big hat for big heads only
How about we work on Halloween restrictions instead of all these multi/all-class updates?
Only restrict things that change silhouettes and/or go too far outside of TF2's art style. Make a cosmetic like an all-seeing eye or fullview goggles to see all cosmetic styles and pets.

I thought we already agreed it would look bad on the Scout?

We actually had vague plans to put it on Demo, depending on whether Spark fancies it or not.

Oh that looks so cool on Demoman! You should put it on Heavy as well.

I'd love to agree, but I think to change the colour of heavy's pants, or to change the item to match his pants would be too drastic of a change.

Not disagreeing or anything, but isn't there already an item that changes the color of his pants?

The item schema has just updated: contracts will now correctly self-destruct on April 1st, rather than March 15th.

and it was shit back then too.
Something I been curious about for a long time, like really long, is what was the exact reason that valve stop giving Hats n' stuff descriptions?

Laziness
Laziness
I was really afraid that was the answer. It kind of sucks, I remember like 4 or 5 years ago when I was but a wee lad, I would spend hours reading them.
What with all the community content they've added I'm surprised they haven't done another item description contest, that'd be pretty nice.
Laziness
When they started adding loads of hats it was kinda justified, especially with Halloween 2013. Though now they're doing small batches they should really start doing them again.

I'd actually prefer if my robosandwich wasn't polluted with a wall of nonsense.
I liked those few weeks in February to May of 2012 where they would just add a random hat from the workshop I really enjoyed those updates, they were pleasant.
Why doesn't Valve add cosmetics with any degree of frequency anymore? I can't fathom any good rationale as to why, I mean, it takes almost no effort to cull them from a mostly dead workshop (Valve's fault) and implement them. Free money, right?
One of the reasons we are getting tiered items is actualy to prevent ultimate rise in memory space needed for tf2. Basicaly, thats why we are only getting like 10 hats per update. Skins on the other hand, are just textures applied to stock skins (thats why when you have old PC it takes some time untill ypur equiped skin gains a texture)
Basicaly, we arent getting as much hats as before, becouse they want to keep TF2 as small as possible (and they can't just delete hats)

A good handful of the Gun Mettle skins actually used separate new models with different UVs. I haven't looked at all of them, or any of the Tough Break ones but I would assume they also use the models made for skins.

If they really cared that much about filesize they wouldn't be ramping up the amount of new maps like crazy. They added 20 new maps in 2015. That's as many as 2012, 2013, and 2014 combined. Filesize clearly isn't that big of a deal.

Except that they've been perfectly happy to add extra styles to updated items and those are literally set up as duplicate items.
Like there's 2 entirely separate dead of nights, 2 separate bone domes, 2 separate lurker's leathers etc in the files and they weren't under any obligation to accept the extra styles at all.

I don't think that's true. What are the paths?

[del]I'd argue they look different enough to both work.
A little like the two demoman's tricornes, the difference in colour placement is enough.[/del]
[editline]oops[/editline]
snipping your quote since you did.
Isn't it kind of weird that Valve allowed the cosmetic changes of everything you have, from the classes themselves to weapons, but never allowed customization of the Engineer's buildings? Sentries and dispensers will really always be recognizable, so why can't they be personalized while you can change your rocket launcher to have unicorns?

I think they planned to have customisable buildings last smissmass, since there were references to a festive PDA in the files.
