Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve did absolutely nothing, as always.
because game companies do it all the fucking time, why do you think battleborne had its open beta at the same time as dooms. Its an incredibly common practice to try and hold events for your own game to draw attention away from competitors to retain more of your playerbase, its been done constantly among game companies for decades. Its why consoles usually release at the same time, why game releases generally happen close together, etc. It just makes logical sense for valve, which is a fucking business to make a noteworthy update to try and draw attention towards there game. Heck it wouldn't surprise me if valves matchmaking was partially motivated by valve wanting to be able to compete, to try and retain its veteran players, considering they never gave a shit about any kind of matchmaking system beforehand.
valve doesn't want to draw attention for tf2. if anything they're probably dead tired of taking care of it.
At least we've had countless updates to cosmetics. All the new versions of items that can now be worn by other classes are probably more than any new hats we would have gotten by now.
I like how we've went from getting [new weapons & cosmetics], to [updates to old weapons and new cosmetics], to [only new cosmetics], and now finally [only updates to old cosmetics] I guess you can imagine what the final destination is.

The releases of other games have 0 to no impact on their work ethic or what they work on. TF2 is almost a decade old, I imagine valve is more thankful then worried that TF2 might finally die off.

Out of all their current games, TF2, Dota 2 and CS:GO, it arguably takes the least amount of effort to maintain, yet they're still adding what's going to be the biggest crowd drawing and player retaining mode yet: competitive matchmaking. TF2 must still make Valve a lot of money, and they clearly care about it by continuing to release major updates.
We should be grateful, though. Atleast they are bothering with updating a game that is THIS OLD, no matter what. They could have said "Ok guys, seriously. We are done updating this game, it has died after all. This is the last (and we mean this) update we will put out, goodbye." 2 years ago and left us with the smissmas update and nothing else. But, they are still updating it and also trying to add new features into it. I would say we are in a fine state, actually. With MM probably coming outta beta soon (Which will not """save""" TF2, but will bring more attention to it.) we should be grateful for what we got, for what we might get in the future might be infinitely worse.

If the game was completely free and there was no way for Valve to make money on the game anymore I would agree with you, but TF2 probably makes Valve tens of millions of dollars a year. They aren't still updating the game out of the kindness of their hearts, they are making a bunch of money with the in game economy and it's not unreasonable for us to except decent updates to the game as long as they are. That's how a game run as a service works.

You'd think with all that sweet, sweet cashola they'd get around to fixing and polishing things. I mean heck, isn't the point of being successful to use the cash you made to make things even better and therefore generate even more cash? Then again maybe Valve knows that 140 Million with no work is better than 170 Million with work.

There isn't too much of a reason for them to keep tf2 up and running, other than adding cosmetics for that sweet cash and nothing else. Think of it proportionately as well. 1 million dollars looks less in the eyes of a billionaire compared to a millionaire. If that makes sense.
Valve is slow with updates in Dota 2 aswell. Right now people are begging them and Icefrog for a new balance update. (and also Pit Lord)

Honestly what do you think would happen if Valve stopped supporting TF2? A bunch of people would sell their items and the ingame economy would be in free fall. People invested in the CSGO or DOTA2 economy would take a look at Valve dropping TF2 and wonder if they should cash out as well. As long as TF2, CSGO and DOTA2 all have in game economies (especially since they all connect through steam trading) Valve is in it for the long haul for those games. They can't drop support without seriously harming the economy of one, which would have a ripple effect on the others.
You do realize they can balance weapons for comp, right? I'm pretty sure everyone agreed that once competitive is a thing, they will look at statistics and balance weapons accordingly.
Crit-a-Cola is still fucking bullshit that got buffed for no reason. Valve's had 3 years to notice it.

There's the ESEA matches going on, probably not gonna see a significant patch until that's over
Or at the very least accept fixes from the community as plenty have been made.
hnng don't get me started There are SO MANY mods and workshop items that simply fix the crap valve leaves in the game. How hard would it be for valve to say, "hey can we implement this?" - the modder just wants to see it fixed, not any glorification or reward or anything like that. And could you imagine how many people would be knocking on their door with bug fixes and optimizations if they rewarded players with something like community-quality items?
they give you the cockroach hat now
no actually they still hand out community guns sigsev got a comm sniper a couple days ago
they give you the cockroach hat now
's cute toh, kinda upset you cant get it normally.
no actually they still hand out community guns sigsev got a comm sniper a couple days ago
good for him, that guy's videos are so well-researched and novel. leagues more interesting than any other TF2 uploader I can think of right now.
In miami? Why would it be hosted that far south instead of in kissimee/orlando?
it was decided by vote, and probably venue availability/pricing but i dunno about the last 2
In miami? We need a cyberpunk Miami map in the game, stat
We need a cyberpunk Miami map in the game, stat
It requires you push a cart full of cocaine and hairspray past a police station full of hiply dressed detectives, a hawaiian shirt warehouse, a gang of rough but likable cuban youths, the bikini and rollerskate rental emporium, the sleeveless turquoise and skin colored shirt boutique, the deconstructed white linen suit coat market, the deck shoe bazaar, the black and white checkered pattern tie factory, the neon piping production plant, the alligator housing preserve, the Ferarri car lot, the synthesizer and Casio keyboard convention, Jan Hammer's house, 47 newly constructed beachside mansions, and a giant 80 foot Japanese-constructed robotic Ronald Reagan. Where's my million bucks, Valve.
Don't forget every cap point playing synthwave music when you roll the cart over it
