Major Update Speculation V31: Gamechanging Edition

Instead of posting "upcoming all-class", could the contributors just keep quiet till it gets in the game so that r/tf2 doesn't know, maybe private message other contributors to tell what is "upcoming hats update"?
Just don't make them all class. Each class have their own identity, the fedora fit well with the spy behavior and identity. Safe N Sound fit well for the engineer because well.. that running jokes about a workers with headphone working without hearing the funny weird thing happening next to him in every comedy movie?
The fancy fedora, yes should be spy only. The Fed-Fighting Fedora is a scout hat, and part of the babyface's blaster set. Although it might be OK on other classes, the bullet holes insinuate that the wearer was quick enough to dodge the polices' shots, making it fit scout's gameplay style most of all. maybe it could work on spy since robbing banks is probably his forté and evading enemies is a necessary skill to be effective.
What do these server changes entail or is it not known to the public yet?
Not to be an ass, but you probably could have worked a bit more on it when making it all-class, rather than just rescaling it side-ways until it stops clipping with the player's head. Just looks weird on most classes when seen from the front...

"He didn't bribe me, he just tipped me ;D"
he tipped me after the hat became all class, i don't give a shit where the money came from, that's his business. i only accepted because i'm not doing well financially, plus it's awfully nice of someone to do that. yeah i'm broke but i'm not desperate enough to turn to bribes.

i only shared it with one person and it got posted everywhere afterwards, and got pretty disappointed about it.
i mean most of you guys know me well enough to know i'm not that big of an asshole, and people start rumors which i gotta deal with that make me look even more of a bigger asshole. i just wanna look like a massive shitposter on the internet, not some corrupt dick
can i please cry myself to sleep now

It's hard to keep things quiet with this thing that basically announces whenever you update your item.

Fair enough but to be honest I think only profit traders with no life will notice the little change without any announcement, just always lurking in the workshop for an updated item for profit.

The bright RED and BLU texture bothers me. I hope this is a joke.

Rule breaking server owners will have a harder time, possibly allowing Valve to put a bit more trust into community servers as a whole.
This change will allow us to have a greater level of confidence in game servers, by making it easier to revoke access for bad actors and better tying game servers to their owners. The increased persistence gives us many more opportunities to assign trust to community servers, and to provide them access to features that would otherwise be too open for abuse. It also provides a much better mechanism for dealing with abuse than the current IP-ban system that is both less effective and more painful for server providers that share IPs between clients.
We will have more information once we are ready to begin rolling out these features, but I wanted to send this heads up such that current admins and server providers can look into integrating this support into their setups.
Finally, Valve is getting around to addressing languishing community servers. Now all they have to do is deliver a fantastic update and my faith in them may just be restored.
Question is, does sv_pure 0 break their rules?
Question is, does sv_pure 0 break their rules?
No.. Sv_pure 0 is the default. That would be an interesting rule if it existed.
Finally, Valve is getting around to addressing languishing community servers. Now all they have to do is deliver a fantastic update and my faith in them may just be restored.
Problem is, they did not say a word about making quickplay defaulting to all servers, allowing contracts on them, or anything similar. It's a promising step from them, but it does not mean anything positive will come out of it.
The HLDS email seems to be hinting at a return of community servers on Quickplay. And I'm all for it.
Yeah that email makes me optimistic that they're really going to try and do something to help community servers, which is a good thing after they nearly killed them off. B4nny did say that the community aspect of the update was pretty big in his tweets so hopefully this is something very good for community server owners.
This is also further proof that Valve is listening to the community since it's been a very common complain that Valve killed off community servers.

The wording heavily implies that that is indeed what they intend to do.
I have no problems with fairly generic hats becoming all-class but making items from sets into all-class ones just doesn't sit right with me, unless you're planning to make every item in said set multi/all-class or if the set is already good enough to work with other classes
With all the model updates lately, I wonder if Elbagast's unique rockets could finally get in if it were resubmitted now. Especially with the Air Strike having its own unique rockets.
Pretty sure Valve rejected that since he can't really receive credit for it
Right now the item creator's only real avenue of announcing something is via their workshop page, and who checks those besides the ones looking for profit.
Does the responsibility for being aware of the value of your items lie with the item creator? What if the item creator is the one looking to make bank on the update?

It's hard to keep things quiet with this thing that basically announces whenever you update your item.
I attempted to keep Univ. Translator going all class quiet, but in a naive stupid moment I put change notes on the workshop update log. I took them down not more than 5 minutes later, it was too late. Someone had already wrote an article on it on some trade site and posted about it on reddit. All this for a hat that no one even really likes. It would be possible to almost hide updates, you could undo all the workshop tags manually but thats extra effort.
Here's a story for you guys about the Universal Translator going all-class (which was mostly since there isn't anything specifically "Demoman-only" about it since the rest of the set was not accepted into the game for whatever reason), just so that you can get an idea of how thirsty these traders are.
I'm listed as the first contributor for the item despite not submitting it directly (probably due to it sorting the unicode in a way that I am at the top of the list). Thus, even though I didn't make the update, people automatically assume it was me. In fact, I actually first learned that it was updated through these people.
I got no less than 4 dozen people adding me in a handful of the first few days to confirm that it was becoming an all-class misc. At least one third of these had at least two unusual universal translators in their backpack. After 3 days of these messages, I got a bit cynical with one who chatted with me for a bit and had four, jokingly saying to him that I'd call him out on what I knew his reasoning for asking was but also stated that I was aware that it was going to happen either way, eventually. He screencapped part of our chat out of context as verification to use as an advertisement on his outpost trade. It got so bad with the invites that I swapped out one of the profile boxes on my steam page to an explanation of exactly what they wanted to inquire on and that I had no control over whether it was a hat or a misc and why it was even a hat in the first place. I'm still getting invites.
At first, I assumed that it was partially because they just wanted an all-class unusual. That much is true. What dawned on me though is that they were specifically asking if it was a misc because there are very few unusual miscs, let alone all-class, and that making it a misc would thus make it's price skyrocket as an unusual due to being stackable with unusual hats for multiple effects.
Thus, now that it is all-class, I'm now getting adds and comments, despite what I still have up on my profile, because people want me to now make it a misc instead of a hat equip region because just being all-class was not enough for profiteering, despite it clipping with many of the hats and I explicitly stating this on my profile. It almost makes me want to set my profile to private if it wasn't for the fact that I actually do stuff like trading and whatnot and thus would have to give up on that if I did so.
I'm now getting adds and comments, despite what I still have up on my profile
Do what I do, only talk to traders via Trump quotes
Can we just stop making items all-class. Just makes them way less unique than when they were on a single or select few classes.
weird, the patriot peak was a massively popular soldier hat and when I publicly announced the update I got so few adds or even regards about it.
maybe that's cause everyone knew

Oh, did you make the Patriot Peak? I couldn't tell.

It now makes me unhappy because I had some good ideas for Universal translator loadouts some time ago if it was on other classes, and I had a Universal Translator but for the life of me I cannot remember where it's gone and now I have to pay out the nose to find one.
That reminds me of one day when I've got a bunch of comments asking for making one of my items all-class, but then other guy explained why it happened.

Yeah I'm kinda bummed out too. I was saving up for a Nebula one but I guess that's not gonna happen now.
Why the fuck would someone make an items obviously designed for a specific class all-class. The Patriot and Breakneck Baggies are already super pushing it.
As with many things on Steam and in general, people will exploit and abuse a certain feature or development (in this case Valve's and item creators' willingness to make and accept improvements to cosmetics) to the point where it all starts to become a mockery. Not saying we're there yet, of course, but...
Remember those Steam Christmas Sale events from years ago that could net people free items and games and the like? The Coal and such? Yeah, every single event back then, certain people found ways to exploit or rig the system and ended up hoarding most of the rewards/goodies, profiting in the process and eventually turning Valve off from any such events in the future.
In comparison, all of the mini-games and 'event' features in recent Steam winter or summer sales have been weak and boring in comparison. A minority of greedy/calculating users ended up screwing themselves and everyone else out of future events like that.
Why the fuck would someone make an items obviously designed for a specific class all-class. The Patriot and Breakneck Baggies are already super pushing it.
Don't get me started on this - no offense to the author, but I literally cannot tell which team some of the classes belong to when they're wearing that. A Demo with the Baggies loses his team-colored pants that are the primary source of visual team identification, and if they also have a shield and a large sword, the team-colored sleeves are also obscured in certain poses/animations. I've been running into BLU and RED Demoknights that are almost completely indistinguishable from each other for me...
The Breakneck Baggies were such a cheap update, ugh. The trousers themselves are the same colour for each class, despite it really messing up the Demo, Pyro and Spy's team colouring and I'm pretty sure no work was put into the waistband either. It clips badly with the Sniper's vest and Engineer's ammo pouch.
Have items that have been updated ever been updated again?

Fucking hell, he could've at least updated the model for it to make it not look like it pre-dates Quake 3

Huh, there is a Duck-Easteregg on the new Case. TIL.

I think it's supposed to be the shape of a flower, but it ends up looking more like duck feet, I guess.
