Imagine if the update actually went live on TF's birthday. Which is on 24th. August. Yeah. That'd be just Valve fucking with us real hard.
They can't fuck with the TF2 community, they would be pedophiles. Also they wouldn't release the summer update that late. The "Summer" part of the update would last like 5 more days.
Yes, but not On Demand, which is what im talking about.
As a Medic, depending on your teammates to help you accomplish things isn't exactly out of the ordinary.

And we've never had one, except for 2013 content pack and Steam sale-related. Man, look at DotA 2. They've changed the name of their seasonal championships from "Spring Major" to "Manila Major" because it was held in June. And yet no, it's not an August update.
The update is coming next week. Valve is too busy with the Cologne 2016 Major right now.

TF2 is so sporadic I don't think we can really use anything we've gotten in the past to try to set a pattern. The only real things we can confirm are Scream Fortress and Smissmass updates.
The update is coming next week. Valve is too busy with the Cologne 2016 Major right now.
Dota and CS:GO majors are done by third-party companies (ESL in case of Cologne 2016), not by valve themselves.
The update is coming next week. Valve is too busy with the Cologne 2016 Major right now.
i don't think all of valve is working on that
Call me overly optimistic if you must, but I think it's pretty obvious that the update was supposed to come out last week, so unless they've found the buggiest bug that ever bugged, there's approximately a 103% chance the update comes out this week.
If Valve is going to charge for competitive passes, they better offer some incentive like a hat or skin.
What if buying a competitive pass unlocks a medal slot for your mercenaries? Y'know, players that play competitive always have a bunch of medals, but 80% of them prefer to wear normal cosmetics. That would be neato in my opinion.

Valve seemed pretty serious about shipping it last week, doing a stress test, putting up the taunt videos and doing an update on Saturday but they couldn't quite get it finished on time so they decided to wait until after the sale was over.
Remember the UFO posters? I won't let myself get fooled again.

I'm not keen on saying bold things like this but a huge part of me says that this update is today. I could only get excited for today for external reasons. I'm really thinking it's today. Anyway yeah. Honestly I hope the contracts in this update aren't only usable on comp. It would be a huge turn off for me and a good few people if that's the case.
If Valve is going to charge for competitive passes, they better offer some incentive like a hat or skin.
You'll have access to an entirely new gamemode, what other incentive do you need?
You'll have access to an entirely new gamemode, what other incentive do you need?
You have to make profit, did you learn anything from trading? :v:
Contracts and Achievements are going to be very detrimental to matchmaking if they involve any specific kinds of goals, such as "Get X kills as Spy through Ambassador headshots in competitive mode." There's gonna be so many people that will just ignore the objective if that is the case.

Whenever there is a battle pass in dota 2, there is always one guy who drops everything and tries to do his quest.
i'm really fucking hoping there's no contracts in competitive
Contracts in comp are completely acceptable if they dont have gimmicky tasks, a simple "WIN ROUND OF PAYLOAD etc." would do.
Where did everyone get the idea that contracts would be active in comp? Literally no proof or hint at all. All I know is that there was an option to turn off the contract HUD.
Contracts in comp are completely acceptable if they dont have gimmicky tasks, a simple "WIN ROUND OF PAYLOAD etc." would do.
The thing is, if its not something gimmicky then the quest wouldn't be fun to complete and if its something gimmicky then some of your teammates will want you dead. Contracts should stay in pubs.
Teamfortress.com was just down, had a annotation thingy so i got a heart attack.
Where did everyone get the idea that contracts would be active in comp? Literally no proof or hint at all. All I know is that there was an option to turn off the contract HUD.
Afaik there is code hinting towards contracts in MM.

Instead of contracts, buying a 'ticket of entry' for a seasonal tourney might be cool. You play X games a week of a specific ruleset in competitive and get stuff as you play matches and increase in rank (you get matched up against players who are doing about as well as you are ideally). The best players get limited cool stuff that shows off their performance (ie a special weapon skin for their class of choice only obtainable from that tournament).

But knowing Valve's current trend, they'd probably manage to slap tiered loot on that, and oh boy, wouldn't that be fun.

Oh wait thats what contract coins are
