[QUOTE=Snowshoe;49377169]The point is Valve is not going to stop making weapon skins and tiers.[/QUOTE] Difference is that new skins don't really hurt the game unlike the retiring of old hats, and I think we have enough evidence to show that tiered items were long in the game before Valve decided to highlight the fact with added colors [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] [QUOTE=SLBros.;49377223]The point is, there wasn't a point It could have never happened and things would still be the same[/QUOTE] There was obviously a point to limiting the gain of those hats, one could deduce they did so to raise their price on the market and thus gain extra $$$
I think tiers should only exist on content that was designed around said rarity levels in the first place, like skins. Extra things like tiered strange parts or other customizations for other items would also be fine, but I don't like tiers on entirely new items that weren't designed with tiers in mind. I wish Valve would listen to that feedback while keeping in mind people still like (or at least don't mind) tiers under certain contexts such as weapon skins.
Anybody else still hasn't received their 5th contract? People have been claiming to have their 5th since the weekend, and I still haven't gotten mine while logging in every day and playing an hour at least. It's almost Thursday here... It feels like the actual timing of contracts is all over the place for different users, unlike Gun Mettle. Back then, you could be sure that a new contract would appear at a specific hour on a specific day, and the next time you logged, it would be waiting for you in the main menu. But now, I haven't seen anyone work out a definitive day/hour when the new contracts drop, and people report different times and contract count. It isn't just me, last week loads of people were reporting already having a 4th while others had only 3 at the time. I think this randomness of appearing started with the Halloween contracts, when a new contract would often only pop up after 30+ minutes of playing, even though other players had confirmed there was a new one out. Sucks if you don't have a lot of time to play and just wanna start up TF2 to get a contract - during GM, you could be sure it would be already waiting for you in the menu, but now they just seem intent on showing up whenever they please.
[QUOTE=Snowshoe;49375848]Cosmetic cases should not have tiers either. Regular crates (with equal drop rates) and shuffle crates have already shown a positive response in the community. Having items extremely rare for no reason is just unfair to the people that happen to like it. Look at the Batsaber for instance. It's also sad to see there are no more taunt crates for the new taunts. Unusual taunts are basically abandoned as a result of this. Plus, it forces everyone to pay/trade at store prices, which are not cheap.[/QUOTE] Cosmetic Cases should not exist. Hats should be relegated to crates only as they have been in the supply series or special series like Strongbox, EOTL or Coolers. I personally think that while the shuffle system and unlocked crates system was popular, they should be reserved to events and the like, or to specialty items, like taunts. Unlocked crates was a great way of doing the Halloween cosmetics, but for most updates, there are not enough hats added to justify each class getting its own crate. The only issue with the shuffle crates is that because people can figure out codes and then publicize the most profitable ones, the true equal chances that crates like the Limited Late Summers, Appetizers and Naughty/Nice crates have would go out the window as people input codes to just unbox what is most profitable. Personally I think that the best way of doing crates containing uniform contents (all hats, all festives, all stranges, all taunts) is to equalize the chances, like they have been for years. And it is astounding that after the success of Love and War they went from releasing taunts in the store and in crates, to now just store only. [QUOTE=Snowshoe;49375848]Unusual weapons could have been their own thing just like Australiums, as a rare loot reward for the contracts. Decorated weapon skins really have no place in this game, especially with all the pointless wears that hardly matter in TF2's cartoony/illustrative style. The shoehorned presence of them just screams lack of originality. All of those problems aside, the main issue is people are just not interested in skins. Just look at the market, which has essentially become a junkyard for all of the skins people don't want (and believe me, there's a lot of them).[/QUOTE] It would be great if Gunmettle (in the form of skins, at least) had never happened. Now that they are in there is no chance of ever getting them out, and the very inclusion of them is most certainly something that changes how TF2 is looked at. It's especially annoying when it is considered that basically Unique stock weapons have loads of different skins, while items of actually different qualities all look the same. I may be wrong, but I believe at some point in the past I read about something Robin had said along the lines of wanting to have different looks to different qualities to distinguish them from normal weapons. Looks like at this point the opposite was done. Personally I think that if the right kinds of skins are chosen, limited to only 3 wear levels, and not the only thing dropped from contracts (part of the saturation of the market is because there are basically 26 skins per person who buys into the campaign, not to mention countless unboxings) this may be less of an issue. Plays back into the point that skins are literally all CSGO has, therefore it makes sense that there is a lot of variety. TF has plenty of other things besides skins, so we certainly don't need as much as we have been getting. [QUOTE=Snowshoe;49375848]It's sad to see the TF Team undo literally years of work, trying to reinvent TF2's economy in a vain attempt to make it popular like a certain other multiplayer shooter. TF2 was doing just fine in 2014. :s:[/QUOTE] Couldn't agree more. [QUOTE=Firetornado;49376847]Since Valve Actually reads r/tf2, you should post this there.[/QUOTE] I plan to make a video about this where I can go more in depth and better explain things. There's far more to this issue of just how radically different the game now is than what I've said here.
I've yet to get my fifth contract either.
[QUOTE=Chrytin;49377298] There's far more to this issue of just how radically different the game now is than what I've said here.[/QUOTE] Yeah, but all of your arguments so far have concerned the cosmetic/business model side of the game. For making such grand claims about how ''radically different the game is'', you sure aren't adressing the balance changes, actual gameplay in any form, or how the playerbase in general has largely moved (and been herded/encouraged by Valve) over to Valve servers, causing the slow, gradual dying off of most community servers that were once the bread and butter of TF2. That's by far the biggest change in the nature of (pub) TF2 and its playerbase in the last cca. 2 years, if you ask me.
[QUOTE=Stric_Matic;49377326]Yeah, but all of your arguments so far have concerned the cosmetic/business model side of the game. I bring up Business model here because it is most of what has been getting discussed in the wake of the Festivizer and Tough Break. There is a noticeable direction to the way they are balancing weapons (across the board nerfs and reworks of items that have been relatively unchanged for the better part of 5 years) and the stifling of anything community is a whole other topic entirely. There's a reason that Hydro and Arena are dead, and it's largely because Valve wont support them officially.
[QUOTE=Chrytin;49377385]There's a reason that Hydro and Arena are dead, and it's largely because Valve wont support them officially.[/QUOTE] or to the majority of players they aren't fun at all
Yeah, the reason that Hydro/TC and Arena aren't popular is because people just straight up don't like playing on it. 9 times out of ten during a impromptu map test on the TF2M servers an arena map will end up making roughly half the people on it disconnect.
[QUOTE=Davoc;49375684]Infinity years since spy weapons. I just want an interesting new watch.[/QUOTE] After what they did with the Phlog (and also that Revolver in CS:GO), I rather not want any new weapons for a while. Seems too dangerous. :v:
After 5+ years of unboxing, I just unboxed my first unusual [t]http://i.imgur.com/i5PACUB.png[/t] [sp]what do i do with this now other than put lights on it[/sp]
[QUOTE=Mikemaximum;49377942] what do i do with this now other than put lights on it[/QUOTE] [sp]put lights on it[/sp] edit: thanks for putting lights on it

This game crashes a lot for me after the update. Just got an Engine Error "Out of Memory."
Hey isn't B4nny streaming comp right now? edit: he's about to start right now. I highly recommend watching
b4nny confirmed dx9 is required for matchmaking more updates to follow as I watch the stream [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] He says this is because they want to standardize the appearance of the game and ensuring performance. Twitch streams will be featured in the main menu. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] TF2 will be receiving "a lot" more attention post mm
Just noticed, the shotgun shells are now coming out the the scattergun itself, instead of Scout's face like they used to. [T]http://i.imgur.com/jY8Uekq.jpg[/T]
Valve is reportedly worried about graphics quality in TF2 and it not aging well, which is why dx8 is a no-go. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Performance will continue to be worked on.

Custom HUDs will continue to be allowed. B4nny had to convince the TF2 team this.
[URL="http://www.twitch.tv/b4nny"]http://www.twitch.tv/b4nny[/URL] for those wanting to watch the stream. Custom huds are acceptable for comp according to him.
Matchmaking has restrictions on some commands (new version of sv_pure). This is done to prevent crashes. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Viewmodel fov will be capped at 75. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Hidden viewmodels may be disabled. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Transparent viewmodels will be added as a feature
Valve is considering adding transparent viewmodels as an official option.
Weapon bans and class limits: -no weapon bans -no class limits Valve is still working on this. Further tests are needed. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Custom maps will not be in matchmaking, including pro versions. Stock versions of maps will be updated. For example, if the tunnel on viaduct is popular it will be added into stock viaduct [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Com passes have been given to ~25 people. B4nny has been given passes to give to people himself. The beta will be "rapidly expanded" [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] Crits and spread disabled. Custom hitsounds will work. Custom files will work "within reason". Matchmaking ranks will be per player. b4nny has one rank only, not a separate rank per class. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] 9v9 might not be included. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] He is beginning to play now. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] The comp button is under co-op on the main menu. Board looks like what we already know. There are 107 mm servers right now. [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] There is no set sizes for queues. Valve can add 4v4, 1v1 if they want.
Here's how the matchmaking board looks like right now [IMG]http://imgur.com/gzdztEj.jpg[/IMG]
the matchmaking background is the loading screen background for mm [editline]23rd December 2015[/editline] There is a ready up system a la mvm.
i cant wait to see how much more attention TF2 will be getting.
No abandoning servers
