• Where do you place YOUR sentry?

I love putting my lvl 3 ontop of the ramp leading up to the first cap point on cp_gorge. Got 20 + kills in that spot before i think. moon base is also fun to fuck around with, but less effective
(Defense) Ever since the Engie update I've taken a liking to moving my buildings. It's a possible risk, but it's better than knowing the Scout sitting in respawn is going Demoman next round and knows exactly where to slap your shit. I usually place them in all the common places because they're proven to be successful, but the Wrangler brought a few new options and the bots have actually found a few nice spots, too. But changing positions and getting creative is vital for a good Engie or else a Heavy/Medic pair will jump from pl_badwater's Red Room and destroy your Sentry beneath it without even checking if there was one in the first place. If my Sentry gets destroyed too quickly I try to fall back or switch class. Demoman and Heavy are better for defense with little to no setup time. Remember kids, hiding your Sentry around the corner only works once for clueless victims that aren't idiots. (Offense) Ideally somewhere hidden, usually just in a supporting or flanking position where it can distract the foe while I and the rest of my team help. More straight-forward with the Wrangler. I still like to use the normal Sentry for offense tho because sometimes I find a nice spot and the time and resource for upgrading it at least once. (Concrete) I'm the only Engie I've witnessed doing that, so I hope I won't tell you something you already know: On RED and on pl_badwater, last stage, I like to build a Sentry next to RED's lower spawn room, just so it can shoot, but its lower hitboxes are covered. It's good for a last-minute defense due to the short way to your respawn locker, it covers a big area and with the Wrangler you can even shoot at people coming from the Red Room. Beware of Spies tho.
Sometimes I rush and place a mini sentry in front of the enemies. Most of the time they will be bothered about destroying the sentry first, then the rest of the team. That second of distraction sometimes is vital
I always play Gunslinger Engi, and when I'm on defense I help other Engineers to build and maintain their shit. It's very efficient and good team work. Other than that, I just place my combat Sentryguns smartly, or sometimes so that I can wrangle any incoming enemies from a good distance. Also the shotgun, it covers 90% of my kills. Also dispenser positioning for offensive teammates.
I usually set up little "outposts" with one or two other engineers that are behind enemy lines and allow the team to basically mass-teleport into the enemy base. For instance, on 2fort, the top of the enemy sewer entrance.
I'm mainly and offensive engy, so I tend to place my mini sentrys around corners at key objectives. Then I just run off and fight on my own.
When I used to play Engie I'd put the sentry at a place that's relatively hard to hit (especially for demo grenades) and can survive for more than 8 seconds without me there. I just wish sentries were dangerous. These days a sentry just feels like a weak obstacle.
I love it when I help some random engineer to last an ubered Heavy with me whacking his sentry like no tomorrow. They panic a lot, but I just whack em calmly, move through their sentry, take some minigun damage, back up, whack the sentry some more. Then the other engi is like "whoa, i survived through that, and i dont even know why" :colbert:
I like to put a sentry on the corner of the courtyard's long hall in 2fort. It reaches the end of the long hall, and covers the sink room at the same time. It can be cornered, but you're right next to spawn, so that helps.
RIGHT CLICK, RIGHT CLICK, CORNER

This is where I like to put my Sentry on 2fort. It covers pretty much everything. The downside being that it takes longer to turn around and face rear targets. I differ in where I have it face, but ually always in that position. I also put a Dispenser blocking the doorway to the Intel Room. Right here is where I place my Sentry if the 2nd floor is covered. This does a good job of stopping classes that can't get into the base via Battlements or classes that seek to destroy the Sentry on the 2nd floor from below. Here, I have a Dispenser at the base of the steps opposite the Sentry to block Spies who try to come in, forcing them to take the only other way up the stairs, past my sentry where I am standing.
Gunslinger engie for life! I just drop them whenever I'm being attacked. It usually kills them, or I do while they're distracted. It's weird.. I can easily take down a heavy with a wrangled minisentry.
Gunslinger + Pistol works better than Gunslinger + Wrangler for me
You know.. I always think that the closer the sentry is to your spawnroom, the more inefficient it is. And the closer your sentry is to the enemy spawnroom, the more efficient it is! Makes sense if something does. Not necessarily a sentry right infront of enemy spawn, but kind of in the middle ground where the BLU and RED meets mostly, there you have your very ideal place for a sentry. And for that you probably need help. I mean, like this one time in ctf_Doublecross, it's my fav ctf_map, but we set up a lvl3 sentry in the middle bridge where the trucks are crashed and sand is all over, and needless to say we dominated the match right there and then me being a Gunslinger engi backing him up.
