Retro soundpack is coming along nicely now that I've ironed out the bugs. Got most of the base weapons done with the exception of the minigun, all explosions, health pickups and victory music, etc.

I've been making 90% of the sounds myself from scratch with the exception of some that I ripped from goldeneye and edited.

I've been playing around with it in conjuncture with the oldschool pack and it really adds to the whole old school gaming feel IMO.

Can someone please benchmark this pack?

Handful of people are telling me this pack actually makes their FPS worse, which makes me really question why I am putting in hours for this.

TF2 mods do make the game run worse, it's just the way the source engine works. I'm pretty sure most people contribute to the pack and use the pack because they prefer the alternate look.

I thought one of the points if the new Steampipe system was that they wouldn't be loading files that you have skins for, which would improve how the game runs?

thats what im bettin on, so far with the beta it runs better than normal tf2 considering i figured out how to make the vpk, speaking of, i have to test that again.

Strangely, I am actually getting less average framerate. But it's nothing major.
It's about -5 fps with this pack.

I wonder why this is.

i dunno what happened, when i was running towards the beginning of this thread i was getting +15-20

now i can barely run at 12-30 whereas before i was running 30-45 there must be some sort of addition limit before the framerate starts dropping and i tend to run worse when i dont have it on, barely getting 10

I suspect the lower framerate might be from the engine constantly checking the gcf or something. I can't be sure as this is the only thing I can think of.
