its more they're sick of cheaters in their games and forcing them to register accounts to phone numbers is a massive hassle for people using alts and dodging vac bans
can you guys stop saying you NEED a smartphone. just use an android emulator and send the SMS to your flip phone or whatever you have if you want. the whole thing is still a hassle, sure, but it's not excluding you - just making it more annoying.

Up until this evening I did not own a cell phone of any kind, and I didn't want to redirect everything to one of my family member's numbers either.

Isn't there an entire program made to bypass Steam authenticator?
Isn't there an entire program made to bypass Steam authenticator?
Yep, Geel made it. However you still need to be able to receive SMS. Doesn't Google Voice do that?
The fact that steam constantly asks me to add a mobile number to my account and shoves the mobile authenticator into every service they provide is getting obnoxious.
Its purely to push the use of the market and in-game stores. Is it so easy to bypass steam guard that they force this on us for "security" reasons? If so i wanna see proof.

Guy's pretty optimistic, but I doubt it if he keeps posting shit like this
Isn't there an entire program made to bypass Steam authenticator?
Lemme just plug my Steam account details into this random-ass third party app.
What used to be a handful of hackers is now a highly effective, organized network, in the business of stealing and selling items. It would be easier for them to go after the users who don't understand how to stay secure online, but the prevalence of items make it worthwhile to target everyone. We see around 77,000 accounts hijacked and pillaged each month. These are not new or naïve users; these are professional CS:GO players, reddit contributors, item traders, etc. Users can be targeted randomly as part of a larger group or even individually. Hackers can wait months for a payoff, all the while relentlessly attempting to gain access. It's a losing battle to protect your items against someone who steals them for a living.
We can help users who've been hacked by restoring their accounts and items, but that doesn't deter the business of hacking accounts. It's only getting worse.
Good thing the source code for the SDA isn't nearly as complex as the source code for Linux, or you'd have a point!

I knew you would crack under pressure. Send a few keys my way and we can keep this on the down-low.
I know comp beta just got announced, and that's cool, but we still have an issue with Tough Break sales. A lot of people buy the ticket to do contracts, and I feel they need to be optimized more. Why can you only do a set amount? Not every contract needs a reward, they're just fun.
If they allow people to do as many as they want but limit rewards, it's basically the same thing but with more long time value. There's definitely some improvements that can be made, in any case.
I really hope that Valve doesn't do another "Gun Mettle" type update, at least for a while. The, in comparison to Gun Mettle, poorer sales of the Tough Break pass kind of add to the idea that people really don't care that much about skins now that the hype of them just having come out is gone. I mean, some of the new skins are nice and all, but I'd like to see actually new content getting added, and it being the center of attention, and not money-grabbing by putting wacky patterns on stock weapons.
I also don't think Matchmaking is going to come out with a major update, not to say it won't be major, more I think it'll most likely just sort of be added eventually without too much on the side. At most I can see is them adding, if they were to make it a major update, is new maps, specifically the normal versions of some of the Halloween maps, as they seem to be pretty popular in the competitive scene from what I gather. And I don't think they can really add new weapons or rebalance them as soon as they implement competitive, because in my opinion it really isn't a great idea to immediately 'shake things up' just as soon as you implement as big a feature that competitive will be, but I suppose it's still not outside the realm of possibility for them to do that either way.

The reason why Tough Break did worse than Gun Mettle was mainly because of the fact that the contracts are worse than the ones in featured in Gun Mettle, ontop of that, half the rewards are cases.
Because you know, paying to gain access to the campaign and then getting nothing but an item that requires you to spend more money on the game in order to get a skin in terrible condition is a good idea. :downs:
At least with the old crates you knew what to expect; hats, stranges or taunts. Now it's just, field-tested or battle-scared skinned weapons.
I wonder when cactus canyon and asteroid will be finished.[sp]Also i hope a MVM update happens this year.[/sp]

Whoever had the idea of paying to pay for keys should be shot.

I find it funny how back in the invasion update if anyone pointed out how paying for crates was dumb the vast majority of people would say lol jus sell the crates to make money back".
On a different note, I wonder when the next comic is coming out. Does anyone remember the plot from the last one?

Sort of, [sp]TF2 Soldier, Pyro, Spy, Demoman, Sniper and Ms. Pauling gets caught by TFC crew, who are being paid by Grey Mann. TFC Heavy turns on Grey Mann and kills him. TF2 Sniper, who got shot by the TFC crew, gets revived by the TF2 medic, who had been working with the TFC team previously. The TF2 team tries to escape, killing off TFC Pyro, Demoman and Spy during their attempted escape. They get caught by Grey Manns blood sucking robots (or something) who are now controlled by TFC heavy. The whereabouts of TF2 Heavy, Scout (last seen with Saxton Hale and his lady) and Engineer (hasn't been seen thus far) was not touched upon.[/sp]
I think that's about it, right?

Well it looks like they have been doing everything but the tf2 comic. I am not 100% sure who drew it, but CS:GO just got a comic for the new operation. Before that was the 100 page Dota comic (which was drawn by the tf2 artist). Looks like we are on track to wait just as long as we have for the other ones.
Can somebody explain me why they hate Steam Mobile Authenticator so much? I use it just fine. And I honestly don't understand the pitchforks. Maybe if you trade 5 times a second, yes. But for a person that trades once a week with friends and plays games, I don't see anything "THE WORST THING EVER" with it.
