:jawdrop: did they just
Aye, they did. They managed to pull their heads out of their collective asses and open their eyes.
I wasn't even that mad about casual mode but it is incredibly awesome to see Valve actually communicating with us and listening. More of this in the future please, Valve! It's really nice. :D
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=22797
THANK YOU VALVE (User was banned for this post ("Image macro" - Novangel))
Finally, we wanted to note that we value the role the community plays in the development of this game, and do in fact read all the feedback sent to us, as well as through reddit, the forums, streams, and more. We are not always as talkative as we perhaps should be, but we are listening.
That's pretty candid and self aware of them to admit, which I can appreciate. I'm really glad and appreciative that they made the blog post.
something I can't rationalize even remotely finish a game? Found some players you like? Well, the maps changing but you're all booted from the game for some insane reason
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/4ry0lz/casual_mode_update/d5515lh
But will players be able to join a casual game halfway through? Maybe a checkbox option to join a game in progress?

Actually, this already is in place -- the backend issues mentioned are interfering with it operating quickly. Ideally, open slots should be filled quickly.
Hopefully now the huge influx of negative reviews for the game will go down now.
Since this feed came so fast I think we should contribute more for the community than saying "lol, this update sucks" and actually think new ways to improve what we have
I'll start by saying why I think Casual can never replace Pubs: Pubs were a fun place to mess around in for however long then leave. Casual is 2-3 rounds then off to the next server. in Pubs you can meet and have fun with a variety of people in casual the time usually goes by too fast to actually talk to others besides what to do next and finally: in pubs your friends can join in whenever in casual they have to wait until you're done that was all my opinion, not fact.
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=22797
This is cool. Like I'm honestly surprised but don't forget that last time when Valve "talked to us about TF2 and listening to our feedback" was about 2 years ago (there were some minor things but I'm talking blog posts here) and that was when they told us about scrapped weapons I think. Again, this is great but it's possibly a very rare thing so don't get used to it.
Really I feel that what is called "Casual" is a misnomer. If anything it should be simply called "Matchmaking" because it really doesn't capture the same casual experience you'd get from an ad hoc game like before, plus it further delineates the difference between where the structured game rules begin and end.

Now if only they'd address those terrible nerfs. Its a start I guess.

:dance::smile::excited:Fuck yes http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=22797
I played 3 matches of casual matchmaking today (I wasn't able to yesterday before going to work since it was broken) and absolutely loved it. I hated playing on Valve servers before. They were a shit show of horrible players mixed in with super good players, people not playing the game seriously and other people playing seriously. I hated having to go on Valve servers to do contracts because I knew more likely then not I would have a bad time. The casual matchmaking was great for me today. It only took a few minutes to find a match and when we got in people were actually playing the objective. Such a huge improvment over old Valve pubs. The big things I didn't like (having to choose 2 modes, not getting at least a map vote before the round) looks like they're being addressed, as well as players not properly dropping in. I really feel like this is how TF2 is supposed to be played.
So you can come and go as you please from a game, select your map and basically turn casual mode into a quick play with a cosmetic level. That seems alright.

They should let you select maps for 6v6 too
Honestly I wonder if being able to select your map will hurt the matchmaking times. Maybe do a map vote between a couple of maps before the round starts. Load everyone into a GUI/menu, do the vote then load the winning map. Also I kinda would like to see penalties stay. People should be encouraged to stay for the entire round.
So you can come and go as you please from a game, select your map and basically turn casual mode into a quick play with a cosmetic level. Some people may also miss joining the next map on a server with the same people, but honestly, I'm willing to overlook that and give this new system a shake now that they've basically fixed the other relevant problems.
Has anybody else still not gotten their Pass Time Beta Pin? Im pretty sure i played it during the beta but i never got one.
Fourth, Casual Mode levels. Levels are a cosmetic feature that show how much you've played. They can never be lost, and they do not affect matchmaking. We did a poor job of communicating that Casual Mode Levels are in no way similar to Competitive Mode Ranks (which do affect matchmaking, and can be lost).
If I'm reading this right, Casual matchmaking is completely random and not sorted by skill level. I was hoping that Casual would introduce a higher level of play in between random pubs and competitive.
I'm positively surprised, I didn't expect anything to happen, not to mention this soon. Then again the backslash was huge. Hopefully this should fix most issues.
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=22797
That was Jill writing that according to having also posted the same thing on Reddit. Gotta say, major props. I think this is the first time in several years now that a Valve employee actually came out and said something. No lie, I don't think that's happened since the game's gone F2P back in 2011.
I wonder what queue times will be like on maps like Egypt will be lol
I just read the latest TF2 post. I'm surprised they actually listened to us and did something about Casual Mode :toot:
Wow, this update gave us honest to god communication. This just outweighs all the cons I've found in this update, this has been truly what we have been waiting for.
I shouldn't post this while we're all hyping about communication, but medic's new buff counts the highest speed reached and stays there. If you heal a charging demo and keep your beam on him you move that fast indefinitely
you know shit is serious when a tf2 blogpost isn't trying to be comical and filled with 4 paragraphs of offtopic comedy comparable to shitposting this is so revitalizing
