I like the idea of an chinese/japanese character. When it comes to the accent, more subtile-realist or stereotyped?
TF2 usually has more stereotypical accents, but to be completely honest I can't think of a really stereotypical Asian accent that won't come off as kinda racist.
Bow ties are for weddings, Black ties for burrying...
iirc the quake spy had a bow tie
TF2 usually has more stereotypical accents, but to be completely honest I can't think of a really stereotypical Asian accent that won't come off as kinda racist.
I think as long as they get the r's and l's right it should be fine.
If we do go with a chinese/japanese agent (if were still calling him that) why not base him off the 1800s spy from the catch up comic.
TF2 usually has more stereotypical accents, but to be completely honest I can't think of a really stereotypical Asian accent that won't come off as kinda racist.
[sp]Well there ain't any girls, is the game sexist?[/sp] Edit: The stereotyped asian accent could be an issue, nobody wants for anyone to feel offended. We could try a spanish/italian accent, to remind those mafia films?
If we do go with a chinese/japanese agent (if were still calling him that) why not base him off the 1800s spy from the catch up comic.
I think it'd be cooler to do our own thing. Also, that design is intended for the 1800s and would look a little out of place.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/AgentPose.jpg[/t]
So if the Agent is going to be less classy and more stealthy, should his weapons get slightly changed as well? A revolver might be a gentleman's weapon, but one thing it is not is silent. A silenced pistol might work better, as shown in the concept art. Similar thing for the butterfly knife, it might look awesome, but if I had to go on a serious stealth mission, I'd brobably pack a different blade. Besides, if we're going to make the Agent a completely different class, might as well go all the way right? Edit: Just realized that a silenced pistol might not be such a good idea, since one of the revolvers drawbacks is supposed to be its noise. But I still think the Agent should have a visually distinct loadout, to differentiate him from the Spy.
Hey, I remember this if you want to make a Spy-rigged model look hunched over.
That reminds me, there's a leftover animation the Spy has that was used way back (It's still used in the outdated 2d hud icons). It has no controls, but it's just a simple standing animation. Aside from the clipping with hands and feet, and the fact the weapon_bone bone doesn't align properly with the Tranq or Revolver, it's pretty neat. May be too little to attempt animating with, but still, food for thought.
I wasn't able to find it in HLMV though.

It's got a unique, Spytechy look to it. [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/88/Nambupistol2465.jpg[/t] The shank from TF2's concept art that was originally going to be used as a Mercenary melee could replace the butterfly knife, too. (though, seeing as the Agent's knife functions identically to the butterfly knife, might be an unneeded change)
I personally love this suggestion, would be a great way to clearly set him apart from spy without any drastic changes. And that gun has a great and unique design as well, and its reduced size works well with the somewhat more stealthy direction, perhaps especially if we give it a silencer, (though I couldn't find any example of there being one for it.)

It has that stealth look to it.
For the knife, what about using this kind of knife model? [t]http://i.imgur.com/opCnYU1.jpg[/t] From what I've seen, this type of knife is used in (almost) every assassination scenes from various old-school movies and it has some of the "stealthy" part too.
I like the concept art, but i have one suggestion, change his tie to a bow tie, to differentiate him with the spy
OneFourth and I were playing around wiht the idea that each espionage class would have customizable or interchangable ties and bowties, and if so he could have either! Another idea I've played around with is possibly color coding after class instead of team. Both ideas are illustrated here: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/GuardBlue.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/WorkerRed.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/JanitorGreen.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/ScientistYellow.jpg[/t] This is also why the Agent above is black and not blue (though keep in mind these colors aren't necessarily going to be used)

But for the janitor, why a tie? I don't think it fits the uniform really well: never seen a janitor with a tie.

Maybe that for the janitor instead of a tie?
Why not give it the ability to give the janitor suspenders or take then away? Maybe that for the janitor instead of a tie?
Suspenders on a jumpsuit :what:

The pocket tool should be quite simple, containing 1-two thing and a lil- wrench on the side. (see the "tool of the trade" engineer cosmetic from live-tf2) [editline]22nd December 2015[/editline]
Suspenders on a jumpsuit?
dont question the logic.
Suspenders on a jumpsuit?
Give the man some pants. :v: EDIT I have actually never seen a janitor with a jumpsuit.
TF2 usually has more stereotypical accents, but to be completely honest I can't think of a really stereotypical Asian accent that won't come off as kinda racist.
It is a little difficult to find 1950s footage of Asians that isn't racist propaganda. However the "Asian accent" comes from first generation immigrants being unable to pronounce certain syllables, similar to how English speakers cannot differentiate between Chinese tones. Compare this episode of "Bachelor Father" between first generation and second generation Chinese actors. @0:40 @20:22 Pat Suzuki, a famous Japanese-American singer, fooled most of the panel with a Southern accent.
Like this perhaps? [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/JanitorGreen2.jpg[/t]
Like this perhaps?
For me, the tie simply is the problem: ties represent importance, classy, order: the guy mop up trash. The everyone-got-ties plan don't feel like wanting the janitor to be in.
For me, the tie simply is the problem: ties represent importance, classy, order: the guy mop up trash. The everyone-got-ties plan don't feel like wanting the janitor to be in.
Let's make his backstory that a band of tie wearing criminals killed his family.
I don't see why he really needs a tie. If something on him needs to be randomized, why not a hat? Not sure what kind exactly, maybe one of these hats that I don't know the name of. [t]http://www.robertomanzoni.it/pics/imgBig/scottish_cap_pocket.jpg[/t]
One last try then [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39556064/concepts/Characters/JanitorGreen3.jpg[/t]
One last try then
It looks ok, it just seems odd for a janitor to have a tie. I've never seen one wearing anything loose, I assume it's so that nothing gets in the way of cleaning.
So far ive only thrown together a simple, ambiguous, spy-spin-off with some 70's suits for reference.
One last try then
Why not just add bodygroups for all three? I'm honestly loving the look of the tie, but I guess I'm not thinking realistically towards it.
