So you're quitting because Valve always ruins your work?
So you're quitting because Valve always ruins your work?
He's quitting because there's no point going on, the pack thread has slowed to about 2 posts a day and he's the only one working on it. I'm just happy he didn't quit sooner.
but i just got started... :(
While it really sucks that he is quitting, it is hard to blame him at this point. On the bright-side of things, it is still possible for it to be finished as long as everyone gives the support that it needs.
You did an amazing job with this pack, and its certanly one of my favorites. I wish you good luck on your future projects and thank you for all the amazing work you put in this pack.
I'd love to get a good start in modeling, so I might actually pick up the slack in this project. I don't know how hard modeling polygons would be, but I really want to start getting into making and texturing models
my reason for leaving is the pack is just that it's time consuming and requires constant attention for something that can never be truly finished. hypothetically, even if we finished all of the hats and did everything like a total conversion mod, for as long as tf2 is being worked on there is always a high chance of another hat or another weapon in the distant future. player model and viewmodel changes... it really never ends. the pack might have worked if TF2 hadnt been updated since 2007, but that is not the case. it's too large scale to tackle as long as valve is making their own changes. because the pack was proven to not improve performance i'm not really doing anyone a service by helping, i'm simply filling a niche for a small amount of people. texturing one weapon takes hours and i have to learn the UV that was given to me, even though it might be color-coded. i simply can't be bothered and lack the motivation to texture the 20 or so models that don't have textures on them for little payoff. it sucks to see things go to waste but i'm tired of it, the pack has been looming over my head for over a year and i never feel close to finished. if anyone wants to continue it, i already gave a few posts on how i texture models, and insaneicide gave a few posts on how to make models. but i seriously doubt anyone will, considering the huge workload of trying to oldschool every new hat and weapon. on the bright side, anyone with some SFM experience could probably port the models over there and use it in movies. that's all i can say (i don't know if source files will be released by insaneicide or not)
SFM porting as it is would really just be dragging the game files into the sfm folder, but that would overlap all preexisting textures/models, so you'd have to save your files first to replace them afterwards.
Wasn't this pack used for the MGS SFM short?
Wasn't this pack used for the MGS SFM short?
nebar hard of it pls link

Shame to see you go guys... Well, I have a feeling someone is going to revive it...
Shame to see you go guys... Well, I have a feeling someone is going to revive it...
I'm trying but nobody's joining :(
I'm trying but nobody's joining :(
Well I'll continue modelling hats when I have nothing to do.
screw it, i'll help out. whenever i get time from some workshop items, i'll try to make some hats here and there. plus, i wanted to try some low poly stuff for a while now, and this will be good for that.
As I said before, I MAY help it. I do have a bit of experience in pixel art.
Wasn't this pack used for the MGS SFM short?
animator of that here. it replaced all of my existing models (despite being put into the usermods folder) which made things a little complicated, especially since i didnt want to make a whole new project for multiple scenes of the same map. had to delete everything after the project was finished, or put it into a backup folder for some other time (or never again). other than replacing all of the original models (despite being in a different location) it wasnt as broken as i thought.
-and cut! great work-
Just came to say you guys were doing great work over the last few months and were on a real roll with it, it's a real shame you guys stopped now but if neither of you fancy it then that's that. Thanks for the time and effort you put into the project

Thanks for the time and effort you put into the project
im not done yet, im just takin a bit of a break to clear my head and prepare for the last string of weapons
so after several cups of coffee,spy-related stress relief, and possibly a brain aneurism, i have made my first model in max.
may i lick it
No. Your tongue will be stuck.
No. Your tongue will be stuck. [editline]3rd June 2014[/editline] Also, why is the spy giving us the middle finger?
actually, the spy is giving the spycicle the finger, which in retrospect is how i felt about the whole process [sp]to be clear, im not giving up on max, and have learned alot especially considering i didnt use any tutorials[/sp]
why wouldn't you use any tutorials that's what they're there for
why wouldn't you use any tutorials that's what they're there for
trial by error, if that dont work, use the next logical solution, repeat steps a+b utill all possibilities are exhausted, then tutorials, by this method, i got the basics down, but it took over 5 hours to model and uv a glorified cone at least i know what to do for the next model so i dont take longer than maybe an hour, but chances are ill start using tutorials from here on out
with a tutorial that would've taken thirty minutes at least
yeah, but now the way that makes the most sense in my head is deeply engrained, its pretty much how i learned ms3d... well that and there arent many tutorials for ms3d while i was learning, there were also a few things i didnt expect to be so easy in max that were damn near impossible in ms3d, so im learning the benifiets of max over ms3d the first time im using it :D
