can attest to being more evidence to being in the beta + contributor status
I can jump in with the contributors. I still have access to the beta, but the ques are taking forever that I actually haven't been able to join a match yet after the stress test ended. Anyone able to join a legit match after the stress test?
Nobody's queuing anymore, as the public test is over, and with that most of the people. I suppose we could have a contributor match, though that would take someone to set it up, most likely.

Quick question, were the metals at the end given out based on community average or a game-by-game basis?
Quick question, were the metals at the end given out based on community average or a game-by-game basis?
Looked like it just was a reward for who had the highest numbers in that match.
I had a lot of fun in my matches personally. Gonna need to get myself a mic soon though. Also for the future, if you're crashing, uninstall your HUD.

-snip, was confused-
Game by game.
It can't be that, otherwise we'd all get a few golds at the beginning, but I have a few friends w/o golds.

You think the medals may end up in item rewards maybe?
I think they're something like the little awards people can give to you in Counter-Strike; they don't mean anything but they are a little token of your "efforts."
I sure hope that there'll be stress-test for people in Europe, too. Also, just a question, did that "play comp" Button just appear? I dont have one on the menu.
Seems just owning a Self-Made can grant you beta access to competitive. As a result a handful of traders with Self-Made keys may access the beta at will at the moment.

I posted this to the TF2 subreddit, but I was wondering how I can change settings in a game run with -default, as it makes my performance in matchmaking tolerable. When I try to change them, it basically says that it's being ignored as the game is being run with -default as a parameter. How can I be able to change these settings/make a config that sets all the settings to the same as -default, with a few changes so I don't have ridiculous things like fov_desired 70, no quick-switch, and that sort of thing?
Looks like UEAKCrash is correct. I still have access to the comp beta, despite of not having a pass.

Every time you start the game type "exec (config name)" in console.
Create a config with any name except autoexec or the class names and out relevant commands in there. Thanks for helping, though!
Could anyone access stress test at the time? I mean f2ps for example?
Yes, I could tell by my teammates :) Yeah, but a lot of people in the chats of my games were confused to what this even was. I'm thinking passes are a good idea...
Yeah, I'm pretty sure contributors/ people with self-mades are still able to get in. I've got a proper beta pass myself, but I've heard of others able to get who fit the bill.
I don't suppose Saxxies count as actual contribution? :V

I can still click Beta and try to join a match but it says nobody's playing. Does that mean I still have to wait for another stress test?
I can still click Beta and try to join a match but it says nobody's playing. Does that mean I still have to wait for another stress test?
contributors have access to beta now. but no one is playing anyway. would need to organize to have a match
Has there been any comment from Matt regarding whether or not that "game changer" he referred to is still looming ahead of us? I would like to anticipate something that has a broader impact on the game.
I wonder why they didn't announce any updates on this stuff via tf2 blog post
Those that have played the stress test, I'm really worried about performance in MM matches after seeing Star_'s stream on it, especially remembering mattrod's tweets about the mode facing performance issues. How was your game's performance while playing? Star has a pretty beastly PC, and I've never seen him suffer from huge framerate drops even on crowded 24-man pubs, yet during a 6v6 match on Viaduct he was getting huge drops at mid from 120 to 90 and consistently down to 40-50 range (where you could visibly tell he was lagging). Now it's true that he was running the game in DX9 in 1080p on max/high settings (but I consider that the performance benchmark for this game), whereas someone like B4nny is running a very low resolution and a DX9 fps config that makes everything look blurry and shit, and Viaduct is a demanding map in terms of framerate at mid, but... I can get 60+ fps on the same settings Star_ uses, at all times on Viaduct mid on a full 24-man server, are you telling me that the simple addition of MM and those pre-game/post-game menus and victory screens somehow managed to screw performance so bad that it made a powerful gaming rig (better than mine) suffer huge drops down to the 40s in a small, 12-man server? 6v6 games have always run flawlessy for me due to a relatively low player count, the only noticeable drops I've ver experienced happen on larger, spammy 20+ player servers. Ofc it was just one guy streaming a few rounds on a single map that is known to occasionally hurt fps at mid, but I'm really, really worried about the game's performance in MM after seeing that. TF2 should never lag or have massive frame drops on a 12-man server if you have anything close to a modern PC, please don't tell me that's gonna be a reality.

Matchmaking seemed to have run much worse then it should have, I even noticed some screen tearing, which shouldn't be happening because I have vsync enabled. I didn't actually run the game with the FPS counter enabled so I couldn't say 100% for sure but it certainly seemed worse to me then what I normally get in a 24 person pub.
I think this whole Competitive Beta is, imo, a giant test for TF2; if the beta is a success (and by that i mean lots of people doing ranked games), Valve will probably port TF2 to Source 2. If not, they'll just continue to fix the game with gaffer tape.
