Everybody in the games is whining about lack of aimless pubs existing
I'm really happy about this update, finally I've been able to play the 24 man chaos of TF2 but with everybody on my team TRYING, not just sitting AFK, building sentry nests on last etc etc
I really like the new system but the penalties need to go, asap. People still leave games and since you cannot join back / the game doesnt put people into these games, you are stuck in 12 vs 3 matches.

oh hell no.
I'm still convinced it was rigged.
I mean it went from 70/30 Heavy to 50/50 in 2 hours when the servers weren't even functioning last night.
I never thought I would miss autobalance. It would come in handy when half of the other team left
The TV has been solved!

Solution :[sp]Put the classes listed on the triggers in place and then shoot the plug. (Make sure they have the right team color or it wont work!)[/sp]

Neat. But there's still no way to enter the room without cheats right?
i told you guys
"this update's gonna be bad"
you ignored me and rode the overhyped train
now you're all saying
"aaaa dis update sucks"
no
it's just everyone that's actually enjoying the update isn't posting as much about it because.. they're busy enjoying the update

I don't think they should get rid of the leave penalty (discouraging ragequits is a good thing, and clearly the people who are quitting anyway don't care about the penalty), but it needs to be better about refilling the server. Perhaps they should add a "allow joining a game already in progress" option to the matchmaking screen that's on by default and prioritize filling games over making new ones.
I played a single game before the update hit and I got autobalanced
twice
after pushing or defending by myself
It can burn in hell for all I care, a much nicer solution would be a prompt appearing for all players on the larger team saying "X team is down X players! Would you like to swap over to balance the fight?"
It never ceases to amaze me how consistently Rick May can do Soldier after a decade.

Maybe just some dealys in updates of statistics.
Come on, everyone who hates this update. For me, what is important that the game is still alive! After so many years, and rather strong competition from the other games.
Competitive play makes me realize how much I dont like competitive play
2 scouts, 2 soldiers, a demoman and a medic every single round
It's like people who insist Fox no items is the true smash brothers
Competitive just feels soulless to me, and not even remotely fun
Not sure what I was excited for in this update
so is valve going to try to fix this mess today or let it rot into everyone's minds until monday?
so is valve going to try to fix this mess today or let it rot into everyone's minds until monday?
They usually do a bug fixing update on Friday.
...Let's hope it will fix more than just bugs :V

Thanks dude, just used this to help a bunch of people out on a server, best part is everyone was fucking up while we were doing it. The reaction to getting the achievement was fucking fantastic!
I recorded it and I'm processing it into a video right now.

*sigh* 9 players? All in correct spots? I have a feeling I'll never got this achievement now :suicide:
really all they need to do is remove the leaving penalty, make leaving not end the game, and allow people to join matches midway
The nice thing is, the Quick Play menu is still in the game and totally functional via a console command, it just doesn't load up Valve servers, so bringing that back shouldn't be too hard.
That seems to be the "big" issue reading various TF2 forums. People do not like the change to quick play at all.
Let's do a quick experiment here and remove all of casual play's bad features;
1) Scarp the abandonment penalties, obviously
2) Return to the drop in/drop out system to compensate for lost players
3) Re-add the map cycle, players can join whenever, no need for beginning/end
4) Improve the server selection menu; let us choose specific game modes/maps
5) Allow servers to reappear in the browser for more precise selection (ping, players)
6) Bring back the voting system; shown to be a nessecity for pubs
7) Another nessicary evil; autobalance needs to come back - no incentive to suffer on without it
And wow, would you look at that, under all that filth they're only Valve pubs with a pointless ranking system.
Anybody elses TF2 icon reverted back to the HL2 icon when in the taskbar?

the weird thing is the valve servers are still there, it just says they're on "maintenance"

Alternative methods to deal with this:
Just go to community servers and go to good to decent servers.
*sigh* 9 players? All in correct spots? I have a feeling I'll never got this achievement now :suicide:
If you're trying using the causal matchmaking, give up, use community servers. I image a few are already dedicated themselves to the achievement.
So is anyone else completely unable to join matches? I've started searching and waited for several minutes and nothing changed. I guess the game coordinator is going up and down?

If you want to have a team that offclasses, by all means queue up with a team that's prepared to play like that.
Just don't be surprised when you realize that the off-classes are individually not flexible enough to be run full-time. They still have their places, but with only 6 players you really want your team to make the most out of each man. And that means making sure they can move as a unit, cover their collective weaknesses, and be able to hold both an offensive and defensive presence.
The meta emerged as a result of trying to find a format that was fun, not the format existing and people deciding it was fun. The whole shtick where all players are competent and mobile fighters (and the medic) with a small enough team roster for each individual to matter significantly but not too significantly, and also for the ease of organizing a group of people to all coordinate their time to play together at once -- all of this was the emergent properties of people haphazardly trying random shit out until something stuck.

I think that is because they probably want some sort of failsafe so they can revert back to the old quickplay. I dearly hope that is the case

That might be why the old quick play menu still exists and is completely functional (minus the servers existing) as well.

With any luck we'll revert come Monday.
I spent 20 minutes waiting and wasn't matched into a single server. You can't even choose a single gamemode to play on, never mind a map. It's a joke.

Sounds like they're just add it to the drop down menu. Could be done today if thats the case.
Im p sure it's because the game coordinator is being funky
give it some time to iron out the issues

Not been the case for me
Had a brilliant game in beta a week or so ago, in which we had spies, heavies, engies and pyros at times.
I don't understand why they'd go and make a new area for Quick Play just a few months ago for silly game modes, only to trash it...
This whole thing is weird. Like casual was just thrown in at the last minute.
