I got water working without it causing too much of a headache!

No ripples added yet, that's to-do in tomorrow's compile.
Dustbowl has always been my favorite TF2 map; so I'm all for this.
Could you release beta at least?
I'd like to make something with it in Garry's Mod.
I'm not saying that it isn't visually appealing, im saying that it is not as visually appealing as it could infact be. If he changed alot more of the style and overall feel it would have been a much, much much much more enjoyable map in general.

This isnt visually appealing either.
Dachande, your argument is pretty flawed. This isn't a texture swap at all, it's a rebuild of Dustbowl to make it more appealing and less boring. Ever since TF2 was released, one of the big complaints was not enough map variation and the fact that it gets boring to play desert maps all the time. Not only has he solved this problem, but he's made it really nice looking in the process.
You've been drastically underselling the effort he's gone too (and being completely wrong in the process) and completely blowing out of proportion any slightly negative aspects, using incorrect "facts" that you made up on the spot.
I'm completely in support of this and I can't wait to play one of the most playable maps in the game with a new look. It's a good map with a great structure and balance, and if it can be aesthetically pleasing too, it'll be one of the best maps in the game.

Actually, I reckon this could look good on medieval mode as well.
Still can't wait to see it fully finished mate.

it is a rebuild, i understand, but if more was added and changed, the map would be more aesthetically pleasing than it is so now. this is what i have been trying to say.
i find the map to be pretty right now too, albeit boring. if he were to do the above, spare me the "this is how it is supposed to look" speech, buckle down to make this map different, he would make it as amazing as it should be.

There's new elements like water and stuff involved, plus the addition of rain and a forest setting. That should change the gameplay of a dustbowl styled map. In some places I don't even remember that part of DB, it looks aesthetically pleasing to me, something your maps cannot do.

You'd be surprised how much good looks can affect a map. I honestly think I wouldn't like sawmill at all if it had the desert theme.

It took me five minutes to realize that this is Dustbowl 3rd stage 2 point. Even mother would not recognize Dustbowl in finla, I think.

"After adding water and more weather effects to cp_Lushbowl (see previous videos) I decided to do an FPS test. I capped fps at 100 and then walked about the map. I also flagged every rain effect, gutter drip, splash, and ripple as a weather effect to keep those with low-end computers content with this work. (MEANING: you will be able to fully disable it using "disable weather effects" in your ADVANCED multiplayer options)
Performance is excellent and there is no major dip in any areas where a problem could arise (water and weather-wise). However this will vary for everybody with different computers and different graphics settings."
tldr; just a video i recorded while testing fps (you can barely see the teeny tiny results at the top right corner of the screen, so i guess you'll have to take my word for it), uploaded just to show off more pretty rain and ripples. Honestly I can listen to rain and storm sounds all day.
A few changes in particles and textures:

Also considered disabling things such as torch fires when you disable weather... because honestly if you're looking for an fps boost you're not gonna be missing out on anything by disabling torches too.
Yeah, the floor looked a bit unnatural with rock texture.

yeah, I got a lot of comments about it and looking back I agree with all of them.

Instead of a giant rocket op, why not make it a tall tree with a treehouse?
Instead of a giant rocket op, why not make it a tall tree with a treehouse?
Reposting since someone already asked:
The rocket is iconic and one half is in the gameplay while the other half is in the skybox so that you can see it from any part of the map. This poses two problems: I have to recreate a "goal" that is just as iconic and interesting looking as the rocket in a way that it doesn't lay on top of the control point and obstruct gameplay or magically float in the air; I also have to get it to line up properly in the skybox with the half of the object in the gameplay portion of the map which is extremely difficult to do (the bottom and top halves of the rocket were made for this, specifically). It also has to make sense.
Filed that under "unnecessary" and "too difficult" when I attempted such a thing. This is also the point where I decided this map will not be medieval, along with the removal of all the rest of the accessible/non-easter egg technological objects that actually make the map interesting to look at.
Tree obstructs gameplay due to it having to be planted in the ground, and there is no skybox version of foresty trees available.
If I was even more serious about the development of this map into something special and even more unique, I'd ask someone to create a really big tree, and a tiny version of that tree for the skybox. Some weird goal of "SAVE THE TREE." I'm not quite at that point yet.

Instead of criticizing why don't you actually say something constructive. You're saying all negatives about this map yet you cannot say one thing you'd rather be in it.
Your 'maps' look like a pile of shit. Instead of telling you on how to improve, I'll just say it looks like shit. Unless you can provide something with decent prop placement, better displacements, better lighting, and provide something appealing to look at (get a better computer), then I'll stick with my initial opinion on your map talents, which in this case seems pretty poor.
I think it would be interesting for the rocket to be a big uprooted tree suspended by ropes, wood, etc. When/if I get to my usual computer I'll draw you a concept.
I don't know if it fits with Team Fortress 2's sort of theme, unless you make it a "silly" jungle as opposed to a realistic one.

Oh, I see the screenshots. That's pretty good. I wish you would have incorporated a bit more industry into it, though - maybe make it look a bit more like a logging facility.
I loved everything except the stone textures. They seem out of place.
this is becoming my new favorite map.
think it needs more torches on strategic spots to light up arrows though. so both sides can take advantage of it.

The map looks great! Keep up the good work, but I'd like to see some more originality in this. If this is not what you're going for than by all means do not do it, disregard my opinion for what it is, an opinion.
I'd really like to see the structure ontop of the red spawn in the second CP changed, it looks really out of place to me, but then again if you don't want to do that, by all means do not!
The stone texture is also intrusive and wrecks the style you have going (which is great!) and I'd really like for it to be changed to something that doesn't penetrate your eye so much. Other than that the textures are doing an amazing job highlighting the key features in the map, which remain unchanged for the special gameplay that dustbowl has to offer.
The mid-eval wood is also out of place. It does not work well with the other textures you have, perhaps changing it to a different style of wood? But then again, you don't have to if it's not part of what you want to do. After all, you're in the drivers seat and I'm just the GPS offering suggestions!

Look here, young mapper! This doesn't really fit with the othet textures you have, perhaps you should change it! If I were in your position, I would leave it at a different concrete texture, perhaps even the default one. The floor is almost always the most overlooked part of a map, best to leave it that way. If you think I'm wrong, just leave it alright? No biggie!

Something about this building just feels, off. I can't place it, but it seems out of place to me. But hey, that's just my opinion. It could look great to everyone else which makes me wrong, so don't change it if you don't have to!

And there, this one should kind of speak for itself. I don't understand the theme you're going for, but I don't think this fits in any one of them. But youknow, I could be wrong. I'm probably wrong. Don't change a thing if you don't agree with me, it's just an opinion.
There we go! Hopefully that is constructive enough! :h:
why are you so mad and sour at me, dachande? :(

Logic doesn't live in TF2.
This makes the map seem so fresh. It shows how much is desert overused.
I always liked this theme of maps more than desert, by far.
