• Major Update Speculation V33 - Tomorrow For Sure

Pyro is winning by a 6% lead. Despite the fact that I'm pretty sure r/tf2 and here on facepunch had tons of "VOTE HEAVY" propaganda everywhere. I think it's because most people who voted team heavy haven't been playing much of the update in comp and casual servers, while I've seen plenty of team pyro supporters playing a LOT of comp and casual. Maybe that's just me seeing that.
Pyro does deserve an update more than Heavy though. Heavy is in need of new weapons and playstyles more than Pyro, but the Pyro's core mechanics are literally broken, his primary weapon does not even function properly. Heavy needs new weapons more but Pyro needs a rework of his entire class. Though I still think it's completely fucking ridiculous that we have vote for which class receives balance changes, balance changes are not content, having everything function and work properly is the bare minimum of what you should expect out of a game trying to be taken seriously as a competitive esport.

I'm in agreement on this, and this video pretty much shares some of my reasoning as to why personally. I want to see heavy changed too keep in mind, I just want Pyro's more.
I think it's more balanced for medical mode tbh *medieval, I rly hate autocorrect
Valve stopped caring about the balance of Medieval Mode when they made the One Thousand and One Demoknights set
If you listen to the fully charged podcast vod you can see the things valve was trying to do in the update regarding balance. Some things were changed because of comp input (cozy camper), some things were experiments to see what would happen, and some things weren't changed (DDS) because they didn't want to change too much in one time/didn't have a good alternative/etc.
Didn't want to change too much at one time? What in the blazes are they thinking? We only get balancing every six months, and that's far too long a duration to have to wait for the chance that something problematic is addressed. This is the very definition of inanity.
Clearly you've never charged full tilt into a group of enemies, Buffalo Steak'd while wielding the Fists of Steel.
And anyone that's competent will tear you to shreds within moments. So you're right, I've never attempted such a feat since I don't have a death wish.
It gets worse. Assuming you were able to rush the first cap, should you take too long it becomes pointless to even try taking the second cap. All you need to do is wait to lose the round and go all-out defense for one-two minutes and you win.
That's not true. If the enemy runs out of stopwatch time, they still have more time (the standard round time) to cap second. Stopwatch means it's always best to move as far forward as you can.

Ultimately it winds up neutering the mid-tier Snipers the most because they exist in an environment that's too chaotic for hardscoping to be a worthwhile tactic since their teams won't cover them as well as a comp team would. I would agree with the reasons but they really undercut the middle-class players with the implementation. I refuse to believe that they didn't have a good idea for the DDS. Or at the very least, were content with its current iteration. It shits all over the Sniper v Sniper matchup which is one of the touchiest ones in the game and will generally decide which team needs to fall back into cover. Hell, even when it was simply +hp it was really dangerous for the matchup because a small amount of overheal would be enough to push both snipers out of quickscope range but players considered this fine because it required 2 players in order to utilize, one of which doesn't want to be anywhere near the other sniper's line of sight. The DDS is a remnant of a disgusting era of TF2 balance where unseen items were allowed to grant invisible buffs. The only thing that kept the Croc set in check was the fact that it couldn't deal headshots itself -- but that was still annoying because it forced all other snipers to fight on the Croc's terms where it had an advantage. A lot of negative flak regarding balance changes could have been mitigated by clearly communicating which items were changed or not changed and for which reasons. A lot more people would be more tolerable of controversial changes had they known they were basically put into a trial period where Valve is just seeing if it works. And a lot more on-edge changes would be opening up discussion between the collective community to communicate where any controversy is falling through and failing to meet the spectrum of the playerbase as opposed to any of the polar extremes. (such as the above mentioned Cozy Camper change).

Balancing in this game needs to be done at a faster pace.
I'm pretty sure now every hat can be as long as it isn't discontinued/promotional and is craftable. I think it's safe to say that any cosmetics that you can get from random crafting can be unboxed and therefor strange. Plus a few exceptions that we already know of like the robotic boogaloo ones.

http://frompyrowithlove.com It's not the issue of new weapons or class balances, but an entire reworking of Pyro's core mechanics that have been broken for years.
I'm trying to think of balance changes I actually like from this update. This is the list I got: Spy moves faster All Mediguns match speed yeah thats about it.
Clearly you've never charged full tilt into a group of enemies, Buffalo Steak'd while wielding the Fists of Steel.
Considering you'll be taking +125% damage against melee, a soldier can kill you with his stock melee just as fast as you can kill him. Faster if you've taken chip damage.
Last round we got that one Tough Break KotH map and I experenced a weird bug where I couldn't upgrade my teleporter entrance after placing it. It didn't even register that I was hitting anything when I swung my JaG/Gunslinger at it. Luckily I could still upgrade the exit at least. and no, it wasn't because of metal, I had full 200 metal in stock.
I'm trying to think of balance changes I actually like from this update. I hope they don't nerf it.
I've watched VNN last video on the update and did not understand why Tyler said that just one class is going to receive an update. TF2 blogpost on day 2: "But! Okay, both of them might get new Class Updates at some point. In fact, it's highly likely they both will." I know that Tyler read this forum ,so ,VNN could you explain yourself ?
The new Overdose is fun. It was already the best syringe gun, now it's even better. I hope they don't nerf it.
The manmelter is really reliable now, extinguish is more rewarding now, you can choose between getting HP or crits.

Y'know if this game wanted to be taken more seriously as a competitive game you think they'd give us the option to vote to disable random crits in casual and maybe even class limits too.
Y'know if this game wanted to be taken more seriously as a competitive game you think they give us the option to vote to disable random crits in casual and maybe even class limits.
Why? casual is for fun competitive is for seriousness, crits already disabled Just choose what you want according to what you feel like playing in an arbitrary day
Y'know if this game wanted to be taken more seriously as a competitive game you think they give us the option to vote to disable random crits in casual and maybe even class limits too.
yes constantly changing rulesets in 12v12 will really make it be taken seriously as a competitive game
Can Pyro also get a new Viewmodel? Pyro and Medic pretty much use the same ones [T]http://i.imgur.com/j5eij0M.png[/T]
The manmelter is really reliable now, extinguish is more rewarding now, you can choose between getting HP or crits.
I'm pretty sure putting teammates out with the melter gives you HP regardless
Can Pyro also get a new Viewmodel? Pyro and Medic pretty much use the same ones [T]http://i.imgur.com/j5eij0M.png[/T]
hands are hands, a lot of mercs share the whole 5 fingers thing
yes constantly changing rulesets in 12v12 will really make it be taken seriously as a competitive game
the first part of his post is odd but a vote option is a decent idea.
I wonder how long it will take the Heavy or Pyro Update to come out, when the voting will stop, etc. By now probably 75% (number courtesy of my ass) of people that were going to vote have voted, so whoever is winning now is probably going to be the winner.
Why? casual is for fun competitive is for seriousness, crits already disabled Just choose what you want according to what you feel like playing in an arbitrary day
Crits are the worst original design choice of the game and if the majority of a sever does not want to have to deal with them I think they should have that choice.
Hm. but a Strange Champ Stamp was unboxed So there's some exceptions. I'm just hoping we get a Strange MK-50, not gonna lie.
Based on my sample unboxing, you can get any cosmetic that is either craftable or from a non-tiered crate. I would have said crafts only, but I got a strange Battery Canteens, which was only available from the robocrate. I've also gotten stuff from the EOTL crate which aren't craftable either.
Crits are the worst original design choice of the game and if the majority of a sever does not want to have to deal with them I think they should have that choice.
I agree with the voting system, but why would that change the competitive look of the game, random crits only takes place on casual.
