I run TF2 with pretty much all settings maxed out and normally in pubs it runs pretty well for me, usually near 60 fps most of the time with it dropping when there is a lot of heavy action on the screen. Matchmaking seemed to have run much worse then it should have, I even noticed some screen tearing, which shouldn't be happening because I have vsync enabled. I didn't actually run the game with the FPS counter enabled so I couldn't say 100% for sure but it certainly seemed worse to me then what I normally get in a 24 person pub.
Christ that sounds like an awful omen. I mean, yeah, it's just two cases of anecdotal evidence, and the thing is still in Beta. But how the hell does a 12-man mode run worse than 24-man pubs, dude. One thing you could always count on with TF2 was that relatively low player numbers didn't tank your fps. They better improve that, it'll be an absolute insult and a mockery to force those of us that have no major performance issues in full 24-man servers to run ugly fps configs to get a stable framerate for a 12-player mode. But hey, those medals and fancy performance stats/tables obviously and logically lead to butchered performance. Somehow. Apparently.
Competitive forces ragdolls, gibs, and (i think) dynamic shadows to be on. Along with the DX9 requirement, which has more complex rendering (phong, rimlight, etc.), that would explain performance issues in MM. Also, the "performance update" still hasn't come yet.

No performance configs, so MM wouldn't be forcing any new taxing/demanding settings on me.

Then, you can run the timedemo command and it should spit out average frames per second along with a CSV spreadsheet. Repeat the process with a non-MM demo you recorded, then compare and post results. Otherwise, it might have just been placebo. Or you were paying extra attention to MM to see if there was a performance difference.
What is this referencing?
Overwatch.
It's TF2 characters (Sniper and Medic) crossed/mixed with their Overwatch counterparts. Good choice of thread to post it in, too.
It would have been nice of them to do the stress test when most of Europe was awake. Oh well.
Pretty sure they chose that time to eliminate EU players and keep pings at least a bit consistent.
Pretty sure they chose that time to eliminate EU players and keep pings at least a bit consistent.
The irony is that I've seen and heard many US players still ending up in Brazilian and EU servers anyway. Those games streamed by Star_ I mentioned (with Tagg, M3laa, truktruk etc.) they ended up in Brazil twice and EU twice from like 8 rounds. I guess there were simply that many Americans trying out MM at that point that the 200 or so servers they had reserved for the stress test simply weren't enough at that point.
15 days. Wow. No. Fuck you, Valve.
Wow. Okay Valve sorry I don't have a fucking phone capable of using your shit.
Pretty sure they chose that time to eliminate EU players and keep pings at least a bit consistent.
I'm in Europe and I constantly got into European servers with other Europeans, so that doesn't really fly. Except for that one utterly confused 380 ms Australian I played with.

At this point, if you wanna ever perform a trade or a Market transaction, you'll pretty much have to cave in and either use the real Steam Authenticator app, or use the Desktop authenticator workarounds (if you have a WP or an older dumb phone). Nobody will want to trade with you if you have a 15-day escrow trade hold. Trust me, 95% of people blocked the simplest of trade offers when I had a 3-day hold. The 15-day delay essentially makes you an ostracized leper when it comes to any form of trading. It's not just an incovenence, it makes you essentially unable to trade in practice. I'm using the Desktop Authenticator thingy from Geel, and I hope to god they don't eventually crack down on it, or malicious people find a way to abuse it for account thefts. It already defeats the purpose of 2-step verification, but I have no other choice atm as money's short and I'm stuck with an older dumb phone. Yet due to it being a MM Beta requirement (Why the fuck, btw?) and essentially a prerequisite for even basic forms of trading, I'm forced to use these authenticators. What happens if, hypothetically, something goes wrong with the unofficial Desktop Authenticator solutions and Valve either ban a bunch of people for it, or somebody compromises these desktop apps to gain access to accounts? Valve tying access to an actual gamemode in TF2 (MM) to having an Authenticator enabled, indirectly forcing many people that don't have android/iOS smartphones to use workaround/risky solutions just to play the new mode, could essentially contribute to a lot of shitstorm in the future. Losing the ability to trade is one thing, but losing the future ability to play a new game feature like MM is another. I've never had an account hicjacked before, and try my best to stay safe, but it's not a very good feeling that I'm using a 3rd party app that could potentially be targeted as a weak link by account thieves at some point in the future.
Interesting that performance is not good, because I had been trying to play On regular low settings before the stress test, getting awful performance like drops to 20 in pubs, but once I tried competitive I never dropped below 50.
Did anyone else get extreme stutering bad fps, and performance issues during the stress test? I asked my friends and the server I joined and they said it was just me.
So let's be honest here Competitive CTF is actually pretty fun.
So let's be honest here Competitive CTF is actually pretty fun.
Anything is funner than pub ctf honestly
I had a constant 120~ fps with almost max settings from what I see
Do you have a nvidia card?
I got to play 2 rounds of Competitive doublecross and wow, It was refreshing to see a CTF match that isn't a spamfest and an eternal stalemate. I'm really digging matchmaking and I can't wait for the full thing to come out.
I saw some people stuttering when I died and spectated my teammates, so it's probably not just you Firetornado.
I saw some people stuttering when I died and spectated my teammates, so it's probably not just you Firetornado.
OK good, I was worried, thanks.
Do you have a nvidia card?
Yea and I have a seemingly very limited config on TF2 (as in it doesn't reduce like anything)
Yea and I have a seemingly very limited config on TF2 (as in it doesn't reduce like anything)
I think it may be affecting AMD harder then, I can usally run the game on max settings but in comp its unplayable, and my other AMD friend has the same problem. :-(
I don't have the option to turn 5 Market-bought, currently untradable Freelance skins into a Stat Clock tool. Is that a temporary bug due to the items being untradable atm, or are Market-bought skins bugged in that regard for the near future?
