What if we organized an event, something like what have been done for HL in the past, when people from all over the world started playing HL2 and reached something like 20,000 players? Maybe if we hit 100,000 that would bring attention of TF2 team, and they would organize some Q/A / AMA / Whatever.

TF2 already has around a million players every day. I don't see what getting people (who most likely are already playing TF2 anyways) into an event would do.
Now, a solely bug-focused event with, like, challenges, rewards, and stuff? That could maybe work, but not just "let's all play TF2 and see if Valve notices".
a solely bug-focused event
We're one nisilt video away from every valve server being a 12v12 crouch-bug out-of-bounds battle already.
I've dreamed of a community bugfixing update for a while now

You gotta source for that?

Thought it was like 60,000 at any given time during the day on average

That's because You're right and this guy is just bullshitting. You can check official Steam statistics. We demand love for our game - but maybe we should first give it some love? That's why I exposed my idea.
Really off topic but was the saunte taunt for spy added or not
Like in the game files

1 million unique players a day is definitely too high, according to SteamSpy there has been about 1.6 million unique TF2 players in the last 2 weeks.

It was hinted at in texture files in Scream Fortress 2015, not to mention the taunt was updated the same moment as the Boston Breakdance and Most Wanted taunts, but not accepted into that update. It's safe to say it is being tested and altered by Valve for a future update, and has been planned since March.
Valve has banned CSGO community servers from having cosmetic mods. It will be interesting to see if they do the same thing to TF2 (or if they back down due to negative feedback from the community).
But why would they even do that? Mods are part of what makes TF2 fun for me. Please don't take it from community servers. It was bad enough not having it on valve servers anymore.

Valve wants you to pay for there ugly skins, not use your own that you may have made or found yourself

i thought that was old news, they're only banning servers that offers skins for free or via donations, not your client side skins (i thought they did that too to tf2 but with hats and you guys did the same response without reading more about it)

I'd be fine with banning those servers who give "unusual effects" or "hats" as donator perks.

Huh. That's actually the reason I stopped playing CSGO -- my fav servers all installed mods that changed the teams into various non-CSGO characters, and you couldn't disable it. It was insanely frustrating to get killed because you had to stop to think whether Ada Wong was a terrorist model or not.
I strongly doubt they will ban it for TF2. A tremendous number of mods actually end up on the workshop, so modding generates more content for TF2. That wasn't the case for CSGO at all. [Edit] Okay, I've misread -- they're not affecting client side skins. My bad.

I thought that's what they already did back when they made changes to the quickplay system to not allow servers that are "Granting or modifying economy items, or taking actions that devalue players' items, or interfering with the TF2 economy." Considering how pissed most of these shitty server owners were about their precious quickplay traffic and MOTD money.
I would like to see their reactions if they were to get banned.
"[To clarify: it is also not acceptable to provide players with custom models and/or weapon skins that do not exist in the CS:GO ecosystem]"
So, re-RIP weaponiser if we get this?

This is banning those servers altogether, not just from quickplay.
Is there a good use for server side mods on normal gameplay?
You mean cosmetic server side mods? Because normal server mods have a myriad of uses.
