So many times I used the app, friends would send me shitton of messages when i'm sleeping and then when I wake up, everyone gets angry at me because there were no notifications at all. This app is so full of bad design choices I wish they had an app only for the authenticator and another for mobile Steam.
They do actually. It comes installed with the Steam authenticator, at least for Android. Go to your app drawer and at the top go to 'Widgets'. Swipe until you find the Steam widget, then add it to your home screen. Now whenever you tap on the widget, it gives you your authenticator code without having to open the crappy app.

All I have to do is just turn on my phone screen. Not sure how I can explain how I got it to do that though, it just did it one day and hasn't stopped.
Didn't know about this, thank you so much.
Don't want to be that guy, but i told about that thing one or two times on older pages and one more time on this page and nobody gave a shit :v:

As for me, I don't get any mobile notifications from friends.

Regardless, the less I have to open that pile of steaming junk we like to call the Steam mobile app, the better.
I really don't mind using it. There's only a couple of things I hate about it. The first -- and I truly truly hate this -- is how it logs you onto friends no matter what. Even if you're fast and log off of friends right away, there's a delay before it actually logs you off. So tired of getting messages from people while I'm out eating with friends because I wanted to use my phone, etc etc. Also, it's one hell of a battery hog. Drains it fast, especially if you're doing a few trades. I think if I were big into trading, I would have to leave my phone plugged in constantly.
They did say next week - which means it could be any day.
Or any week, really :v:
I'm just wondering how much they've worked on the UI since our last patch 2-3 weeks ago.
I think it's in an alright stage for a beta. Only problem is map selection, but I'm not sure if that's intentionally not in there.

My old wifi router had to be turned off every so often. It would just quit working although it was plugged in.
Gullywash is still in the Attack/Defense playlist, smh valve
That's because Gullywash matches are usually a steamroll by one team
Honestly, what I am hyped the most about is the amount of depressed people saying "I got no pass" We wont hear of happy people saying they got the pass because they'll be playing. Its overwatch all over again

I don't get what's there to hype about competitive matchmaking It's not like it's fixing half of the weapons in this game being overpowered and underpowered. Mostly underpowered. It's going to still take a year or two for valve to even realize this once matchmaking is added since it's all automated robots at this point.
It's also not going to fix the complete destruction of community servers that basically killed my momentum to play
I don't get what's there to hype about competitive matchmaking
look. look. normally i don't agree when people get mad about people asking the same question over and over again because i get that not everyone has time to read everything that happens in this thread but zadrave you post here pretty frequently. surely you must know that this question is asked enough already in this thread with numerous answers.
Being able to hop into a server and not have to play against or with players who just installed the game 10 minutes ago is a huge thing.
Does it really have enough playerbase for it though? If I remember correctly most of the accounts nowadays are freemium accounts. A lot of competitive players either switched to CS:GO, are going to switch to Overwatch, or just stopped. I dunno. The problem is though there isn't too much of a playercount to begin with, there needs to be something that also appeals to new players. Not only that but returning players.
Does it really have enough playerbase for it though? If I remember correctly most of the accounts nowadays are freemium accounts. I dunno.
Theres lots to comp matchmaking, lots of people have already explained why its a huge deal a few pages back. TL:DR: - A sense of progression, keeping a player engaged to play. - Not Valve-Tier Server playerbase - probably more weapon/class balance - a lot more attention for TF2 = new + returning players.
The problem of players returning/new players being interested in joining (and staying) could be addressed by removing quickplay or adding community servers to the quickplay section, with a box you can check on the side that says 'Also show me Community made servers!' in it, outside of the whole matchmaking thing. I know of 30 people (not an exaggeration) who would gladly return to TF2 if community servers were able to be easily accessed like valve servers are. Who knows how many people think the same that have already left the game?
a box you can check on the side that says 'Also show me Community made servers!'
I'm pretty sure this is already an option, but it is hidden in the option menu somewhere.
Speaking of comp's new logo, the fixed version of the TF2 logo that I uploaded a while back has cleared the Google image cache. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1476897&p=48504618&viewfull=1#post48504618 The crooked logo is no longer the first result. Before: [t]http://i.imgur.com/N74SIQG.png[/t] After: [t]http://i.imgur.com/Hdtxk3M.png[/t] Hopefully, this won't happen again. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=48489167#post48489167 Unfortunately, the "Transparent" results have not updated the cache, but it should come soon.
I think the main reason why Valve don't adding something like "community servers quickplay option" is that there's always people who wants to shark someone, steal their account and etc. There's exploit, that i think everyone already heard about. It was found in 2010, and only got fixed in 2015. How it looks like : you're connecting to a server (your "trusted" friend send you IP and said : "connect it thru your console.") After you done that, you loosing your account within 5 hours. Valve is just to scared if those sharks will find counter-exploit to do that again.

It's called "not having the self-judgement to realize that a friend of yours is suddenly typing something and saying to "connect to this server" that you've never heard of and then wrecking yourself because you trusted a random link sent to you with no instigation." Like what the fuck dude, that's nowhere near the "main reason" why Valve didn't add that.
He means that if those servers can scam you off your shit if you console-connect, what's stopping them from registering into quickplay and scamming people joining through it? That would be an automated account farm, don't you think? Overall Source's server is broken af and they cannot allow people to register their servers to be connected to by default, since you know what happens then, if a malicious server gets registered. And yes, there is a bug that allows a server to AUTOMATICALLY write an executable to your startup directory WHILE YOU'RE STILL CONNECTING. One PC restart and you're done for.

The "main reason" Valve disabled community servers from Quickplay eligibility was because of the bloody HTML MOTD bullshit. Unskippable ads, etc.

It's can happen on any community server just right now if you're saying that it's still hasn't been fixed yet. Now i'm scared playing on random community servers... Btw if you're played on one server for a very long time and know that you can trust it, you can play on it as usual. I still can't understand how it hasn't been fixed yet. Knowing Valve, and how they really cares about OK NO THEY DON'T GIVE A PLUMP about that... Maybe you're right...
