comparing or researching...

Like this is friggin' dumb.
It's a trace, man.
I don't see the point of your witchhunt Pagliacci, this is the litteral first time I use a reference as a layer for my concepts.
You're just here to do the thing you exceed on, being an arrogant cunt.

Just because it's the first time you did something dumb doesn't mean it's ok.
Does that mean I should get away with thrusting a sharpened pencil into someone's butthole just because it's the first time I did it?

Keep your smart lessons for you.
I did probably wrong directly using it as a layer and painting over, but I haven't said that It was a good move.
Just stated the annoying witch hunt Pagliacci is doing.
I got like nearly 1000 concepts (Not saying that they are all quality ones) but come on, that guy is always searching a reason to hunt me down.

look pagliacci is known for being vocal with their negative opinions yea but if i put as much time and effort in to drawing beautifully painted concept art like pagliacci and noticed something this blatant i'd be incredibly frustrated to see my craft devalued like this and id've probably made a much less pleasant post
i dont think there's a witchhunt going on here with this one
jeez you can actually see some elements of the original photo in the concept
like you didnt even fully paint over it
Being a good drawer give you a moral immunity now ?
You're calling me a shitty and bad concepter due to one mistake.
You have been waiting for that moment since how long?
I did a mistake, what are you waiting more from me, to bend the knee and beg for pardon ?
While tracing isn't a good thing to do in-practice, using real-life inspiration is okay, in my opinion. Just be sure to state that you DID trace or heavily reference something. Just don't pass it off as something truly original, that could land you in a very bad place. Tracing things won't help you in the long run, it's probably best to not do it again.
Next time you use a real-life reference, look at the shapes and contours of the actual item and reflect upon how those shapes could be skewed a bit to fit more within the tf2 universe. It's probably best to add your own touches to it also, instead of it being 1:1 in terms of looks. Concepts looking identical to their real-life counterparts may work in some cases, but not always.
No need for everyone to be down each others' throat 24/7, with everything being considered. I see a select few of Emporium-goers looking for any chance to strike just because they like to be mean to others. So many newcomers in the item-making scene seem to stay quiet or have left because of this. Whatever happened to constructive critism and positive feedback?
It's just best to let someone know politely that tracing ain't the best thing to do if you're trying to improve and help them go down a better path instead.
I could be wrong, I dunno. I get afraid to post to the emporium myself nowadays, but this is just how I see it.
Does anybody ever fucking learn from all this drama?
Saddest part, this will just happen again and again. Morals aren't really much of a thing here.
Lets get this thread back on track shall we? Have some content.
Will be working on this Flamethrower with Neo.

Also here's another Minigun.

the flamethrower doesnt look like anything new imo, it kinda has the same palette and themeing as any other ordinary makeshift flamethrower, ingame and not.

any other suggestions? I dont want to break the greenish-brown palette of the gun. even the metal bits are gonna have a dark grey tone and slightly greened tint as in the concept. a mid-grey stone might look jarring attached to the rest

I mean, the silhouette is fairly unique I think, I also see no harm in following the makeshift themeing pattern in pyros flamethrowers.
Will maybe tinker with colours during the texture phase though.

yeah it is, it might help to use brighter metal tones and more varied colors. just changing the color on the gas pump to something like dark green could differentiate it more from the rest

Make the stone mossy? I mean theres a lot of rock variants so unless you explicitly dont want a rock...
now i have to learn how to model moss
Id have thought itd be more texture work, maybe a bit of a normal map + raised surfaces if you want some chunks
im gonna have IJCT draw over the concept whenever he decides to come online

Looks like you tried recompiling the scatergun's physics model instead of stetting the QC to use the new mode as a base for the physics file.

Why recompiling original physics model breaks its rotation anyway? Is that an issue with the compiler/decompiler?
Why recompiling original physics model breaks its rotation anyway? Is that an issue with the compiler/decompiler?
It's a problem caused by decompiling.
Would you look at that! Next week is "International Re-draw Your Old Concepts Week", according to the calendar I just pulled out of my ass. To celebrate, I redrew one of my old/first cosmetic concepts in Paint.NET.
