• Major Update Speculation V31: Gamechanging Edition

The only reason I want to play matchmaking again, from my brief jaunt in that weekend stress test, is to scribble on the results screen. That's kind of fun. I mean, sure, I'll put forth a token effort best I can as a largely mediocre player across the board, but there's something wonderfully tactile about having a few seconds to sketch out your frustrations/joys. Heck, maybe we should be allowed to scribble on the screen, visible only to us, while respawning. It's silly, but fun.
It'll probably be a month or more before the next big update, and it's most likely going to be matchmaking's full release, along with balance changes. Which, to be honest, is something that I'm very excited for, as it might be the start of Valve-promoted competitive TF2.
They'd be bringing matchmaking around Overwatch's release date if that was the case.
They'd be bringing matchmaking around Overwatch's release date if that was the case.
I dont know about you guys, but unless valve fixes literally everything wrong with the game and adds really interesting new weapons, maps, mvm content, etc, I am probably going to be playing overwatch over any tf2 update.
Be realistic - we won't get anything until summer
I could see Valve potentially grabbing up Iron Gauntlet and making it official in the next month or so. It makes sense, it's been years since there's been any new MVM content and the update seems like it's pretty much ready to go so Valve could ship it with minimal work, allowing them to continue to focus on matchmaking and the summer update while giving TF2 fans a big update (and Valve/community creators a source of revenue) we don't normally see this time of year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure Valve has said in the past that none of the custom MVM maps they've seen were up to their standard (I think this was after some TF2maps contest). That said, their standards for cosmetics have certainly lowered so I see no reason why their standards for maps wouldn't be lowered too.

In 2015 we saw them add more then a dozen community maps, it's fair to say that their standards for community maps have dropped quite a bit from their extremely lofty heights of a few years ago. Edit: Also it seems like a lot of testing was done on the custom waves for the Iron Gauntlet maps, which probably wasn't done during the TF2maps.net MVM contest.
Be realistic - we won't get anything until summer, and when content finally arrives it'll be a shitty cash grab shoehorned in from some other Valve game. Everyone will complain, but they'll still participate in the update and spend all their money. The TF team will then see the profit they make and pretend that the update was good, interesting, and that the community wants more content like it. Not that they know any better - members of the community could literally scream into the TF teams' ears and they'd still not hear it (unless of course you play competitive, because apparently turning TF2 into the next eSports cash cow is more important than listening to the majority of the players, who really don't give a fuck about comp beyond matchmaking, which I'll admit is pretty neat).
Jesus christ, did weapon skins really make you that upset?
I could see Valve potentially grabbing up Iron Gauntlet and making it official in the next month or so. I haven't really paid attention to it on FP. Also, the team might be hesitant to add the update after the receptions of the previous community updates that were mostly caused by themselves.
Weapon skins are like cosmetics that you can actually see in first person. Not sure where the issue is.
They were in another game first which automatically makes them lazy horseshit. Duh.
Reminder that their initial "high standards" deemed Junction and Hoodoo to be good maps.
To be fair the TF team has changed over the years as has their standards for maps. Some of the early community maps for TF2 weren't that great, but a lot of early Valve maps weren't either. It took both Valve and the community some time to figure out what works best for maps in TF2.

You're always going to see more complaints than praises, because it takes less effort to complain. As far as "shoehorning" in some shitty cash grab from any other game... what exactly is there left to shoehorn? Unique MvM solo missions, perhaps? Valve does listen, just because they don't acknowledge doesn't mean they're not listening.
They were in another game first which automatically makes them lazy horseshit. Duh.
You can't seriously defend graded cosmetics though
You can't seriously defend graded cosmetics though
The grades on the cosmetics have no effect other than making it blatant which items are rarer than others, which helps users interested in buying or trading for them.
You can't seriously defend graded cosmetics though
Means the more wacky, "artstyle bending" cosmetics are rarer. I don't *really* see a problem with it?
Valve does listen, just because they don't acknowledge doesn't mean they're not listening.
The funny thing about that rant is that the TF2 team is communicating more then ever. 2 of them post on reddit and we know they are in communication with prominent members of the community like B4nny and Fr0z3nr.

Just go and play that damn game already and stop suffering over a game that can't make you stop thinking about overwatch. Do you tell your family that you're gonna play overwatch too? Please do so, they gotta know too. Have you told your friends too? Don't forget to do so.

I really feel like a decent amount of new content alongside matchmaking could give the game a proper second wind. I still love the game but I only really play payload consistently because it's the only game mode that feels like it has a beginning, middle, and a conclusion (satisfying or otherwise) and the others feel neverending. That being so, I would like some more maps to keep it fresh and I do want more players generally to be playing TF2 so I can get games on the maps I like at 3am. I can never get a game of Granary. I don't mean cosmetics btw. I don't really give a crap about them and I don't see how they would get players back into the game. Is your phone an Iphone or Android?
The grades on the cosmetics have no effect other than making it blatant which items are rarer than others, which helps users interested in buying or trading for them.
ah yes the red text on the batsaber sure helps everyone obtain it more easily
ah yes the red text on the batsaber sure helps everyone obtain it more easily
No, it helps uninformed people know that "hey, this item is rare, so chances are if I unbox it I'm lucky". If you want a Batsaber so bad, prostitution is always an option.
I have an Android. Galaxy S6 to be exact. Also have a contract with o2 if that has anything to do with it
Android doesn't work well with the Steam app (though most phones don't anyways), so I'd suggest trying it a bit more, checking to see if notifications are enabled in the steam app, and if none of that works, try contacting steam support.
The only thing that doesn't work well is the steam app itself ffs. At least it sent me to the "enter your code here" screen before, now it keeps saying "whoops, couldn't send a message to your smart phone" ugh.
Maybe try out an app that also sends confirmation number in sms, to rule out your carrier (Like viber for instance). I've activated mobile auth with a new number on a 2nd acc about a week ago, and it arrived almost instantly. Was using Android.
Weapon skins are like cosmetics that you can actually see in first person. Not sure where the issue is.
Even the most fitting skins look like wallpaper IMO.
I don't think that most of the weapons skins look very good. They're generally too detailed, which looks bad from a distance, or garish and unfittingly coloured. The ones I do like tend to be contract rewards, so good luck actually getting them in strange quality! And not to mention all of those blue ones we got in Tough Break. I guess Valve thought they looked too good to be in red.
I wonder if TF2 Competitive will give rewards like items or something for winning a match or being great.
I like a ton of the skins from Tough Break. More than the number I like from Gun Mettle. Some of the skins in both collections are just bizarre looking though. I wish there was more customization, like ways to adjust the skin wear, or the ability to strangify skins.
we can strangify skins though?
Only civilian grades, though. Others need trading-up :v:
I'm split about matchmaking--it's fun to be matched with similarily skilled players, but at the same time, once everyone starts using it, pubs will become absolute shitfests of bad players, and be horrible unbalanced as weapons begin to be balanced for MM, not pubs.
Means the more wacky, "artstyle bending" cosmetics are rarer. I don't *really* see a problem with it?
After the Batman items, Hazmat Headcase, Track Terrorizer, and the low-grade Graylien I don't think that means much now. The Corona Australis should be no rarer than the Hazmat. The Anthropod's Aspect should be no rarer than the Firefly.
