The antartic researcher looks almost nothing like his puffer coat ingame which is zipped open the entire game. Those lines you see on the sprite in your reference picture are his hands in his pockets.

It's much less lame than any other kind of big popular game recently. It's not something that can be ruined by millions of 12 year olds in multiplayer modes and homogenization of those modes until they're just all garbage clones of one another, like minecraft.
