Are we even sure there will be an update? What if the passes are just distributed by Support?
At most, i expect a cosmetic update today. but if comp comes today. it's a sweetener. I can't bring myself to be hyped because of how valve works.
If at the last time as we know the main reason of delaying the update was a huge bug or something, then if it'll be delayed at this time... This would mean 1 of those 2 things :
1) The bug is still not fixed (and i can't belive that it already took them 1 week and they still haven't fix it yet)
2) Something else that we don't know.
3) There's still a small chance that it'll be released within 5 hours.

As amazing as Competitive Matchmaking will be, I genuinely don't think it will be as much as a 'game changer" unless something else comes with it, otherwise it's just a well, well overdue feature. (Seriously what took them so long?)

I'm fairly certain he enjoys being the center of attention right now. Bad publicity would still be publicity for him.
At best today is going to be a "Day 1 - Cosmetics!" kind of thing, as the "this [I]week[/I] is going to be a game changer" tweet.
If matchmaking is out by today I will be surprised.
where are people forging the idea that a huge matchmaking update is being released?
matchmaking is still in beta, the only tangible scenario is giving out random beta passes to people in the group. Anybody who thinks a full update or even cosmetics will be in it are fooling themselves

You have to remember that comp TF2 players have gone 8 years with little to no official support from Valve. Getting comp matchmaking in the game is a game changer for comp players.
Considering the type of audience that really gives a shit about comp they really don't have to emphasize the first requirement.
You could get a lot done in four months.
Learn to poorly speak a foreign language, for instance.
Learn to play dwarf fortress.
Watch the entirety of scrubs a few times over.
