the what
the sniper rifle random crits
Sniper Rifle indeed initially had random crits. Additionally, TF2 originally had even wider random damage spread (~34%).
Got it to work, nostalgia all over the place, too bad there is no option for "very high" on textures like there is now :/ Still cool though

Try mat_picmip -10 in the console.
Try mat_picmip -10 in the console.
Does not work without sv_cheats 1. :P
Playable V0 is on my archives (as is the oooold Team Gaben Alpha with the aliens, I forget if I mentioned that). I've also got the source code leak from 2005/2006 complete with .cpp and .h files for things like scrapped grenades and weps (not available for DL because Valve could kill me in my sleep if I released it)
V0 TF2 is basically XBOX TF2. No hauling, no airblasts, etc. Quite fun. Old killicons (with bullets) are in there, as is the old grenade launcher model with the caps in the slots of the launcher.
The server browser also detects all current TF2 servers, but you can't connect to them. I suppose with some re-jiggering we could set up dedicated servers for the v0 TF2.
We should get a group together and set some times to play, sv_lan 0 I believe load the map through console and we got a game goin! And some dedicated servers would sure be something.
This is another way to get it with the old engine as well http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3224422 By the way everyone, you can also do this with the standalone tf2 disk release. It's not the version 1.0.0.0 but it's real close, sometime early-mid February 2008. You have minimal hud, 90 fov options, and very high texture options. It also has cp_badlands on it extra.
Does not work without sv_cheats 1. :P
As long as you're playing offline (not sure if there are v0 servers), that shouldn't be a problem. Just type sv_cheats 1into the console, followed by mat_picmip -10.
Forgot to mention, mat_picmip -10 is an even higher quality setting, as compared to "Very High" (being -1). It was later removed in the game due to causing "instability" for some users, even though it is an undoable console command, not to mention you need to check the box in Advanced Options to access it anyways. I once got UserNotFound's v0 a while back to accept mat_picmip -10 and it looked glorious. Not sure why it's not working for you.
So I just uploaded some new stuff into my archives. This includes all the old ".xbox.vtx" files that Valve got rid of from the PC version, all the old <mapname>_<language>.txt files that we used to have, some script files (rockets.txt, carrier.txt, gameinfo.txt, matchgroups.txt), all class models for the pyrovision goggles and tomb raider pickaxe item (tf/models/player/items/all_class, these were deleted ages ago), four old "c_bonesaw_medic_animations.mdl" files and many other things.
Here's the highlights.
Scrapped Mummy Eyes from Scream Fortress 2013
Model files
Textures
Backpack icons
Scream Fortress 2013 Bundle icon w/ Mummy Eyes
Boo Balloon
Original backpack icons w/ "Blatant Disney rip-off face"
Textures from before the patch that removed the blatant Disney rip-off face.
Also, you may stumble upon some files named like this: c_bonesaw_medic_animations_40.mdl. Notice the number 40. That number indicates which patch version the files were from. Simply remove that number by renaming the file (if it's a model) and you'll be able to load the model just fine.
And once again, I've enabled checkboxes and downloading, so you can hover over a folder or file, click the checkbox in the top-left of the icon, and then a Download option will appear on the top navbar (to the left of "Filter"). Clicking that will generate a ZIP file containing the items you've selected.
Also this thread has turned into an Unused/Unreleased content thread for TF2.
ISP finally fixed my internet connection. I'm gonna make a clean TF2 build from the files on Orange Box DVD and post it here.

Oh snap. Gotta add this to my archives. See, they (Firebeast and TheRubberFruitFace) just took the oldest DLLs that still worked and tossed them in with the Version 0 files, so V0 Playable is not "V1 Orange Box DVD". And yeah, I'd call your package "Version 1" simply because Version 0 contains the grenade files. Still downloading it though.
Also, why Mega.co.nz? It wants to install some shitty extension on my Firefox because the file is over 1GB.

Try Google Chrome.
[sp]Shittiest advice ever.[/sp]

It's the best file hosting service I know of. Do you have a better option? Don't offer Dropbox.

CTF HUD (below the briefcase icons) is pure white, pressing TAB on a created server crashes the game. <- Scratch that, seems to have just been issues from the first launch of the game. No longer having this issue.
Also the MOTD text when you make a server says you're on Valve's playtest server and to "play nice".
Also also, I'm now just noticing that on the class selection screen, sounds play (like you can hear the Spy taking a drag off his cigarette). I don't remember hearing those sounds in current TF2.
Holy crap, when you taunt the camera actually spins around automatically so the player model is facing the camera! What ever happened to that?

I'm currently uploading the files to my dedicated server in hopes of seeing if I can somehow get a Linux dedicated server running for this. Not 100% sure what I'm doing exactly, so this probably won't go well.
Well good luck too ya. Hopefully we can get a game going in the next couple of days. It sure would be nice to have a couple a dedicated servers.

You can't, you need old Linux binaries for that.

Well so much for that then.

On a second thought, you can try running 1.0.0.9 game binaries with the latest Source 2007 Linux Dedicated Server (AppID 310). Although I'm not sure if this will work properly.
Here's an update from 1.0.0.0 to 1.0.0.9: https://mega.co.nz/#!HYYWiThb!GVtnOj3yuiMoo3x-CnH6mwXe8lA7hdzcBlv1XToLwFo Extract and replace.

So after speaking to Firebeast (who knows his stuff when it comes to depots and build dates and what-not), your DVD copy is actually "Version 2".
Firebeast: mega download just finished
Firebeast: dvd is just v2 which is what we've always used the dlls from
The DLLs in my playable V0 are from after the DVD it would seem, but the version 0 files themselves (aside from the DLLs) are older:
Firebeast: playtester screenshots and console versions suggest v0 wouldve been sometime august so
Firebeast: yup and theres a bunch of screenshots of valve employees and generic playtesters playing what appears to be v0 in august on dustbowl
I've found source 2007 linux dedicated server.gcf uploaded in June 2008: https://mega.co.nz/#!WNhjnDhb!SbFxJwCRb-XqKZFY_sUD-bzhXYU2JnwSoluzIDwSBHQ
See if it works with version 1.0.0.9 tf server binary.
could some one make a tutorial on how to install steamkit, i assume its the new version of depot downloder.
or if someone could give me a copy of the engie update that be swell.
