As much as I want heavy to get new weapons and stuff, I'll probably play pyro. PURELY because I want this to feel like a competition and not genocide.
Actually, if you look at weapons, you'll notice that both Pyro and Heavy have gotten the same number of weapons since 2011: 6. Both classes got their last weapon in the same update (Smissmas 2014) and their second to last weapons in the same update (Triad pack in 2012). The last time Heavy got a primary was 2012 (Huo long heater) and the last time Pyro got a primary was 2011 (Phlogistinator). In terms of overall weapons, Heavy has 18 unique weapons and Pyro has 18 unique weapons. So there's no argument about Heavy needing more weapons before Pyro. If anything, you can argue Pyro needs weapons more since he has one less primary than Heavy, and has a one year longer primary drought than Heavy. EDIT: Correction. Pyro has actually gotten 9 weapons since 2011, and Heavy has gotten 6. Still, if you go back to 2012, Heavy has gotten 12 weapons and Pyro has gotten 12 weapons.

Come to think of it, I doubt that the series will ever be finished. Part of me thinks that they're just either going to extend it forever and/or abandon it after enough time has passed.

They probably have the weapons ready for release and they just want us to have some fun

Reading the description for the new class crates - putting every functionally unique weapon into them - I wonder if some time was taken up in re-negotiating a few contracts to ensure they could do that with some of them (RIFT stuff, Grordbort goodies).
