So you want to "scam"? First thing you need to know is this isn't actual scamming. Scamming is where you lie, such as promising someone money for goods for their hat, and then once you get the hat, run off with it without making the payment. Only jerks do true "scamming". 1) First step on how to identify new players with valuables is use a server scanner. Such as this one: [url]http://up-to-no-good.appspot.com/[/url].
2) To use a server scanner, enter a server where new players frequent (such as Nighteam). Once you have joined the server, open the console and type "status" and hit enter. Copy what shows up (copy the list of names/Steam IDs that start with [i]#[/i]). Paste the result into the server scanner and hit search.
[b]Note:[/b] When you search, you should choose to search for unusuals and promo items usually, considering those are the most valuable.
3) If you are lucky, you should see a player with <200 hours, and a valuable item, such as Earbuds. Take a look at their backpack to see what things they have. If they have tons of hats, chances are it is just a storage account and you shouldn't waste your time on it. If they only have a few weapons, and their valuable item is unequipped, you probably are dealing with someone who doesn't have a great idea of the value of their items.
4) Spectate them and wait until 1) they die, or 2) the round ends. When one of the two things happens, shoot them a trade request. If they don't accept, try waiting until they die again, or if the round ends. If they keep declining, ask in game chat if they could accept your request when they can. If they're nice, they will ask you to re-send it. If they aren't responding, don't get stuck on them. Move on, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. Before you move on, however, send them a friend request. They may accept it.
5) If they [b]do[/b] accept, you're in luck. Here is a mock conversation of a successful trade:

You: Cool, is there anything you want for it?

You: What is your favourite class?

Sometimes, they may say they are [b]not for sale[/b]. Not to worry, just ask if you could show them your offer. Usually they say okay, and sometimes you can entice them to trade, if you have something they really like.
Congratulations, now you know how to scam.
[b]Note:[/b] I am not one to judge, but I suggest you not lie to the new player about the value of their item. If they ask what their Earbuds are worth, don't say they aren't worth anything. Be an honourable scammer.
