Major Update Speculation V31: Gamechanging Edition
Reserve shooter minicritting jumping people counters way more than just Scouts, and in a really bad way too. Just no.
Not really. Not many classes besides ones that can kill a Heavy quickly and effectively are willing to jump into the direct vicinity of a class that assblast them with his Minigun. Classes like Engineer, Sniper, and Demoman tend to stay out of range to avoid significant minigun fire while close enough to deal enough damage, but that's nowhere close enough to take massive amounts of minicrit damage from a Reserve Shooter slug while jumping. The only classes that would really need to fear a Reserve Shooter Heavy would be the Scout and Soldier who usually try to take the Heavy out at close range with a Scattergun while buzzing around his head or a barrage of close-range rockets, respectively. Would it be able to counter some classes? Yes, but it wouldn't be as ridiculous to literally everyone ala being airblasted into a corner by a degreaser pyro and being instantly destroyed by a single shot. Minicrit meat shots can be annoying, but they'll never top being stunlocked into a corner with no way of fighting back.
I don't believe Overwatch will "kill" TF2, TF2 has survived for a long time it's not going anywhere until Valve makes a TF3
(which will never happen because they don't do anything anymore)
Can't we just accept that an almost 10 year old game is expected to lose a lot of players after a while.

Especially when big content updates are getting more lacking
At this point it's astounding that TF2 has been alive for nearly 10 years. Ten goddamn years. Most annual churned-out COD games and Ass. Creed games don't even last a year before a new one is announced and the cycle restarts. The fact that a single game has survived for this long is a monument to the dedication of the community surrounding TF2 and I love it to death. Hell, there is still content for the game being made each day, and there's a nice chunk of major updates coming in the future, so it's entirely possible for the game to survive a few more years.
after anthony burch, I wouldnt touch anything made by gearbox with a barge pole
I never knew waifu Pauling's brother was so dickless.
Can we talk about the community these days?

It's really not that astounding when you think more into it. It's one of valves very few active IPs, developed over the course of 9 years specifically for longetivity. It wasn't a one-off game expected to get a sequel, so comparing it to cod is a moot point. Obviously cods fall out of relevancy, none of them are made with the expectation of being the "last prominent game" in the franchise.
With the addition of an economy and community support through workshop, it just further improved longetivity. So again, the only thing impressive about it being alive this long is that it hasn't seen more largescale optimizations. Give it that and matchmaking (both things it needed years ago) and it could have and still could grow to fight other big titles for popularity instead of getting all the attention big games get from their developers and substract the success because nobody has a skill based goal to grow and most players still experience performance issues.
TF2 is project M, while OW is Sm4sh
both are great in their own right with vastly different gameplay (albeit similar core mechanics and design)
One is significantly more technical but both have their skill ceiling.
One is a mod/is rooted in a mod.... One isn't.

Then what's Final Combat :v:?
TF2 peaks at 55k since Overwatch came out.
In may last year it peaked at ~85k.
That's a clear 30k loss no matter how you look at it. That's a 35% loss.
I think both games can co-exist but Valve needs to put out regular updates again for that to work.
I'm genuinely curious if Overwatch caused this, or valve's recent direction with TF2.
I'm suprised as to why they thought getting weapon skins (noone was realy asking for) in Gunmettle was better than a War Update about classes that could use some core changes (Engie vs. Spy)
It's a wierd move, knowing that It had a chance of bringing back some people :v:

Because making low budget tiling texture and calling them "unique skins" is easier than a thought out update.
Imagine if we got a ton of balance changes with Gun Mettle. That would've been neat.
can't really get my head around what they were thinking when creating most of the skins.
most of them look like something you'd find on gamebanana 10 years ago

like this is just lazy

Yeah, changes we should have received two-three years prior. Don't get me wrong, I'm appreciative of what Gun Mettle granted me, but I'm not going to dismiss Valve's tardiness.

That's one of the nicer fitting skins though, there's much much worse examples of random colours.
Atleast we got new festives and weapons that year...
:v:

What bothered me about a lot of the Gun Mettle skins was how they were so sloppily made that they didn't even try to cover up the Texture Seams

But this one is decent too, simple but also pretty...
The frickin smiley minigun is worse xD
In other news, the time between TF Comics #1 and now is ~2 years and 9 months with no sign of the next issue.
One could have gotten an Associates degree in the time it's taken for the "bimonthly" comic to conclude.
Last MvM update came out in the same year when i graduated from school and went to college. I almost graduated from my college and there is still no other MvM update :v:
Not sure if VALVe are slow or time flies fast
I just ran into someone who used that crouch glitch to build a sentry inside the spiral on Upward's second last point.
I wonder how many more maps are going to be ruined.
"just gonna slap some random colours on this and call it a day"
A lot of the first round of weapon skins were themed around reusing existing in-game textures. Specifically weapons in the Teufort Collection reuse textures from the map of 2Fort. The Treadplate Tormentor SMG uses metal walkway textures. The War Room Minigun uses the world map texture from the intel room.

Sometimes a weapon skin doesn't directly reuse a specific texture, but takes inspiration from it. The Bogtrotter Sniper Rifle doesn't quite match the lilypad and water textures from underneath the bridge, but that's clearly what it is based on. And the Bovine Blazemaker doesn't exactly match up with 2fort's cow, but it clearly referencing it in both the name and appearance.

Likewise, the Team Sprayer SMG - as the name suggests - is based on the logos of the opposing RED and BLU teams. It even features miniature logos for the teams on sides of the gun. It's not random in the least, you just weren't paying attention and assumed it was.

It's only fitting that the skins look as good as the map plays.
they're rubbish still
still waiting for colored shovels from manko

You mean the most popular map of all time, across both TF2 and TFC? Yeah, that map must suck.

popular things can be and often are complete trash (like 2fort)
