Swordsman Class: Origin: Uk or Scotland Background: he is like a history buff or obsessed with swords and collecting them, does professional fencing and is the best fencer in the world or something. Mercenary on the side because of his fencing skills. (hey its tf2 crazier stuff has happend)
It would be amazing if the TF team just reused the demoman model and switched his eye patch to the right eye.
Our we could, you know, not post at all when there's nothing to speculate about.
but if i dont shitpost at at least 50 shitposts per hour my heart will stop
So since this thread is in a sort of limbo while waiting for competitve, I thought I would share an Idea I had and see what you guys thought. CrossPosted From r/tf2 My Extremely unpopular opinion/idea (probably) Please valve, Make Demoknight its own class, and make Demoman a demolitions man again. I am tired of the lack of sticky launchers and grenade launcher options for Demoman, I know they are hard to come up with stats for but hes supposed to be a demolitions man not a swordsman. Plus demoknight plays entirely different to Demoman. So my suggestion is make the 9th class called the Swordsman The Swords Man Update: New map: Set In Scotland somewhere in the wilderness, a castle theme maybe. New Weapon: The Sabre Left click to rapidly swing sword right click to swing slower but do more damage Stats: [insert percent here] faster movement speed while active (idk Im bad at stats but you get the idea, its a fencing sword) Also add in a new sticky launcher or grenade launcher for Demoman to compensate. Swordsman Class: Origin: Uk or Scotland Background: he is like a history buff or obsessed with swords and collecting them, does professional fencing and is the best fencer in the world or something. Mercenary on the side because of his fencing skills. (hey its tf2 crazier stuff has happend) Voice: Witty British guy Abilities: Just port over all the Demomans swords and shields, and add in the sabre melee. Also Swordsman would have a block ability that can parry other melee attacks or something. Thank you for reading this idea that will never happen, but its fun to discuss anyway. Please give feedback below. Edit: and I know this would fuck over comics, but honestly there is only 2 issues left and gameplay is more important. Edit: I also know there will never be a 10th class, just wanted to discuss my idea.
i agree with demoknight being his own class but not the item, also if hes going to be hos own class he should be buffed back on line with other classes so he would be actually viable, oh and replace the charge based upsides on the booties with 30% sticky jump resistance and leave them on sticky demo bootieknight can go. remove resistances and give him 200 hp by default make tide turner"pre double nerf" the stock shield and screen based upon it, targe can get some new gimmick to make it the defensive shield but in a way thats not braindead resists add increased knockback while charging a few other tweaks and as for the class himself, make him tavishes long lost brother or something, also denerf loose cannon and make it a knight weapon. only weapon, every other launcher can be shared. As for melees knight would get the claid, eyelander, persuader, skullcutter, and have a new default melee thats just extra melee range,. Knight can share the zatoichi with stock demo. Sticky demo can get new launchers that utilise mouse 2 now that charge isnt a thing for him, and knight can get a grenade launcher that benefits from charging somehow. Oh and sticky demo keeps the base jumper. Really making knight his own class and not just the shadow of stock demo opens up lots of options for both classes, so many balance issues come from them being one class right now and in hindsight valve should have made him his own class from the beginning.
So my suggestion is make the 9th class called the Swordsman
but we already have 9 classes...
Demoknight should be it's own thing but it too much work for Valve. New model, animations and shitton of voice recording not only for the new class. V down: He could be throwing axes instead. And they still could fly the same way as the grenades do.

By separating the class, we'd be unable to have the grenade launcher demoknight.
Should I post this idea in tf2c thread?
I can see this working for something like TF2C, but demoknight is fine as is now. By separating the class, we'd be unable to have the grenade launcher demoknight.
Why cant we just make them share the grenade slot, Demo and soldier share the base jumper and zatoichi, multiple classes share the shotguns. Honestly the concept of a melee only attacking class will always be garbage so just make the booties demos gunboats and let bootieknight fade away.

I don't think many people combine sticky/booties or sticky/sword.
Can someone remind of the place where you can get yourself a handy email subscription to hlds for tf2 updates or whatever that's called?
By sharing the grenade slot there's almost no point in creating a separate class. I don't think many people combine sticky/booties or sticky/sword.
Engineer and scout both have shotguns and pistols, are they the same class?
Can someone remind of the place where you can get yourself a handy email subscription to hlds for tf2 updates or whatever that's called?
I like to use this Twitter account. I get notifications sent to my phone, so it's great. I could probably follow the HLDS or whatever, but this works fine for me!
Hey so when's miss pauling gonna ditch the santa hat? It's well past christmas by now :I
Engineer and scout both have shotguns and pistols, are they the same class?
Engineer has buildings and scout has speed/jumps. What does the split demoknight have that wouldn't be solved by just remaining the demoman? [editline]g[/editline] Come to think of it, it would aid visibility issues. No more would you worry about a demo with a grenade launcher being able to charge or not (the shield is not a big enough tell) I just don't think creating a knight class is feasible in TF2s current state. If valve did it from the getgo it would've been best, as you said.
Should I post this idea in tf2c thread?
I don't think so. He's just kidding, i guess.

I sort of want to be the new "notifies facepunch of tf2 update incoming" guy, as well as the new "update thread" guy :P
Isn't that wickedplayer494? What ever happened to him?
Isn't that wickedplayer494? What ever happened to him?
Banned for being a bad poster.
Isn't that wickedplayer494? What ever happened to him?
He was banned for being an awful human being.
Nothing of value was lost.
I know they won't since it defeats valves whole system but do you think after opening we'll say 5 skin crates you could atleast be guaranteed a strange item?
Isn't that wickedplayer494? What ever happened to him?
4th post in this thread: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1501338
Hey so when's miss pauling gonna ditch the santa hat? It's well past christmas by now :I
But its still 11 months away! Valve's gotta wait!
bootieknight can be made good by making the boots not have terrible stats. we're not quite there yet. oh no we already changed topic
Heres where you sign up for the mailing list. https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds_announce
bootieknight can be made good by making the boots not have terrible stats. we're not quite there yet. oh no we already changed topic
The overwatch devs pretty much nailed why melee only offense class is bad.
but there was this expectation of Genji as the katana hero. And we tried various tunings of him running around with the katana and it never really worked, because he has crazy good mobility, his mobility is off the charts. You add the katana to it, and we were constantly in this weird balance stage of either it murdered everybody right away and it felt completely imbalanced, or we would tune it to the point where he's like hacking away, like "Oh my god, are you dead yet?". So the biggest shift was when we were like, wait a second, what if we had that glorious moment where you could just murder people with the katana, but let's make it his ultimate, let's make it a big call-out moment where he pulls out the sword and the dragon comes out. It was really fun, then we added the shurikens for his primary fire and it was awesome, and as soon as we made that switch the character started to feel like he was playing correctly to us.
tldr: a melee only class in a ranged game is destined to be either complete trash only good against bad players, or stupidly good and annoying to deal with for both good and bad players alike.
The overwatch devs pretty much nailed why melee only offense class is bad. tl:dr, a melee only class is destined to be either complete trash, or stupidly good and annoying to deal with.
demoknight often manages to be both
demoknight often manages to be both
Naw, especially after tough break he is definitely in the trash section, as long as you havent unbound your A and D keys anyway.
Demoknight is still an excellent fighter, just dont expect to pull anything off on Payload.
Naw, especially after tough break he is definitely in the trash section, as long as you havent unbound your A and D keys anyway.
Booties+Splendid Screen+Eyelander is a strong combo on maps without either sentries, good soldiers, or airblast pyros
