TF2 Beta
Hey it says that the run_tf2.exe is a virus is this safe? I don't want to get another virus on my PC.

What says? Don't trust me and many people - don't launch and play it. That said. It's 100% safe.
Has anyone extracted just the lightwrap? If so, link?

version 0 is the beta; i.e. pretty much AT RELEASE. No 2006 material

The first usable lightwrap, not from the first version, someone even posted a picture earlier in the thread and I don't feel like downloading gigabytes worth of content just for the lightwrap.

Wrong thread ;_;

Get a kaspersky.
Actually, I disagree, especially for the reasons posted above. During times when TF2 did have update-less droughts, I grew tired of it, especially before the item system. You can only replay the same maps with the same limited amount of weapons and tactics so many times before it becomes boring. Can you imagine being a Pyro-only player and not having airblast? Can you imagine playing like that for years, especially with the old stats where Pyro was sorely underpowered? Or how about Spy or Engie, who increasingly became harder to play since people stopped being surprised by their tricks after a while? The update that gave Spy the ability to replenish cloak and Engie the ability to upgrade Dispensers was a huge godsend.
Now TF2 has so many included maps and so many weapons and tactics that I'm still getting the hang of some of the newer ones. It's also much more balanced than it once was, meaning it's a lot more playable and most of all fun. The cosmetic system keeps me busy and interested even when I grow tired of the gameplay. Anyone saying that the item system was a bad idea is kidding themself. Not only does it keep the game interesting outside of the main game itself, but it also keeps TF2 funded and thus updated. I really don't think TF2 would be anywhere near what it is today if Valve didn't add microtransactions to it. People hate microtransactions because of how other companies abuse it, but the way Valve used it was fair and smart. It definitely improved the game.
A lot of people are nostalgic for the old TF2 and I can see where they're coming from because I have a lot of good memories with it too, but you really have to take a step back and weigh the pros and cons. TF2 back then was a much simpler game with balance issues and an admittedly repetitive and increasingly bland style back when all we had were several official maps and most custom maps using the official assets. The gameplay was alright, but for non-competitive players it started to wear out, and I was feeling it too.
You can still try this stuff, by the way. Just go find a copy of The Orange Box on Xbox 360 and play around in that for a while. The tenth time you go to airblast someone or pick up metal for cloak or eat a Sandvich, you'll start realizing how much you appreciate modern TF2.
this doesn't explain how CS1.6 (14 years old) and CSS (10 years old) are still popular despite never getting TF2 like updates

Because it doesn't require a decent PC to play, and a full generation of gamers was raised on CS.

did people not play TFC?
did people not play TFC?
Nope, because it was hard to get. And mechanics are much harder.
I guess that's pretty much what we get of the TF2 Beta Trailer 2 models, the head textures in the body textures. (Engineer is noticably different, but his head texture for the invulns are old... Even Heavy's über looks kinda eerie)
tf2 without hats, the horror...
tf2 without hats, the horror...
Nope.AVI, just long necks.
tf2 without hats, the horror...
IT WAS MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THEM
now the game is a god damn cosmetic cash-cow for the modellers to pick on with their greedy, grimy money-laundering hands
that being said I have 303 hats

Now i can go to sleep well assured you hate hats to the point you have over 300 of them.
Also up goes this victory of sieg-launching satanist kiddies from csmania.
Honestly I really want to play the older tf2 again.. The game was really fun back in the day when the medic and heavy update were already released. I am not sure if I am getting bored or tired. But the game is a clusterfuck atm. Simplicity was the best imo.

When I'm trying to dl this, its saying that it cannot find any steam2 content servers for depot 440, version 0.
Did they delete it?
I'm using depotdownloader.exe -depot 440 -version 0.
