They'll release the first half of the patch notes later today and then the rest tomorrow.

afaik they save everything in a multiday update to be released on teh final day but I could be wrong
What time is it at Valve? It's 1 am here and I remember waiting until 4 am or something for some updates
It's 3PM at Valve.
Give it 3 hours.
It's 3PM at Valve.

Given the size of this update, they might stay later to finish it up before pushing it out, too, if they're not just waiting for a certain time to upload it
Imo there's no goddamn point in doing a multi day update if you aren't going to give the information we actually want until the patch goes live
Of course they would find a way to be stupid on launch day, I shouldn't have expected anything less

You speak as if you're familiar with releasing multi-day updates. Care to elaborate on your extensive knowledge of the best update release tactics?

Multi-day content with new content every day.
Multi-day content with new content every day.
What makes this inherently better than bulk release on the final day? Wouldn't final day release grab everyones attention, while multi day release spreads it out and complicates the entire updates into subcategories? Isn't every day still part of the same update, therefore making a single release more sensical?
Wouldn't, from an attention (or 'hype') standpoint, it make more sense to keep people involved and curious up until the final release moment?
I just want some freakin patch notes.
Some guy made a post earlier talking about just calling this update "bigger than the Uber Update" so that the community can finally call something "bigger than the Uber Update".
This doesn't come close to the scale of the Uber Update, imo. I'm not talking about the quality of the content in the update here, just the scale.
I just want some freakin patch notes.
They are comming slowly but surely.

You should work for Valve. You seem so sure in how multi-day updates should work.

Lest I recall, the two most anticipated things about this update have been the major balance changes we were told to expect and matchmaking. Matchmaking- sure, matchmaking looks cool. Love it.
But after a fucking month of waiting, I want to know how the classes are changing. I want to know the real, long-term impacts this update is going to have on my favorite game. We've all been waiting here, in this very thread, for weeks, to get that information.
And instead of just giving it to us with everything else with the blogpost, they've arbitrarily decided that the best thing to do here is to hold off and fucking tease the most important information about the update, so we're waiting for it until it hits tonight, instead of just giving it to us.
And, at least to me, that's goddamn infuriating. Everyone knows this update was supposed to come out sooner. Everyone was waiting.
And you manage to make me do more in the last stretch? What the fuck?
You should work for Valve. You seem so sure in how multi-day updates should work.
You don't have to have a concrete opinion about which is better to be able to acknowledge how valve is thinking when they form an update plan.
I just hope that the update comes out in the next our so I have at least SOME time to play it before work...
Multi-day content with new content every day.
Let's take this update as an example:
A person sees first day of the update and decides to buy a competitive pass for himself.
Second day comes out and there's a fun contract and also a war update wih a bunch of cool stuff and not said person may feel dumb that he bought the pass instead.

And you will receive it. I don't understand why it's such an issue that information is released with the update rather than a few hours prior. It's not like they'd change anything within that timeframe based on community response in such a small window of feedback.
We all want to see the changes. I'd like to see them early too. But i'm not going to pitch a fit because they aren't releasing it yet, because it doesn't matter. If they aren't releasing patch notes yet it's probably because they're still reviewing them all.
What the hell are you guys complaining? We ARE going to get an update that promises to change some of the classes that we most complain, better yet, we ARE going to participate in this decision; with bullets, so just " think bullets™ ".

Key word here.

impatience is a disease that spreads quickly

The point of staggering it in a drip fashion is so that you control how the community discusses things. Smacking them with everything all at the same time will focus on the big things, meanwhile the smaller updates will go drowned out for a few days while people calm down about the big things.
Remember that the community extends beyond Facepunch, Reddit, and the Steam forums. As far as most of the community is concerned, this is to gear them up for what's about to happen rather than to dangle some anticipation over their noses.
Yes it sucks that we are here waiting for something that has already been delayed numerous times, yes it sucks that most of the stuff that's happened is stuff that we already knew. But remember that we aren't the entire community, we're actually in a minority that just happens to have a high concentration of people who have an impact (most notably the item contributors) and rather good moderation that weeds out the run-of-the-mill shitposters pretty regularly.
It's not a nice reality but it's something we haven't come to terms with fully: it's not our reality.
impatience is a disease that spreads quickly
But kills no one.
EDIT: Misinterpreted that somehow- WAITING and patience kill no one. A little more time isn't going to hurt.

It's kind of annoying waiting for the patch notes 3 hours after everything else has been revealed. It's not like they aren't ready, they wouldn't change anything a few hours before the update hits.
What the hell are you guys complaining? We ARE going to get an update that promises to change some of the classes that we most complain, better yet, we ARE going to participate in this decision; with bullets, so just " think bullets™ ".
I think what most people are annoyed with is that we don't know when these class updates will be happening, we just know they are going to happen. But we don't know if we're going to get one within the next few months, at Christmas, or even next year's Summer update.
Key word here.
You know, I think opinions don't reach people very well when people add insults to them and stuff.
I just realized that the lowered weapon models will probably "fix" the stuff that's broken on high FOVs by moving it out of view.
No more Engineer arms with holes in them and no more Spy arm coming from the side of the screen.
Day 1:Meet your match
Day 2: Meat or Match
Day 3: Meet your Patch
I think they will wait until very soon before the update is released to also release the notes so people have something to do/discuss while the update downloads, which might take longer due to server load.
