I want to travel back in time and show it to all the people who were worried about hats when the Sniper vs Spy update came out.
Imagine if someone from the future showed us a screenshot of TF2 5 years from now.
All this talk about unusuals and art styles and stuff, with how you only see like 1 or two of the expensive lime max unusual retards on 24 people servers, I'd dare say stuff like the gibuses and chocolate medals are kinda worse, since there's a lot more of them and they fit with nothing. People who mix match items that make no sense also bother me more than people wearing unusuals that don't look that bad and are kinda wearing a "set".
The art style is still fine. I don't know what you guys are complaining about
The game was good. The artstyle died. The game was still good. It is still good. End of story.
The game's very good, these small things are just minor blemishes that really strike a sour note. TF2 is like a beautifully made cake. It has layers of fresh fruit and whipped cream that go together perfectly. It's incredibly well crafted and delicious, but on one of the slices, there's a rotten strawberry garnishing it, and a dead fly on another. What I'm saying is that lime paint is like a dead fly.
If you want to care or complain about artstyle do it to Overwatch instead, TF2 has been this way for years and isn't ever going to change, as a lot of the shitty cosmetics are community contributed, they can't simply remove them. Even the addition of an official "no cosmetic" option would probably cause some contributors to get salty. The game isn't tainted... yet.
Legendary skins
Legendary skins
Those still fit better than modern TF2's cosmetic clusterfuck. At least you can't change much about the skins to your own personal liking, which in this case is a very good thing.
It's ironic how everyone of these examples of the artstyle ruined is from workshop cosmetic updates. The least valve could do is check these updates and put some quality control down.
the artstyle never died, the theme did. dummies.
overwatch has some of the noisiest character design ive ever seen honest to god like their silhouettes are uniquely identifiable but FUCK DOES EVERYONE NEED TO HAVE PANELLED ROBOTIC LEGS?
Because it's part of the art direction and theme they've taken with the game and are maintaining consistency with. It's far future, far more vibrant an artstyle than TF2 and there is a lot of background info pertaining to it. And because it currently does a really good job of keeping it's theme consistent there's nothing wrong with that.

More like intentionally bad. It feels like when the LMAOBOX users with expensive inventories were saying that they wanted to be banned.
Found one
Tf2 becomes a religion?
I don't even think the artstyle died, it just changed. We went from a slightly more down to earth but cartoony world to straight up bonkers land which I actually quite enjoy. Sure, there's a man wearing a banana for a hat but that's sort of fun tbh.
I think he meant the game would stop getting major updates and somewhat die down, and not that the art style alone would be "dead" by then.
I feel like this video is pretty relevant to the topic especially with the tier system in TF2 and just how far the artstyle has fallen from its original, intended form. To throw in my two cents and elaborate on what I said earlier, in terms of art style, aesthetic and principles, almost everything since GM has been absolutely detrimental, though that isn't to say it wasn't bad before, merely that GM and beyond it has been rapidly accelerating in a direction it really shouldn't be going. Rarity is another part of this poorly chosen direction, as it's being used as an excuse for putting in more ridiculous and out of place crap that shouldn't be in the game at all. Admittedly, out of place hats and other stuff is hardly new, but just because there is a history of artstyle breaking cosmetics does not mean that Valve should keep trying to one up themselves by adding even more out of place and visually unappealing garbage. They should look to those previous mistakes and make an honest attempt to not make them again. Just because the artstyle has already been diluted as it has been does not mean it should continue to be more so, and if possible, attempts should be made at fixing those missteps in the past so we can maybe one day see a game where all the hats and all the cosmetics actually seem to fit. But really that's beyond wishful thinking, and going forward I fully expect to see Valve continue the course of rarity tiers and out of place nonsense that only serves to further dilute and destroy the games already dying artstyle.
This video makes me want to see an interview with the guy who banned with the backpack valued at 20 thousand dollars. These people need serious help.

Also, Valve fucks up too much, but Blizzard... oh boy :v:
We're here arguing about cosmetics that ruin the artstyle, yet praise every decently-modelled, decently-textured submission on the Emporium no matter how much it breaks the artstyle...
I wouldn't give two shits about hats and crap but they turned on sv_pure killing the no hats mod. I know they ain't gunna stop making cosmetics, and I know people ain't gunna stop wearing them, but all I ask is to be allowed a mod option to turn em off, we had it, it was great and then sv_pure. I couldn't give two shits about all the dopes who spend fortunes on fake crap, I don't have any problem with valve making money offa stuff. I just want my stupid mods that do what I want that doesn't affect anyone else.

[editline]20th May 2016[/editline] More power to them though, at least nobody's going to cry when the inevitable bumper car update hits.
