GIMP will apply the Alpha map to your texture, seeing it as Transparency. Unless you remove the alpha map (which would make the weapon super shiny), there's no way around it in GIMP as far as I am aware.

I've already tried uninstalling and completely deleting GIMP off of my computer and that didn't revert the problem.
