Must have missed that when looking through the topic.
I'm thinking Paint.Net might be a suitable replacement for any of the superior programs, but I'm not entirely sure yet. Was never good at graphic design...

There are alternatives to programs like Photoshop and the like (ie GIMP, in my experience) but Paint.NET, I doubt it.

Didn't think about GIMP for a moment. Actually, I forgot it existed.
Prehaps I shall look into it, and then vent my frustration in TF2 when I start to get angry with it.

GIMP's easy. I used it 4 years ago to start understanding graphics, then switching to Photoshop was easy.
I'm the opposite though - I vent my Tf2 frustration in Photoshop or Flash.

To each, their own, I suppose.
Now I just need to figure out the Face Poser.. Oh boy.
That's really nice, though what's with the huge black void above him...?
We need a better Baker Boy scout.

Mind if I use that one for a bit, then? I have a low brain capacity and thus I'm having trouble with the Face Poser. ;_;
Is anyone kind enough to put my name on my avatar in blue text ?
If so you will be credit to team

I made one out of boredom :U I have hi-res if you need it.
Aaaand there's our Mantorok one. Yep, the Eternal Darkness TF2 Roster of avatars is pretty much complete.
Someone now has to make a blu heavy SHOOP DA WHOOP
It has to be done.
Could someone please answer my question? People are saying they use Photoshop CS4 or something like that, I was wondering since I have Photoshop Element 4.0, is it possible to make these avatars with Photoshop Element 4.0?
How are you guys taking the pictures, Gmod?
Whoever rated me dumb, I meant the base pictures, not the damn effects.

ModelViewer. There are handy Faceposer and Ambient Lighting options in there.

For those that are struggling to get a good orange-yellow glow around their subjects, I made this.
While working this morning, I tried replicating the glow Valve used in their avatars. This is the closest I managed to get.
Make sure to use a very soft brush as a flat one will not work.
On the right you have an example of what it look like and at the bottom I took a part of my last avatar to show what it can look like.
I forgot, you MUST use black when painting if you want to use this, as any other colour will probably not work.
[Edit] Added example to get your attention
