I think it's only because they're untradable off market for a bit, other people had that issue too.

15 days.
Wow. No. Fuck you, Valve.
I'm probably extremely late when i say this, but they should really try to make another way for people to verify shit, not everyone can afford a cell phone. I realize that it defeats the purpose of having another verification step off of your main PC to avoid compromise, but there has to be some other way to do it.
The Escrow system is completely bullshit, and unfair to roughly 50% of the steam user base. Especially the users that have tight money situations in real life.

If it's that tight you shouldn't be thinking about games and Steam at the first place, i think...
For those will lousy performance in matchmaking, try -default. It just improved my FPS in general, going from 60 fps on a pub to 110, and matchmaking's fps becoming playable.

Since when is buying a cell phone expensive? Some companies are literally releasing android phones for $5-10 right now.

Since you really want a RL example...
I've poured most of my recent expendable money into getting a new gaming PC, a new laptop, and a few new games over the course of the last 2 years. Have been w/o a job and steady income for the past 5 months, finishing studies in a rough economy.
Stuck with an old, but perfectly usable 2011-era Nokia for the past few years. Planning on getting a new android phone, but from what I've been looking at, the decent ones that'll last you a while go for 300-400 Euros. Rather wait a few more months and buy one of those than buy some cheap, used crap for a 100. Heard bad things about cheaper androids from people that had issues with them after a year or two. Not buying some used crap for Steam authentication alone.
As you can see, a fancy cell phone takes lower priority for me when it comes to upgrading my tech, especially in the current financial situation.
Your implied argument about how ''if you can't afford a few hundred Euros for a smartphone, than you don't deserve to properly use existing Steam features and/or existing Steam games you own'' is dumb on so many levels.
Trading item for item without a fuss in a game I already have Premium status in (TF2) doesn't involve spending any more money. If the future Competitive Matchmaking mode requires a smartphone/authentication (I do use Geel's Desktop variant by the way, just using your implied example about how every Steam user needs to have a smartphone or fuck off with trying to use features that don't even cost money), I wouldn't be able to use it without a workaround due to not owning a smartphone.
How dare I want to play MM without even owning a phone like that, poor and irish beggar, right?

Poors don't deserve to have fun.
I don't even own a smartphone either and I'm able to use the shitty flip phone's phone number and a desktop authenticator.

here's the full tutorial on how to do it
Headin' towards the end of this thread. Any ideas for new thread titles?
Feel like I should work in flame/mattr0d somehow. "Matchmaking Aflame" or something
You should operate under the assumption that the SDA provides extra functionality but reduced security.
Everyone should operate with a habit to check the program's source code instead of shittalking (which is, in my opinion, understandable for any user speaking English (speaking of C#)). And if it's not reachable, decompilers are a thing.

The issue isn't "will the SDA steal my account details," the issue is "if I get a virus, I'm fucked."

"Matchmaking: Now with CTF_Doublecross!"
I hope there's a more EU friendly stress test at some point soon but there probably won't be. :(
Hope they start dishing out those passes soon. :D

Matchmaking: Now Featuring Passtime!
Played like three matches last night. Even though I kept getting shoved into Luxembourg servers, still had a lot of fun. Particularly a match where I got to experience COMPETITIVE DOUBLECROSS
I had to play Doublecross twice. I really genuinely hope that Valve removes CTF from Matchmaking.
The first time around on Doublecross, this one guy got really pissed at me for going Engineer, even though I told him that it's Capture the Flag and the cap would be gone in seconds if nobody was defending. Of course, he didn't let up, I changed class, and we lost the match. Second time around I went Engineer and we did marginally better, but they had a competent team and we didn't, so we lost, I bottomscored which hurt a bit but mostly because it was CTF and I had no idea what I should be doing in 6v6 CTF, and I was still completely unused to having to use the default HUD again.
The second time on Doublecross one guy, don't ask me what he was thinking, went FRIENDLY HEAVY and expected the rest of the team to follow suit, both us and the enemy very much disliked him being there. I was going Soldier at the time, and I noticed an enemy Scout killing our friendly Heavy, I probably would have had an easy time killing him, but I was grateful for what he had done, so we thanked eachother, and he hopped off. We lost the matchup again, I got 3rd worst, bottom score being the friendly Heavy and the second bottom score was our Engineer, because it really looks like if you're going to be playing Engineer on Matchmaking CTF you're pretty much giving up the ability to get a good score for just sitting around, waiting for something to happen, lest the enemy take the intel.
Luckily, the last game I played was on Viaduct. I had gone Gunslinger Engineer, and similarly to the first time around somebody had pointed that out and called me out for being 'useless'. I told him that, as an Engineer main, it was 'my time to shine', and unlike the first guy he eventually agreed to let me stay Engineer. The Medic pretty much refused to heal me, but we ended up winning and I managed to pull in a smooth second-best top score, which pulled my self-esteem up a bit after having not done so well in the last two matches.
I never experienced that much lag, actually. The computer I use is new, but it's by no means a powerhouse, everybody I played with had somewhat bad ping, so there was of course some lag, but it was still completely playable.

I've seen numerous people saying "I won't put my steam login into a random app". And yes, I'm refering to an user on facepunch here with this quote, but I've seen this worded differently a lot of times. People don't trust your application, simply put. They have a "valid" reason though.

I mean, that's completely understandable. I would hope my reputation and the nature of open-source would provide a fair amount of credibility but ultimately you have to trust me with your account details to some degree.

I was talking about people with really tight money situation and you post a wall of text where you tell me a story about your new PC, new laptop and that you don't want a low tier smartphone now because you probably will be able to afford a good one in near future and then call your economy "rough"? That makes a lot of sense...
P.S. It might be "rough" personally for you, but you have like as twice stuff as many other people just dream to have and from my standpoint that's not rough for sure. If you dont have money on hands that doesn't mean your economy is rough - you still have property that has the same value as money spent on that property had, while poor people don't! Just in case, underlining again, i was talking about people with really tight money situation.

Fair enough, I went on too much of a rant anyway :) Let's hope this thread doesn't end with off-topic discussions on the criteria of being in a tight spot financially, heh.
doublecross is a fun map though
Super small update just came in for me. Anyone got anything on that?
^This fucking right above me suggested I posted this in here instead of General Chat.
I have this thing in my inventory according to TF2 Outpost, but it's not in my actual inventory. Anybody knows what it is?

How about you let someone else create the thread for once?
END JETAMO'S THREAD MONOPOLY

MUS 31: Stress Test
(I like "Gamechanging Edition" better, this is just an alternate idea)

Here's why I take the thread - so the OP gets actually updated, so people don't derail it with random bullshit like the thread was so prone to around Meet your Makers/Invasion. No 3+1 = ARG confirmed bullshit.
[editline]2nd March 2016[/editline]
But if someone wants to take it and A. Keep the OP updated with relevant information and B. Not be a dickwad with it then sure, go ahead.
I've got the thread OP saved in a text-file here, if anyone wants it.
