I'm really glad to see we finally got a new comic and some new stranges for once. I can't wait to see those update notes though :excited:.
I'd love if Valve reintroduced the old mechanic for the Sandvich where you can throw it down and instantly restore health by touching it.
Maybe even introduce it as a new lunchbox item altogether.
that feature turned the sandvich into an instant medium health kit that doesn't need Heavy to stop to use
I'm glad it's gone, that was dumb
It's a complete cop-out though. There are no new weapons coming with this update, only eventually* when Valve gets around to making them.
*not much hope of them coming anytime soon with the TF2 team's track record.
not only they're clearly mentionning a new round of class updates, but the whole comic revolves around heavy wanting new guns. And he's clearly holding that fence door in a shield-like manner. Doesn't take a genius.
What the hell are they holding the notes back for, surely they've had them ready for at least a week
At his core, the Heavy's main job is to soak up damage for teammates while using his minigun to kill enemies, or keep them away with the threat of death. Of course he's going to need the healing class to keep him going.
Remember when Ludmilla was on the chopping block as an idea to counteract how useless Heavy would be without a Medic?
Then they realized how stupidly strong Heavy was with both Ludmilla and a Medic.
The only way you're going to feasibly get some sort of longevity buff for Heavy (such as healing on-hit or healing on-kill) is if it hinders Medic's ability to heal him efficiently in combat, and that's not something that Medics like to deal with if the Backscratcher is any indication.
Soooo, where's the update?
i just want heavy to be more than a meat shield, he's the cover guy, give him what he fully deserves
Any tank class in anything ever is going to rely on healers.
Tell that to any tank from Overwatch.
How is it baseless? We've gotten very few major updates over the past few years, fewer still introduced new weapons to the game. Even the bloody comic isn't done yet.
And you still don't know what's all being changed and included in the update.

At the very least wait until we have all the details.
Soooo, where's the update?
hour or two
hour or two
And for what reason must we wait even longer?
Perhaps tank was the wrong word to use, but he's commonly used for pushing enemies away since he is seen as a pretty serious threat, depending on which classes he encounters.
Most classes would stay away if a Heavy came rushing towards them, especially if he is being healed by a Medic.
He's a sentry with legs. He's area denial so long as you're in his line of sight.
Such needless (and baseless) pessimism.
Its july and we're just now getting matchmaking, something we knew about last year from a company who has done this sort of thing before.
Any pessimism about an update about promised future updates is entirely justified.
And for what reason must we wait even longer?
Last minute fixes
I'm actually really on the fence with this. I love both classes, and i seriously wanted to go Team Heavy, but at the same time, Pyro could REALLY use the help first.
But i also want Heavy to feel the love too! Who do i choose?!
that feature turned the sandvich into an instant medium health kit that doesn't need Heavy to stop to use

I agree it was bad for the sandvich but I think it would work on like the Dalokah's bar. Even if it was just like, 25 health, having that instantly would be very helpful.
seems there will certainly be more than just balancing
That could be where they put the notes and then the bottom image.
Tell that to any tank from Overwatch.
Sure, I will. And they'll agree.

Your move, pyro mains.

Heavy. We must crush baby man skulls and give the Heavy some much needed love
It's probably that there are issues but Valve saw that people were desperate, so they released "most" of the Update and left the rest for quick-fixing.
How nice.
What the hell are they holding the notes back for, surely they've had them ready for at least a week
To keep people talking and build hype.

That's not the point I'm making. If they're going to announce new weapons, it would be good if they would actually announce them. Being told they're coming eventually doesn't do much, we would have inevitably gotten some new ones anyway.
And you still don't know what's all being changed and included in the update.

I'd imagine something as important as a new weapon being added would have been mentioned alongside the taunts and crates.
To keep people talking and build hype.
Considering that they listed the taunt videos an hour before they put up the day 2 page, it definitely seems likely they're trying to space things out for extended discussion and hype.
I kind of want to see Propaganda poster contests again like the Demoman and Soldier WAR update from back in the day...
I'd say Heavy deserves the weapons first.
I don't think Valve would do this:
Changelog:
>Added new weapon "Beforeburner"
Stats
They would show it off with the taunts as something new.
Im so hyped im ready valve
:joy::joy::joy:

The problem with this is that there's not much to talk about without the update notes.
Heavy is linear, and easy to understand. By design, he's supposed to be easy for anyone to pick up, play, and do okay with. That's the intended appeal, to wit.
The problem is that the game got a lot faster over time, and he couldn't keep up. They upped his 'speed' and it was a bit too much, it gave him a little too much effect for too little effort. Within the scope of having the minigun, mostly ineffectual melee (no matter how entertaining I find it to present day to indulge in this), and a choice between a handy but underwhelming gun and some random consumable, I don't see much space for improvement without tipping things towards being too strong for too little.
A part of me wonders if maybe it might be time to give him a fourth weapon slot that is dedicated to a lunchbox and/or team support item, as the new baseline to work with. Make it so that Heavy's game is not about speed and mobility, but power and utility.
That's how I might approach it, anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve decided to do that for at least a few other classes, to help the specialists keep up with the dominant generalists.
