Thunder Mountain still lasts way too long. It's part of the reason I don't queue for Payload. There's like a 50/50 shot I either end up in a 5-10 minute game, or a 30-45 minute game, and I don't want to make that gamble.
I enjoy how serious pubs are now. The matches are very intense, and I really have to step up my game against all the new and improved teams. Part of me misses how casual Valve servers used to be, though. I don't think I'll be able to gimmick anymore without bringing the whole team down.
Thanks to the new matchmaking system I'm having fun on TF2 again, despite still having things to improve, this update was a step to the right direction.

I've been in Payload matches that were about 40-50 minutes long thanks to it. Attack/Defend goes even longer than that. 5CP is already stalemate-hell. So playing it first to 3 wins just makes it take over an hour.

I've had some really fun balanced games yesterday. Players have begun to rank up so the playing field has evened out somewhat meaning no more professional freshmeat players who should be ranked a whole lot higher.

If there were no stopwatch mode you'd play two rounds of these maps until the game timer runs out. Stopwatch mode can only end a game earlier than the game timer, not later. 5CP should definitely not be first to three in casual, though.

the shots also get ruined by teammates even at point-blank. it's terrible and the huge hitboxes (arguably the only redeemable feature) is gone. you can easily duck under most shots now. Is anyone else not consistently gaining XP? In some games, I'll get XP and in some games I won't, win or loss.

I think it's kind of stupid, but hopefully they will change those stipulations in the future. Also, sometimes its just slow and doesn't count exp until a while after the match or until you restart the game.
I join games literally at the beginning and I still don't get xp. Which sucks
Stopwatch mode is fine but i guess the thought of playing in maps with multiple stages is what tires me a bit. Of course you'll finish faster if you succesfully defend 1st stage and beat it but finishing 3 stages + more 3 stages can become longer than your usual quickplay\community server game. It's probably preference anyway.

There's a reason why competitive attack/defense maps were condensed into a singular stage. It's all about time efficiency. A compromise in favor of being mindful of player time would be to only play a single stage of the map, but that has some implications that can turn out sloppy if not handled just right.

So when are we getting map selection? I'm trying to do the achievement on Brickyard, but not only is it impossible without people willing to help, you have to end up on the right map. It's very annoying. I'm sure a lot of people aren't playing on Valve servers because of that, and it would be a shame if people missed out on making a difference.

Does anyone know why valve servers are in maintenance , is it realeted to those backend issues post-launch that they mentioned in the blog post ?

I might be late to this, but MvM matchmaking is messed up. Noone automatically joins games in progress.
That's usual when the gc is down. Just played, people connect just fine when it's working.
