i mean, isn't it a good thing that most weapons aren't as consistently useful as stock weapons? The very idea behind the weapons added is providing situational advantages so there's no Pay-2-win mentality and for the longest time that's worked. And it's not like every weapon that isn't super useful like Kritz or Gunboats is completely worthless - really only most melees and some primaries/secondaries.
Stock \ Serious Contender \ I'm an asshole \ Might aswell not exist
These have some of my favorite weapons though.
Rick May recorded new Soldier line a few months ago, according to this Star Fox Interview
Huh, could've sworn he voiced Wolf, not Peppy and Andross. [sp]"Do a rocket jump!"[/sp]
[T]http://i.imgur.com/38HC95b.png[/T] Give him the helmet and he definitely looks the part
Yeah, it's gotta be the reverberation of the helmet in the soundbooth that gives Soldier exactly the right voice.
We also know Nathan Vetterlein recorded some new Scout lines back in February, Valve must of been recording lines for an update or a video (maybe for matchmaking?)
Most of the mvm lines are missing also, I think only solider and one other have a "Sniper!" line, and let's not forget the "pass it to me line" doesn't exist for any of the classes yet.

soldier heavy, engineer and medic have ready and sniper lines.
It's weird that they got Gary Schwartz to record Heavy lines but not Demo ones.
Since we're on the subject of voice actors, I think we really need to appreciate how open and communicative Nathan Vetterlein is with his fans in his almost-daily streams he has an almost constant dialogue with people in chat. granted the viewership tends to be in smaller numbers but he's super into the conversation and he's always got something fun to talk about, or the chat always gives him something to talk about. He's the type of person I feel who, if you were to meet in person, he would treat the dialogue as an even playing field, no "holier than thou" vibes or "I don't have time for this", he seems to really appreciate his fans and he's super casual about it
All the voice actors seem really cool people, just maybe not as social media-savvy - Robin Atkin Downes was happy to share the Meet the Medic outtakes, and Ellen McLain and John Patrick Lowrie have taken to being everyone's foster grandparents at pop culture conventions, it's super cute. For the most part though, they're older people, further in their career (quite a few actually at a retiring age) where TF2 was a smaller thing they did. While for Vetterlein, he's only just starting out and banking on it fully makes a ton of sense (and he does it well).
It's weird that they got Gary Schwartz to record Heavy lines but not Demo ones.
Valve has always been weird with stuff like that. :v:
It always surprises me that despite John Patrick Lowrie being one of the oldest VAs, he still sounds as good as he did when he started voicing the Sniper. He's tied with the Scout for the most consistent voice.

I found out back when the Ducktales remake was being made they got Scrooges and Magica's original VA's for their characters. Both of them are 96 years old ( I believe they are at least, I know both are in their 90's ) and they still nailed their performances perfectly... Makes me wonder if they'll still do the new Rebooted cartoon for Ducktales or decide to let someone else take over when that airs.
Then we got Gray Schwartz who went from this https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/3/34/Demoman_specialcompleted04.wav?t=20100625221817 to this https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/3/3d/Demoman_sf13_influx_small02.wav?t=20131030081531 tbh they sound like different people.
first one is excited demo and second one is regular demo what are you on about
I've seen some clips of a person asking Gary Schwartz to do a heavy voice at random events and they seem more like impressions than the original voice acting. Honestly it's probably impossible to get the clear voice heard in Meet the Heavy back again. Their voices are all getting deeper and gravelly.
It's pretty obvious from those monstrous MvM heavy and those high sounding halloween heavy lines that valve does some pitch changes to heavy to get that pitch they want while Mr. Schwartz just gives them the base for it.
Much as they did with Linda Young's Frieza.
honestly i think this game is a lot more balanced than people give it credit for i can't really think of a weapon that is just straight up over powered, pretty much all the time when i die i feel like it's my fault and not just cause a weapon was too strong some people mention the crit-a-cola and stuff but honestly i've never noticed it...
The balance falls apart more on the per class basis honestly. Classes like Soldier Scout and Demoman are designed so much better than classes like Pyro. Soldier is such an amazing generalist that he makes any niche class like Spy feel entirely useless. Heavys been nerfed to the point where he's not even a threat anymore without a medic. I dont think the weapons are nearly as bad as the core classes currently are.
Heavys been nerfed to the point where he's not even a threat anymore without a medic.
Heavy is pretty much a joke at this point without a medic. You'll just have explosive classes just zip back and forth behind cover firing explosives at you and you're just stuck there with your thumbs up your ass playing tiddlywinks just waiting for the eventual crit. What should happen is that heavy has a 20% damage resistance regardless of which weapon he has, so you're not stuck with heavies walking around constantly revved up with natascha or brass beast hoping to survive more than a 1v1 encounter. Bad enough if you're going up a scout who's lagging so bad the little bastards teleporting all over and trying to shoot the little fart stain, but if you're up against 2 scouts? Might as well pull out your little book of sudoku puzzles and wait for the respawn timer then and there. Because one of the sons of bitches is gonna be using crit-a-cola, if not both, and there is a good chance ones got sandman and yeah, you're screwed. With what was done to all miniguns in the accuracy and ramp up department (which is just fucking stupid to nerf in the first place), it's just irritating to play heavy now. Hey, you got the drop on 3 people, now wait for them to stand relatively still for that entire full second while you get your weapon to speed and you just got critted by the soldier in the group from the first rocket he's fired since he left spawn. The only time I ever play heavy anymore is when I know I'll have a medic quasi-dedicated to healing me, because otherwise....it's not even worth it. Not with most of the other team likely consisting of 2-3 soldiers, just as many demo's, and a smattering of spies and snipers just to make your life even more of a hell. The way it's balanced is that heavy is based on having a medic heal him, but why be dedicated to a heavy when a soldier or a demo can move around much better, keep up with the medic (without marking themselves for death) and have splash damage that can damage more than the tiny cone the heavy has, and have more of a chance of getting random crits than a heavy does. Just thought of a way of balancing it so heavy isn't so damned screwed in most situations. When he's revved up (stock, tomislav, natascha), no movement penalty, and have the brass beast be based off his normal movement speed, not when he's fully revved up, as it's based off of now. It'd make the heavy an actual competitor now instead of a flagrant joke.

Some classes have more of a generalist design philosophy and some have more of a specialist design philosophy.
Uh yeah...that's how Valve designed the classes. Case and point: Spy's Sapper can counter sentries, but not as well as Sticky bombs. Despite Demoman being more of a general class in application, and spy being highly specialized.
Case and point: Spy's Sapper can counter sentries, but not as well as Sticky bombs. Despite Demoman being more of a general class in application, and spy being highly specialized.
Spy doesn't exist to counter buildings, the Sapper exists solely so the Spy can actually do something about them without throwing his life away in a hail-Mary stab attempt. TFC Spy was capable of throwing his grenades without dropping his disguise, the Sapper took inspiration from that without taking how potent grenades themselves were and instead created a mechanic that allows for crafty knifeplay through the sapper/building relationship that exists for Spies and Engineers alike to take into account. Spy's specialty is assassinations, nothing more. The Invisibility Cloak and Sapper exist to augment his ability to assassinate key targets.
And I just said the generalists are too good, to the point that having specialists feels extremely pointless. A well placed sapper while your team is pushing in can be the difference between a successful push and a failed push.
I've always wanted a Sapper replacement that made it impossible for the Spy to damage sentries, but sentries won't shoot him, or something. The main thing about the Sapper is that it allows the Spy to do his job behind the lines while not having to worry about getting aimbotted but as it is now the Sapper noise (and the Engineer yelling) is way too distinctive to ever not mean dead Spy.
